A method of continuously producing a polyol includes: (i) feeding a solid catalyst into a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR); (ii) contacting a reaction mixture comprising one or more epoxides and carbon dioxide with the solid catalyst and a chain transfer agent comprising a plurality of sites capable of initiating copolymerization of epoxides and carbon dioxide in the CSTR; (iii) allowing polymerization reaction to proceed until a desired molecular weight polyol has formed; and (iv) terminating the polymerization reaction.

Continuous manufacturing of polyol

A method for making a metal carbide based catalyst for crude oil cracking includes mixing a clay with a phosphorous based stabilizer material to obtain a liquid slurry; adding an aluminosilicate zeolite and an ultrastable Y zeolite to the liquid slurry; adding AlCl(OH)to the liquid slurry; adding metal carbide particles, having a given diameter, to the liquid slurry to obtain a mixture; and spray drying the mixture to obtain the metal carbide based catalyst. The metal carbide particles are coated with the aluminosilicate zeolite and the ultrastable Y zeolite.

Metal carbide based catalyst and method of making

A hydrocarbon feed stream may be processed by a method that may include catalytically cracking a hydrocarbon feed stream in a counter-current reactor to produce a first effluent stream, and processing a portion or all of the first effluent stream by at least one or more separations. The at least one or more separations may form at least a second effluent stream including at least 95 wt. % C-Chydrocarbons, and a third effluent stream including at least 95 wt. % of ethane, propane, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the method may further include catalytically cracking a portion or all of the second effluent stream in a second reactor to form a second reactor effluent stream, combining a portion of all of the second reactor effluent stream with the first effluent stream, steam cracking a portion or all of the third effluent stream to form a steam cracked effluent stream, and combining a portion or all of the steam cracked effluent stream with the first effluent. In other embodiments, the method may further include passing a portion or all of the second effluent stream to the counter-current reactor, steam cracking a portion or all of the third effluent stream to form a steam cracked effluent stream, and combining a portion or all of the steam cracked effluent stream with the first effluent stream.

Methods for processing hydrocarbon feed streams

Light olefins may be produced from hydrocarbons by a method including passing a hydrocarbon feed stream into one or more feed inlets of a reactor, using catalyst formulations or mixtures. Catalyst formulations may include multi-zeolite composite particles, or a mixture that is a physically mixed combination of separate particles of at least first composite particles of a first type of zeolite and second composite particles of a second type of zeolite. The reactor may include an upper reactor portion defining an upper reaction zone and a lower reactor portion defining a lower reaction zone. The catalyst may move in a generally downward direction through the upper reactor portion and the lower reactor portion, and the hydrocarbon feed stream may move in a generally upward direction through the lower reactor portion and upper reactor portion such that the hydrocarbon feed stream and the catalyst move with a counter-current orientation.

Methods for processing hydrocarbons to produce light olefins using catalyst formulations or mixtures

A multi-zoned fluidized bed reactor system may include a multi-zoned fluidized bed reactor and at least one catalyst regeneration loop. The multi-zoned fluidized bed reactor comprising a housing, a fluid bed distributor plate positioned at the bottom of the housing, a fluidized catalyst bed disposed vertically above the fluid bed distributor plate and a condensation zone disposed vertically above the fluidized catalyst bed. The at least one catalyst regeneration loop may be fluidly coupled to the stripping zone and a reaction zone. The at least one catalyst regeneration loop may be operable to withdraw a portion of spent catalyst from the stripping zone, regenerate the portion of spent catalyst to produce regenerated catalyst, and return the regenerated catalyst to the reaction zone. A method of regenerating catalyst in a multi-zoned fluidized bed reactor may include passing a portion of spent catalyst from a stripping zone to a catalyst regeneration loop.

