A method for producing ultra-thin glass sheets is provided that results in glass sheets with high edge strength. The method includes: hot forming a continuous glass ribbon with a glass thickness from molten glass; annealing the glass ribbon with an annealing rate chosen based on the glass thickness; producing a laser beam focus area that is longer than the glass thickness; introducing filamentary defects into the glass ribbon using the laser beam so that the filamentary defects extend from one face to the opposite face and are spaced apart from one another along the breaking lines to produce transverse breaking lines and longitudinal breaking lines with margins each comprising a thickened bead; separating the beads along the longitudinal breaking lines and separating glass sheets by severing along the transverse breaking lines.

Method for producing glass sheets and glass sheets produced by such method and use thereof

An additive for electrochemical energy storages is disclosed, wherein the additive contains at least one silicon- and alkaline earth metal-containing compound V1 which in contact with a fluorine-containing compound V2 in the energy storage forms at least one compound V3 selected from the group consisting of silicon- and fluorine-containing, lithium-free compounds V3a, alkaline earth metal- and fluorine-containing, lithium-free compounds V3b, silicon-, alkaline earth metal- and fluorine-containing, lithium-free compounds V3c and combinations thereof. An apparatus and a method for producing glass products from a glass melt, avoiding bubble formation, are disclosed, wherein the apparatus includes a crucible and an internally component for processing the glass melt, and wherein, for heating the glass melt, the apparatus comprises an AC generator which energizes the crucible or stirring crucible via electrical connection elements. The component or stirring system is connected via a current-limiting choke having a variable impedance with the power supply elements. The impedance of the current-limiting choke is adjusted so that a AC density existing in the glass melt lies between a lower limit value and an upper limit value. By means of a choke and by adjusting the impedance it can be achieved that the AC load of the system can be minimized and that simultaneously the water decomposition reaction at the precious metal surfaces can positively be influenced.

Apparatus and method for producing glass products from a glass melt while avoiding bubble formation

A crystallizing glass solder for high-temperature applications, which is free of PbO and contains, in % by weight on an oxide basis: 45% to 60% of BaO; 25% to 40% of SiO; 5% to 15% of BO; 0 to &#x3c;2% of AlO; 2 to 7.0, preferably 4.4 to 7.0%, of MgO; and at least one alkaline earth metal oxide from the group consisting of MgO, CaO and SrO, wherein CaO is 0% to 5% and the sum of the alkaline earth metal oxides MgO, CaO and SrO is 2% to 15%. Preferred embodiments of the glass solder contain from 3 to 15 wt. % of YOand have low porosity and high stability with respect to a moist fuel gas environment.

Crystallizing glass solders and uses thereof

A crystallizing glass solder for high-temperature applications, containing, in % by weight on an oxide basis: 45% to 60% of BaO, 25% to 40% of SiO, 5% to 15% of BO, 0 to &#x3c;2% of AlO, and at least one alkaline earth metal oxide from the group consisting of MgO, CaO and SrO, wherein CaO is 0% to 5% and the sum of the alkaline earth metal oxides MgO, CaO and SrO is 0% to 20%, preferably 2% to 15%. The glass solder is preferably free from TeOand PbO. Preferred embodiments of the glass solder contain from 3 to 15 wt. % of YOand have low porosity and high stability with respect to a moist fuel gas environment.

Crystallizing glass solder and use thereof

The transparent glass ceramic with low thermal expansion is produced from a glass that is fined with a combination of environmentally friendly fining agents, specifically a combination of SnOwith at least one of SbO, SO, Brand Cl. The glass is free of arsenic and is preferably made from a mixture of SiO, AlO, LiO, TiO, ZrOand ZnO. A mirror support for astronomy and a prism for LCD lithography are advantageously made from this glass ceramic.

The float glass apparatus has a glass melt producing unit including a melting tank and a refining tank for the glass melt, a float tank including a metallic basin and metal bath contained in the basin, conducting devices for conducting the glass melt from the glass melt producing unit to the metal bath and auxiliary devices as needed. In order to minimize bubble defects and extend service life of apparatus parts made from platinum or a platinum alloy, the apparatus includes a device for minimizing direct current flowing between the glass melt producing unit and the float tank, which includes an auxiliary electrode connected with ground and located in the glass melt producing unit in electrical contact with the glass melt and a direct electrical connection between the metallic basin of the float tank and ground.

Device for electrically grounding a float glass production apparatus

The process according to the invention reduces the effort required to shape a glass piece. In this process a liquid glass piece is provided on a structured supporting surface of an electrically conducting base. A voltage is applied across the liquid glass piece by connecting a voltage source between a contact position on the liquid glass piece and the electrically conducting base. The apparatus for performing the process has an electrically conducting base on which the liquid glass piece is supported and a device for applying a voltage between a contact position on the liquid glass piece and the electrically conducting base.
