A method of videoconferencing comprises displaying an image of a remote user on a display and capturing an image of a local user at a user position in front of the display. The at least one camera is located at a camera position behind the display. The method comprises modifying an image to be displayed based on the camera position of the at least one camera with respect to the display and based on the user position of the local user with respect to the display.

An embodiment of the invention provides a touch sensing apparatus, comprising: a light transmissive element () that defines a touch surface; a set of emitters () arranged around the periphery of the touch surface to emit beams of light into the light transmissive element, wherein a first portion of the beams () of light propagate inside the light transmissive element while illuminating the touch surface such that an object touching the touch surface causes an attenuation of the propagating light, and wherein a second portion of the beams () of light pass out of the light transmissive element and are reflected to travel above the touch surface, a set of light detectors () arranged around the periphery of the touch surface to receive light from the set of emitters from the transmissive element and from above the touch surface, wherein each light detector is arranged to receive light from more than one emitter.

Optical touch system comprising means for projecting and detecting light beams above and inside a transmissive panel

A touch sensing apparatus includes a group of emitters arranged to emit light to illuminate at least part of the touch surface, a light detector arranged to receive light from the group of emitters, and a processing element. Each emitter is controlled to transmit a code by way of the emitted light such that the code identifies the respective emitter. The codes may at least partly be transmitted concurrently. The codes may be selected such that a value of an autocorrelation of each code is significantly higher than a value of a cross-correlation between any two codes of different emitters. The processing element processes an output signal from the light detector to separate the light received from the individual emitters based on the transmitted codes, and to determine the position of the object/objects based on the light received from the individual emitters.

Touch sensing apparatus and method of operating the same

A touch-sensitive apparatus operates by light frustration (FTIR) and comprises a light transmissive panel () that defines a front surface () and a rear surface (), light emitters optically connected to the panel () so as to generate light that propagates by total internal reflection inside the panel, and light detectors () optically connected to the panel () so as to define a grid of propagation paths inside the panel () between pairs of light emitters and light detectors (). Each light detector () is optically connected to the panel () via an angular filter (). The filter () is applied to an outcoupling region on at least one of the front and rear surfaces () and is configured to transmit light only within a confined range of angles with respect to the normal of the outcoupling region. The confined range extends from a lower angle limit &#x3b8;to an upper angle limit &#x3b8;. The lower angle limit &#x3b8;is equal to or larger than a critical angle &#x3b8;, which is given by &#x3b8;=arcsin(1/n), with nbeing the refractive index of the light transmissive panel () at the outcoupling region.

TIR-based optical touch systems of projection-type

A touch-sensitive apparatus includes a light-transmissive panel having a front surface, an opposite rear surface, and a side edge connecting the front and rear surfaces, and a light-transmissive sheet laminated over the front surface of the light-transmissive panel. The light-transmissive sheet has a portion extending beyond the side edge of the light-transmissive panel to cover a light emitter and detector. The touch-sensitive apparatus further includes a shielding element on a lower surface of the light-transmissive sheet, the shielding element covering at least said light emitter and detector, and the shielding element blocking light having a wavelength range in which the light emitter outputs light. The lower surface of the light-transmissive sheet is in optical contact with the front surface of the light-transmissive panel.

Edge-coupled touch-sensitive apparatus

A touch-sensitive apparatus operates by light frustration (FTIR) and comprises a light transmissive panel that defines a front surface and a rear surface, a light emitter optically connected to the panel so as to generate light that propagates by total internal reflection inside the panel, and a light detector optically connected to the panel to receive propagating light from the emitter. The emitter is a VCSEL array including a number of VCSELs driven to collectively form one light emitter, and a light coupling mechanism connecting the emitter to the panel is configured to give light from a plurality of the VCSELs in the VCSEL array substantially the same spread in the panel.