Integrated loop systems for catalyst regeneration in multi-zone fluidized bed reactors and methods of using the same

Embodiments of catalyst systems and methods of synthesizing catalyst systems are provided. The catalyst system may include a core comprising a zeolite; and a shell comprising a microporous fibrous silica. The shell may be in direct contact with at least a majority of an outer surface of the core. The catalyst system may have a Si/Al molar ratio greater than 5. At least a portion of the shell may have a thickness of from 50 nanometers (nm) to 600 nm.

Zoned fluidization process for catalytic conversion of hydrocarbon feedstocks to petrochemicals

An integrated method for mesophase pitch and petrochemicals production. The method including supplying crude oil to a reactor vessel; heating the crude oil in the reactor vessel to a predetermined temperature for a predetermined amount of time; reducing asphaltene content in the crude oil by allowing polymerization reactions to occur in the reactor vessel at an elevated pressure in the absence of oxygen; producing a three-phase upgraded hydrocarbon product comprising gas, liquid, and solid hydrocarbon components, where the liquid hydrocarbon component comprises deasphalted oil and the solid hydrocarbon component comprises mesophase pitch; separating the gas, liquid, and solid hydrocarbon components; directly utilizing the liquid hydrocarbon component for petrochemicals production; and directly utilizing the solid hydrocarbon component for carbon artifact production.

Integrated process for mesophase pitch and petrochemical production

A system and method for producing 1-butene and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), including feeding a catalyst, an antifouling co-catalyst, and ethylene to a reactor, and dimerizing ethylene into 1-butene and polymerizing a relatively small portion of the ethylene into UHMWPE. A product slurry including 1-butene and UHMWPE is discharged from reactor and UHMWPE is removed from the product slurry as a coproduct of the product 1-butene. The coproduct UHMWPE may be a byproduct that is a relatively small amount of the product slurry. The quantity of UHMWPE produced may be small in comparison to the quantity of 1-butene produced.

Production of 1-butene and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene

Methods of chemical looping include introducing a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream into a first reaction zone. The first reaction zone includes a moving catalyst bed reactor. The moving catalyst bed reactor includes a heterogeneous catalyst, and the heterogeneous catalyst includes a heat-generating metal oxide component. The method further includes cracking the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream in the presence of the heterogeneous catalyst of the moving catalyst bed reactor, reducing the metal oxide heat-generating component of the heterogeneous catalyst with hydrogen from a product stream to generate heat, and utilizing the heat to drive additional cracking of the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. A chemical looping system includes at least one reduction reactor, which includes a moving catalyst bed reactor and a heterogeneous catalyst, and at least one oxidation reactor fluidly coupled to the reduction reactor.

Chemical looping processes for catalytic hydrocarbon cracking

A method of using a heat generating catalyst in a hydrocarbon cracking process. The method includes providing a catalyst bed reactor which includes a catalyst bed of the heat generating catalyst disposed in the catalyst bed reactor. The heat generating catalyst includes at least one mordenite framework-inverted (MFI) zeolite catalyst having a Si/Al molar ratio of 15 or greater, and at least one metal oxide dispersed within a microstructure of the MFI zeolite catalyst. The method additionally includes introducing a hydrocarbon feed to the catalyst bed reactor and cracking the hydrocarbon feed to produce a cracking product. Additionally, an associated method of making the heat generating catalyst for hydrocarbon cracking is provided.

Heat generating catalyst for hydrocarbons cracking

A method of making a heat generating catalyst for hydrocarbon cracking. The method includes providing at least one mordenite framework-inverted (MFI) zeolite having a Si/Al molar ratio of 15 or greater and providing at least one metal oxide precursor. Further, the at least one metal oxide precursor is dispersed within a microstructure of the MFI zeolite catalyst. The method additionally includes calcining the heat generating material with the at least one metal oxide precursor dispersed within the microstructure of the MFI zeolite catalyst to form at least one metal oxide in situ. The heat generating catalyst includes at least one MFI zeolite and at least one metal oxide in a ratio between 50:50 and 95:5. Additionally, an associated method of using the heat generating catalyst in a hydrocarbon cracking process is provided.
