The present invention relates in one aspect to a ballast water analysis system comprising fluorometer and light scattering meter. The fluorometer comprises a first light source arranged to illuminate a first ballast water sample for obtaining a first fluorescence measurement on a first ballast water sample. The light scattering meter comprises a second light source arranged to illuminate a second ballast water sample with a second light beam and first and second photodetectors arranged to receive light at respective angles relative to a direction of the second light beam. The second and third photodetectors are configured to receive scattered light resulting from interaction between light from the second light source and matter, such as viable or non-viable microorganisms and other particles, in the second ballast water sample.

The present invention relates to a method and a device for alleviating and/or preventing conditions relating to damaged joints. The device may be formed by moulding. Also the device may be formed with a hole or a slit to fit into the joint and lock the device around intra-articular components. A further aspect of invention relates to method for introducing the prosthetic device into a joint, such as a method comprising locking the device to an intro-articutar component. Also the invention relates to an instrument for inserting a prosthetic device according to the invention.

Method for the production of medical implants

The present invention relates to a method and a device for alleviating and/or preventing conditions relating to damaged joints involving articulating surfaces. In a first aspect the present invention relates to a prosthetic device for insertion into a joint cavity of a joint of a vertebrate, such as a human, said device consisting of a biocompatible material comprising at least a first polymeric component and a second polymeric component, wherein the chain length of the first polymeric component is longer than the chain length of the second polymeric component, the polymeric components in particular being polyethylene, polypropylene and/or polyvinylpyrrolidone. A further aspect of invention relates to a method for introducing the prosthetic device into a joint, such as a method comprising locking the device to an intro-articular component, thereby fixing or retaining the device in the joint cavity in a manner which is substantially non-invasive with respect to cartilage and bone natively present in the joint cavity. Also the invention relates to an instrument for inserting a prosthetic device according to the invention, comprising means for deforming the prosthetic device into a reduced volume or a slender shape and means for grasping the intra-articular component to which the device is capable of interlocking.

The present invention relates to a method of training a classification system for characterising a biological sample, a diagnostic classification system, as well as a method of characterising a condition in an animal or a human being by using parameters obtained from the sample. The invention relates to classification based on physical parameters obtained from luminescence spectroscopy on light emitted from the sample. The data obtained from a spectrofluorimetric analysis can be considered a finger-print of the sample. Each sample gives rise to a unique spectrofluorometric set of physical parameters. By analysing the fluorescence data, it is possible to classify samples into two or more classes based on the fluorescence spectra, such as classifying with respect to presence/abs of a specific disease, group of diseases or risk of later attaining a specific disease or a body condition, or concentration of a specific compound or medicine.
