A system and corresponding method is disclosed for monitoring and conducting large-scale performance verification of a city's lighting infrastructure. In particular, the current invention combines measurements of lighting performance measurements along city roadways with regulatory requirements for the roadways. In various embodiments, the current invention then presents a three-dimensional visualization of the adequacy of existing roadway lighting with respect to these regulatory requirements.

A system and method for compressive sensing using edge nodes of a distributed computing network. The method includes collecting a raw data signal continuously by a sensor of the edge node. A signal energy indicator is dynamically updated that quantifies an energy distortion in the raw data signal. One or more compression characteristics are determined as a function of the signal energy indicator as the signal energy indicator is updated. The raw data signal is subsampled in accordance with current values of the one or more compression characteristics to create a compressed data signal. An output is transmitted that includes the compressed data signal to a centralized node.

Compressive sensing systems and methods using edge nodes of distributed computing networks

A system and method for compressing sensor data at an edge node of a distributed computing network. The method includes training the edge node to with a plurality of known signal templates. Each known signal template corresponding to a corresponding one of a plurality of events observable by the sensor. A raw data signal is collected by a sensor of the edge node. The raw data signal is classified to one of the known signal templates based on a degree of similarity between the raw data signal and the known signal template. A compression scheme is selected based on the classification of the raw data signal. The raw data signal is compressed in accordance with the compression scheme.

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatus for employing a network () of smart luminaires () to perform tasks typically reserved for remote servers. The network of smart luminaires can include lighting elements for illuminating an area, as well as a computer system for processing and transmitting data. Various computational tasks can be parsed and delegated to certain smart luminaires in the network () in order to optimize the use of each smart luminaire in the network. Computational tasks can originate at the smart luminaires or be delegated to the smart luminaires by another device. Additionally, data that is processed by the smart luminaires can be transmitted to other devices, thereby allowing other devices to leverage the computing power of a nearby network of smart luminaires.

In various embodiments, the allocating may be based at least in part on the predicted usage.

Systems and methods for improved optical wireless communications based on mobility patterns

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for controlling lights () in an area of a city () based on demographic data and/or mobility pattern data (). Using the demographic data and/or the mobility pattern data, the lights can be arranged to attract people () to the area () where the lights are located. The mobility pattern data can be used to identify when people are typically moving towards the area, in order that the lights can be prepared to attract people in advance of their arrival. Furthermore, an output of the lights can be measured to measure certain characteristics about the lights so that the lights can be adjusted to better appeal to the demographic of people in the area.
