In order to provide the possibility of simplifying the varieties with relation to the type of wiper blades, the invention is directed toward developing a cost-effective and easy to handle connection piece for connecting a link cap at its wiper rod with aligning borings in its wiper rod comprising parallel side walls with the carrier shaft of a wiper blade, which comprises in a fastening section, which is open at its top, a fastening bolt between its parallel side cheeks. The connection piece comprises an upper connection part for a fixed connection with the link cap of the wiper arm and the bottom part for connecting the carrier shaft of the wiper blade with the fastening section of the carrier shaft in a locking and oscillating manner.

A windshield wiper system includes two windshield wipers of which each is mounted on a separate wiper shaft and may be driven to and fro by a separate motor between an inner reversing position and an outer reversing position, which windshield wipers are at least partially superposed in their inner reversing position and rotate in opposite directions through one wiping cycle. The two windshield wipers are moved without collision even though they wipe an overlapping area. The first windshield wiper is driven by its associated motor with a greater angular velocity of the output shaft than the second windshield wiper is driven by its motor. In addition the first windshield wiper is stopped for a predetermined time in its inner reversing position between two wiping cycles.

A windshield wiper assembly includes a helical compression spring arranged laterally staggered relative to the wiper shaft in such a way that the center line of the helical compression spring runs alongside the wiper shaft. This permits the wiper arm to be made very compact and low, so that it can be used in motor vehicle windshield wiper installations having a concealed parking position.
