There is provided a method in a network element of a radio communication network, the method comprising: grouping, by the network element, a plurality of discovery patterns into at least two groups, wherein each discovery pattern comprises one or more discovery slots on radio resources for detecting discovery signals by a network node; associating at least one of the groups with a first spatial parameter and at least one other group with a second spatial parameter; and transmitting configuration information enabling a network node to utilize a discovery pattern belonging to a group associated with a spatial parameter that corresponds to spatial information of the network node.

Flexible resource usage between scheduling-based and contention-based resource access for wireless networks

A processing platform in illustrative embodiments comprises one or more processing devices each including at least one processor coupled to a memory. The processing platform is configured to extract channel features of a wireless channel of a wireless system from channel state information characterizing a radio geometry of the wireless channel, to generate a forward charting function that maps the extracted channel features to a channel chart characterizing a representational spatial geometry of the wireless channel, and to utilize the channel chart to estimate at least one position-related characteristic of one or more wireless devices in an actual spatial geometry of the wireless channel. Generating the forward charting function illustratively comprises performing an unsupervised learning process to learn the forward charting function from the extracted channel features. The channel chart is illustratively configured to preserve local geometry of multiple spatial locations associated with the extracted features in the actual spatial geometry of the wireless channel.

Disclosed is a base station including at least one baseband processing unit, a front-haul network and at least one remote radio unit. The base station further includes an adaptation unit configured to control transmission data packets between the baseband processing unit and at least one remote radio unit. The adaptation unit includes a buffer module and a communication module that is configured to determine if the buffer module includes at least one data packet to be transmitted at a scheduled instant of time, and in response to a detection that the at least one data packet is missing the communication module inserts padding data to the buffer module. Resources are allocated on a shared downlink control channel by an allocation table that is partitioned into a first, fixed length partition and into at least one second, variable length partition. The fixed length and the modulation and coding scheme MCS of the first partition is known a priori. The second variable length and the MCS of the second partition may be given in the first partition. Robustness may be varied between different second partitions of the same allocation table, or even within a single second partition to account for users at different proximity to the network node giving the allocations. Users may be identified in the first partition (e.g., a fixed number of users), and/or in the second partition (either additional allocated users or all users being allocated if the first partition does not identify users). Reduced complexity frequency domain equalization of multiple input multiple output channels

A first user equipment UE operating in a first/strong transmission mode determines that a second UE is operating in a second/weak mode and is allocated a same radio resource as the first UE. The first UE determines a transport format for transmissions to the second UE and uses that to decode and cancel a transmission received on the radio resource which is directed to the second UE, mitigating interference with a further transmission directed to the first UE. Various examples are given of specific resource allocation signaling used to determine that the second UE is operating in the second mode and is allocated the same radio resource, such as implicitly by a specific downlink control indication format or an explicit indication in a resource allocation directed to the first UE. The first UE can determine the transport format of the second UE from network signaling.
