In a transport system for a mould-string casting plant comprising a moulding machine () delivering a plurality of uniform mould parts () to a string of moulds on the transport system transporting the moulds from the moulding machine () to a pouring station () and further on to a solidification and cooling section (II, III, IV) and ending at a knock-out station in which the castings are taken out of the moulds (), the transport system comprises in combination&#x2014;a second section (II), in which the moulds () in the string are transported slidingly by means of movable longitudinal side rails () applying a positive lateral force on each side of the mould string () and moving in an advancing and longitudinal stepwise manner synchronised with the movement provided by the pressure plate () of the moulding machine (), and&#x2014;a third section (III), in which the transport is effected by means of a walling beam system (). In this way it is possible to provide a longer high-precision transport than possible when only using either side rail transport or walking beam transport.

Transport system for a mould-string casting plant

The present invention provides an apparatus for producing casting mould parts by compacting mould material between a first squeeze plate and a second squeeze plate forming movable end walls of a moulding chamber, which subsequent to the compacting can be opened by moving the second squeeze plate out of the way, after which the mould part can be pushed out of the moulding chamber by a further movement of the first squeeze plate in its compacting direction, the movement of the first squeeze plate being provided by a hydraulic drive unit comprising a movable cylinder member connected to the first squeeze plate and an associated stationary piston member having a piston rod extending tightly through an inner wall of the cylinder member and a piston. The movable cylinder member is guided in its linear movement by the piston and by the piston rod. By further providing supplementary means for guiding the movable cylinder member, it is possible to reduce the sag of the piston rod and cylinder member, when the cylinder member is advanced to the full extent to push out the produced mould part and improve the rigidity of the first squeeze plate against tilting movement during compacting.

Independent control of squeeze plate velocity during flaskless moulding

An apparatus for controlling the movements of the squeeze plates of a string moulding apparatus where the apparatus generally includes a moulding chamber defined between two squeeze plates. One of the squeeze plates can be pivoted to open the moulding chamber. The production cycle of the apparatus includes, apart from the charging of the chamber with mould material, several movements of the squeeze plates. A movement of one plate commences before the preceding movement of the other plate has finished. The hydraulic system of the apparatus comprises two pumps, one pump for each actuator associated to one of the squeeze plates.

The present invention relates to a method of controlling the movements of the squeeze plates of a string moulding apparatus, and to an apparatus for carrying out the method. Such an apparatus generally comprises a moulding chamber defined between two squeeze plates. One of the squeeze plates can be pivoted to open the moulding chamber. The production cycle of an apparatus of said kind comprises apart from the charging of the chamber with mould material several movements of the squeeze plates. A movement of one plate commences before the preceding movement of the other plate has finished. The hydraulic system of the apparatus comprises two pumps, one pump for each actuator associated to one of the squeeze plates.

Method of controlling the movements of the squeeze plates of a string moulding apparatus and string moulding apparatus

When pouring casting cavities in casting moulds having after-feeding reservoirs, tubular lances are introduced, firstly with their point at a short distance from the after-feeding reservoir, after which the lances are pressurized from a pressure chamber and by means of a member with an inclined surface pressed downwardly through the last short distance to the after-feeding reservoir so as to pressurize the latter. With this arrangement it is possible to pressurize the after-feeding reservoirs without the need of equipping the casting moulds with complicated extra equipment and without risk of the molten metal being pressurized unnecessarily.

In a mold-pressing machine with liquid-mist injection, using atomizing nozzles (9) with a vortex chamber (27) delivering atomized liquid mixed with air through outlet apertures (26), compressed air constantly being supplied to the atomizing-air nozzle (29), while the liquid nozzle (28) receives liquid under pressure through a liquid conduit (19,25), a liquid duct (31) and a slave valve (32,33) controlled by the liquid pressure solely in those periods, during which the liquid mist is desired to be injected, the new feature is that the liquid conduit (19,25) comprises a fast-acting air-escape valve (13), possibly of the same kind as those being used with pneumatic cylinders, causing any air having penetrated into the liquid duct (31) during the rest intervals because of a leak in the slave valve (32,33) to flow to an escape conduit (21). With this arrangement, the formation of air pockets in the liquid conduit is prevented: such air pockets would otherwise reduce the quantity of the liquid being supplied to the liquid nozzle (28) during each succeeding cycle.

In a system comprising a gripper (9) and a number of gripping objects (7), and with fluid-communication couplings for establishing temporary fluid communication between the gripper (9) and the gripping object (7) being gripped, the novel feature consists in that the coupling comprise at least one tubular member (30) with at least one open end being adapted to be pressed against and to make fluid-tight contact with a plane surface (37) on the gripping object (7) having fluid-transfer openings (39) with somewhat smaller diameter than the open ends of the tubular member (30). With this arrangement, the risks of damage and other problems associated with previous coupling arrangements based on the male-female principle are avoided.

The invention concerns the technical problem of providing a simple and reliable apparatus for separating castings from moulds of sand or similar material at the end of a guiding track, on which the moulds with the enclosed castings are advanced step by step towards a knocking-out station. With a view hereto the apparatus comprises a number of possibly interchangeable claws equipped with vibrators which, when moved into the row of moulds, can penetrate the mould sand and be caused to enclose and pinch the outermost casting, whereafter the claws are shifted back to the initial position in which the pair of tongs formed by the claws can open in order to deliver the casting for further treatment. The claws can be specially formed so as to retain possible core sand in the castings.

Apparatus for separating castings from moulds of sand or similar material

A travelling grate conveyor for advancing a mould consisting of juxtaposed identical mould parts is associated with an endless mould supporting belt or conveyor formed by a plurality of closely spaced and interconnected rod members extending transversely of the longitudinal direction of the conveyor.