Light coupling in TIR-based optical touch systems

A touch-sensitive apparatus operates by light frustration (FTIR) and comprises a light transmissive panel that defines a front surface and a rear surface, light emitters optically connected to the panel so as to generate light that propagates by total internal reflection inside the panel, and light detectors optically connected to the panel so as to define a grid of propagation paths inside the panel between pairs of light emitters and light detectors. Each of said light emitters is a VCSEL array, each said VCSEL array including a plurality of VCSELs driven in parallel to collectively form one light emitter. Preferably, each light detector is optically connected to the panel via an angular filter, tailored to pass light to the detector in an angular range in which the emitters operate.

A device obtains a signal representative of objects on a touch surface of a multi-touch sensing apparatus and executes a method for extracting touch data from the signal. The method operates in a sequence of detection frames. Each detection frame comprises the steps of: obtaining the signal; processing the signal for identifying touches; determining a set of identified touches and touch data for the set of identified touches; and outputting the touch data. At least one of the steps of processing and determining includes a prioritization that actively favors certain touches to be identified and included in the set of identified touches, respectively.

Data processing in relation to a multi-touch sensing apparatus

A touch-sensitive apparatus operates by light frustration and comprises a light transmissive panel with a front surface and a rear surface. Light emitters and light detectors optically face the rear surface along a perimeter of a touch-sensitive region on the panel. At least one non-imaging, diffusively transmitting optical element is arranged on the rear surface along the perimeter of the touch-sensitive region. The light emitters are arranged to emit a respective beam of light onto the non-imaging optical element so as to generate, by diffuse transmission, propagating light that propagates by total internal reflection inside the panel across the touch-sensitive region, and the light detectors are arranged to receive detection light generated, by diffuse transmission, as the propagating light impinges on the non-imaging optical element, so as to define a grid of propagation paths across the touch-sensitive region between pairs of light emitters and light detectors.

Optical coupling in touch-sensing systems using diffusively transmitting element

A touch-sensitive apparatus operates by light frustration (FTIR) and comprises a light transmissive panel () with a front surface and a rear surface. Light emitters () and light detectors () optically face the rear surface along a perimeter of a touch-sensitive region () on the panel (). At least one diffusively reflecting element () is arranged on the front surface () along the perimeter of the touch-sensitive region (). The light emitters () are arranged to emit a respective beam of light onto the diffusively reflecting element (), so as to generate propagating light that propagates by total internal reflection inside the panel () across the touch-sensitive region (), and the light detectors () are arranged to receive detection light generated as the propagating light impinges on the diffusively reflecting element (), so as to define a grid of propagation paths (D) across the touch-sensitive region () between pairs of light emitters () and light detectors ().

Optical coupling of light into touch-sensing systems

A touch-sensing display panel, comprising an LCD unit including a backlight and a plurality of image-forming pixel elements arranged in a central region. A planar light guide with a first refractive index has a front surface forming a touch-sensing region and an opposite rear surface facing the LCD unit. A plurality of light emitters are emulated by passing light from the backlight through pixel elements of first selected portions of a peripheral region of the LCD unit into the light guide for propagation therein through total internal reflection, and a plurality of light detectors are connected to receive light from the light guide.

Touch-sensing LCD panel

A touch-sensitive aparatus operates by light frustration (FTIR) and comprises a light transmissive panel () with a front surface () and a rear surface (). Light emitters () are optically coupled to the panel () at entry ports along a periphery region of the panel (), and light detectors () are optically coupled to the panel () at exit ports along the periphery region for detecting light transmitted inside the panel (). At least one optical sheet () is provided on the rear surface () in the periphery region. Optical coupling in touch-sensing systems

A device obtains a signal representative of objects on a touch surface of a multi-touch sensing apparatus and executes a method for extracting touch data from the signal. The method operates in a sequence of detection frames. Each detection frame comprises the steps of: obtaining () the signal; processing () the signal for identifying touches; determining () a set of identified touches and touch data for the set of identified touches; and outputting () the touch data. At least one of the steps of processing () and determining () includes a prioritization that actively favors certain touches to be identified and included in the set of identified touches, respectively. Temporal prioritization favors a touch that corresponds to a previous touch, which is identified in one or more preceding detection frames. Spatial prioritization favors a touch that is located within at least one predefined subarea on the touch surface. The prioritization enables the touch data to be generated in way that is predictable, consistent and in accordance with user expectations within a general or specific context.
