The present invention provides a protection switching method of a node having communication failure in a ring, in a communication network. In one embodiment, this is accomplished by checking for loss of signal (LOS) at the non-ERPS device or at least one of the node in a communication channel, checking periodically for Continuity Check Message (CCM) at both the node, wherein the CCMs are periodically transmitted from both the node through at least one non-ERPS device, appropriately setting a Remote Destination Indication (RDI) bit in the Continuity Check Message (CCM) generated from at least one node and transmits the same via the non-ERPS device or through the non-ERPS device or through a disjoint communication channel, and blocking port of the node towards the non-ERPS device upon receipt of the fault notification and transmitting signal fail notification message on both the ports in the ring.

Method and system for ring protection switching

The present invention provides a method and system for preventing MAC address learning in Provider Backbone Bridge Network (PBBN). In one embodiment, this is accomplished by receiving data frames from at least one operator/client at the first PBB network which has to be communicating to the second PBB network, adding forward path learning information from the received data frames in the first PBB network and translating backbone MAC source address of the received data frame at the first PBB network by replacing the backbone MAC source address with a BEB backbone MAC address, thereby preventing of backbone MAC address learning of the first PBB network in the second PBB network.

Method and system for preventing MAC addresses learning in a provider backbone network (PBBN)

A network topology including at least one protection infrastructure segment for each work infrastructure segment, such that the work infrastructure segment and the corresponding protection infrastructure segment terminate on the same nodes, wherein the two protection infrastructure segments pass through at least one bridge node, monitoring for failure in the work and protection infrastructure segment in the network, switching Traffic Engineered Service Instance (TESI) over high priority protection infrastructure segment, and provisioning two SPG of co-joint node to prevent infrastructure segment from forwarding ambiguity and retracing of the TESI.
