A manikin unit (1) for teaching cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, including ventilation and external cardiac massage, comprises at least one manikin (66) and a chest extension structure (2). The manikin comprises a head (9) having a mouth opening, a neck (8), a chest means (3), a throat means in communication with the mouth opening, and a lung means in communication with the throat means, the chest means comprising a flexible front plate formed to imitate the human chest, a back plate and a resilient compression means compressed between said front plate and said back plate. According to the invention the chest extension structure (3) is connected to said chest means' distal end by means allowing it to pivot about a pivot axis extending in a direction transversely to the chest means between an in-use position wherein the chest extension structure extends longitudinally from the chest means and serves to stabilise the manikin, and a storage position wherein the chest extension structure is pivoted away from the in-use position in order to reduce the length of space occupied by the manikin unit.

Manikin unit

A training manikin for practising external cardiac massage, including chest expansion, comprises a partially compressible chest (22), a support plate (31) for a person to practice the cardiac massage, which plate (31) can be arranged in a position in which it extends to one side of the chest (22), and means, e.g. in the form of a bolt (29), for transferring a pull in the chest to the support plate (31).

Training manikin for practicing external cardiac massage

A training apparatus (10) for the practice of puncturing blood vessels includes a model arm and an air-tight, liquid-tight compressible liquid container (19) and a two-way pressure threshold valve for transferring liquid between the container and the model arm. The model arm includes a core (14) of a solid material, a tight-fitting cover (32) of a penetrable material and at least one penetrable tube (31) provided between the core (14) and the cover (32), one end of the tube being connected to the liquid container (19) and the other end being sealed. The liquid container (19) is integrated into the model arm and disposed in such a manner so as to allow it to be compressed by establishing a pressure on a part of the surface of the model arm.

Disposable resuscitator

A disposable resuscitator includes an elongated, elastically compressible squeeze bag having a first opening, a one-way valve for the intake of oxygen-containing gas into the bag mounted in the first opening, a second opening which is in airtight communication with a valve housing in the form of a transparent pipe having a pipe stub for the attachment of the resuscitator to a facial mask, and an outlet for exhalation air, the tubular valve housing containing a valve including a valve seat and a disc-shaped valve body of an elastomeric material and having a centrally mounted, projecting guide pin which is axially displaceable in a hole in the valve seat, a body having a central passage forming the outlet for exhalation air being provided in the free end of the transparent pipe, the central passage being surrounded by an annular bead which is located co-axially and in contact with the valve member, the pipe stub for the attachment of the resuscitator to a facial mask extending from the side of the transparent pipe and being in communication with the zone located between the valve member and the body located in the free end of the transparent pipe.

A protective device kit for use in pulmonary ventilation treatment including a film mask for positioning over a patient's mouth and nose regions and a one-way valve mounted centrally in the film mask and comprising a valve housing having a valve seat provided with inlet openings and having an internally situated valve flap which, in the closed position of the valve, covers the inlet openings of the valve seat, and one or more outlet openings provided in the side wall of the valve housing, and further including a flat box for encasing closely and protecting the film mask in its folded state.

Apparatus for respiratory training

An aspirator for removing a body liquid from a body cavity comprising a cylindrical receptacle having a top wall comprising a flap valve, and an aspirating tube, one end of said aspirating tube being connected with the upper part of the receptacle and the other end having such a shape that it can be inserted into the body cavity, said receptacle being partly surrounded by a cylindrical cap-shaped member having a top wall including a flap valve, the cap-shaped member having such a shape that an axial displacement of the cap-shaped member relative to the receptacle produces a vacuum in the space between the cap-shaped member and the receptacle. The aspirator is more compact and of a simpler construction than the corresponding prior art aspirators.

Aspirator

A manikin for practicing artificial respiration by the mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose method and comprising an inflatable lung element, a chest element and a head element having a cavity containing a replaceable bag surrounded by an elastically expandable cover having a predetermined internal volume in its state of rest, the bag having an air inlet which is airtightly connected with a replaceable mouth and nose element and the cavity in the head element being connected with the lung element through an air duct. The manikin does not malfunction in case of a leakage in the secondary air system.

Simulator for practicing tracheal intubation comprising a manikin head attached to a support and having a skull comprising a movable lower jaw, and a neck connected to the skull and support so as to allow the manikin head to be tilted forwards and backwards, the simulator having an oral cavity and a throat comprising a thin-walled funnel-shaped element having at its upper edge a convex tongue element attached to the lower jaw and having at its lower end two ducts one simulating a trachea and the other simulating a gullet.

