A vehicle heating system having a first viscous clutch and a pump and viscous clutch mechanism. The first viscous clutch has a first clutch input member. The pump and viscous clutch mechanism has a pump and a second viscous clutch. The pump includes a pump input member, while the second viscous clutch includes a second clutch input member. One of the pump input member and the second clutch input member is drivingly coupled to a portion of the first viscous clutch.

An air filter system with an air filter element having an inflow and an outflow face and comprising alternating flat and pleated layers, which are configured to form channels. The channels are alternately sealed in inflow and outflow direction, such that the medium to be filtered must pass through one of the layers as it flows from the inflow face through the filter to the outflow face. An adsorber element made of an activated carbon coated honeycomb structure is disposed adjacent the air filter element.

Air filter system

A system for supplying supplemental heat to a vehicle, particularly a vehicle with a diesel engine, A driven viscous plate with different viscous clutch faces on either side is provided between the engine and the coolant pump. One side clutches to the engine structure (ground) to generate heat, and the other side clutches to the coolant pump to vary the pump drive. The two sides are controlled by a valve operated by signals from the engine computer. The valve varies the supply of viscous fluid from a common reservoir independently to both sides of the driven viscous plate. The signal from the engine control unit is based on the instantaneous desired supplemental heat and coolant flow. In another embodiment, two separate viscous clutches are utilized and positioned on opposite sides of the coolant pump.

The compressor () is in fluid communication with the intake manifold (). The turbine () is in fluid communication with the exhaust manifold (). The turbine () and the compressor () are moveably coupled and move in conjunction with one another. The gaseous fluid coolers () are in fluid communication with the compressor (), turbine (), or combination thereof. The bypass () is in fluid communication with an output of the turbine () and an input of the compressor () for selective bypassing of the gaseous fluid cooler ().

Engine air management system

The present invention relates to a compressor-cooler module, having a housing, a compressor contained in the housing, and an air cooler disposed within the housing and positioned in the flow path of the compressor. The present invention also includes an intake in fluid communication with the housing, a cooler bypass valve operably associated with the air cooler and the compressor, and a low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation passage operably associated with the cooler bypass valve, and the cooler bypass valve selectively directs exhaust gas to bypass the air cooler.

Integration of an exhaust air cooler into a turbocharger

The present invention is an exhaust gas recirculation system for a motor vehicle, having a turbocharger unit () which has a turbine () and a compressor (), the compressor () having a compressor wheel () which rotates on an axis (). There is also a dispersion apparatus () operably associated with a condensation separation apparatus (). The condensation separation apparatus () separates moisture from exhaust gas flowing from the turbine (), and the dispersion apparatus () reintroduces the moisture into the compressor () in proximity to the compressor wheel axis (), preventing erosion of the compressor wheel ().

Re-introduction unit for low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation condensate at or before compressor

An engine assembly () comprising an engine, a plurality of coolers, a plurality of bypasses, and at least one actuator (). The engine has an exhaust manifold and an intake manifold. The gaseous fluid exiting the exhaust manifold is recirculated to the intake manifold. The exhaust gas passes through either an air cooler or a bypass. At least one actuator is operably connected to the plurality of bypasses. The bypasses have a valve () which is actuated to control the flow of the gaseous fluid through the bypass as both the bypass and the cooler. Therefore, when a single actuator is used to control the valves in both bypasses, the valves in the bypasses have the same relationship with the inlets so that a single actuator movement will control both valves in the same manner.

Integrated charge air and EGR valve

An adsorption element for adsorbing gases and vapors from the gaseous atmosphere in the intake tract of an internal combustion engine. The adsorption element is disposed within a wall of a flow cross section carrying the intake air, has a planar adsorption medium along which the intake air flows, and is pleated to create folds in longitudinal direction of the intake stream.

A method for monitoring and diagnosing an air charger system for use in an engine assembly having pre-existing sensors, having the steps of providing an air charger having a turbine and a compressor operatively coupled to one another. Providing a control unit for monitoring a plurality of operating conditions of the engine assembly. The control unit calculates an expected value of a selected operating condition based upon at least another of the plurality of operating conditions. Comparing the expected value and at least another of the plurality of operating conditions. Diagnosing a fault condition, if present, based upon the expected value and said at least another of said plurality of operating conditions being outside a predetermined tolerance.

Air charger system diagnostic

A valve assembly for use in an air management assembly having an engine, an exhaust side, and an intake side, where the valve assembly provides a housing, a plurality of openings in the housing, a valve in the housing, and an actuator operably connected to the valve. The housing is in fluid communication with the exhaust side and the intake side. The plurality of openings in the housing form at least one inlet and at least one outlet in the housing. The valve moves with respect to the plurality of openings.