Simulator for practicing tracheal intubation

An attachment device for use in a tracheal aspirator comprising a hand-held container with rigid walls having a secretion inlet opening with an inside diameter sufficiently large to permit passage of solid particles and an outlet opening for connection to the suction tube of a pump. The device further comprises a secretion suction tube of correspondingly large inside diameter and a length just sufficient to enable the device to be operated in front of the mouth of the patient. One end of the suction tube is received by the secretion inlet opening of the container. The inside diameters of the secretion inlet opening and suction tube are between 6 and 12 millimeters and the length of the suction tube is in the range between 200 and 300 millimeters.

An expiration valve composed of a valve housing presenting an inlet arranged to be connected to the expiratory outlet of ventilating apparatus, and an outlet, a valve seat disposed within the housing, a valve disc arranged to cooperate in a sealing manner with the valve seat, a member biasing the valve disc into its sealing position against the valve seat in the direction counter to the air flow direction between the inlet and the outlet, and a damping chamber containing a viscous fluid and arranged to cause movement of the viscous fluid within the chamber to damp vibrations of the disc during movement of the disc within the housing.

A manually operated lung-venting apparatus includes a self-expanding bladder having a bladder inlet through which treating gas is drawn into the bladder during expansion thereof and a bladder outlet through which treating gas is driven out of the bladder during compression thereof. The apparatus further comprises a valve device having a housing attached to the bladder; and inlet chamber in the housing; a valve inlet for establishing communication between the bladder and the inlet chamber; a valve outlet which is in continuous communication with the inlet chamber and which is adapted to be connected to the respiratory system of a patient. The valve device further has a movable valve member which comprises a valve stem and a resiliently flexible, soft valve flap carried thereby and which is supported in the housing and cooperating with the valve inlet to open or close the same; and a control mechanism connected to the valve stem for moving and maintaining the movable valve stem in a closed position when the pressure in the inlet chamber exceeds a predetermined value above the ambient pressure and for moving and maintaining the valve stem in an open position when the pressure in the inlet chamber is below the predetermined value. The valve flap, in the closed position of the valve stem, readily conforms to the valve seat and, if the pressure in the inlet chamber exceeds that prevailing in the bladder, the valve flap lifts off its seat independently of the position of the valve stem.

Lung-venting apparatus

A manually operated lung-venting apparatus includes a self-expanding bladder having a bladder inlet through which treating gas is drawn into the bladder during expansion thereof and a bladder outlet through which treating gas is driven out of the bladder during compression thereof. The apparatus further comprises a valve device having a housing attached to the bladder; an inlet chamber in the housing; a valve inlet for establishing communication between the bladder and the inlet chamber; a valve outlet which is in continuous communication with the inlet chamber and which is adapted to be connected to the respiratory system of a patient. The valve device further has a movable valve member supported in the housing and cooperating with the valve inlet to open or close the same; and a control mechanism connected to the movable valve member for moving and maintaining the movable valve member in its closed position when the pressure in the inlet chamber exceeds a predetermined value above the ambient pressure and for moving and maintaining the movable valve member in its open position when the pressure in the inlet chamber is below the predetermined value.

A dummy for teaching mouth-to-mouth and mouth-to-nose resuscitation, has a head shaped to generally correspond to a human head; simulated mouth and nose openings; and a trunk connected to the head by a neck. The trunk has a hollow part simulating the human thorax. The trunk defines an air-tight, self-supporting container which simulates the human torso and lungs. The container has an oblong cross-sectional configuration at least in the zone of the thorax and is connected with the mouth and nose openings by means of a conduit simulating the human windpipe. The trunk wall is resilient at least in the zone of the thorax to undergo outwardly directed elastic deformations by the pressure of insufflated air for effecting changes in the volume of the container in response to insufflation and simulate the movement of the human thorax. The volume of the container is so chosen relative to its resilient properties that the insufflation of the same air volume to be insufflated into the lungs of a human being during correctly performed mouth-to-mouth and mouth-to-nose resuscitation generates the same pressure in the container as in the human lungs. Similarly when insufflation is terminated, the insufflated air, due to the resilient properties of the trunk wall, is forced out of the container which returns to its undeformed shape, thereby simulating the expiration and movement of the human thorax. Thus, the container wall has a resistance to insufflation through either of the openings that is comparable to a corresponding resistance of human lungs and further, the container simulates the movements of a human thorax during mouth-to-mouth and mouth-to-nose resuscitation.
