A method for access communication network convergence includes (1) obtaining subscription policy information associated with a network client capable of being served by a plurality of access communication networks, (2) obtaining network characteristics representing operating state of each of the plurality of access communication networks, and (3) assigning data flowing between the network client and a hub to one or more of the plurality of access communication networks at least partially based on the subscription policy information and the network characteristics. The plurality of access communication networks include, for example, a wireless access communication network and a wireline access communication network.

Converged access communication systems and associated methods

Systems and methods manage data traffic by converging a mobile network operator (MNO) core network with a multiple-system operator (MSO) core network (e.g., a Hybrid-Mobile Virtual Network Operator (H-MVNO) core network). The system architecture includes one or more standards-based inter-network interfaces (e.g., as defined by Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards) established between the MSO core network and the MNO core network and/or a dedicated core to provide a data signal pathway between the MNO core network and the MSO core network. As such, a user equipment (UE) receives data services through the H-MVNO core network via the standards-based inter-network interface when the UE is connected to a radio access network (RAN) for the MNO core network. Various configurations provide data services for single-subscriber identity module (SIM) UEs and dual-SIM UEs. Voice/message services are provided by a voice/message core.

Using dispatch communications, subscriber units may send messages to the blog server for posting by way of the dispatch server, may receive notification of the posting of messages from the blog server by way of the dispatch server, and may retrieve messages from the blog server by way of the dispatch server.

A wireless communications system includes a radio network facilitating wireless communications with a wireless subscriber unit, a dispatch application server providing dispatch communications services to the subscriber unit via the radio network, and an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) infrastructure including a Proxy-Call Session Control Function (P-CSCF) and a Serving-CSCF (S-CSCF). The P-CSCF notifies the dispatch application server of subscriber unit registration events, allowing the dispatch application server to provide dispatch communications services without initiating a separate registration process. Dispatch communications are routed between the wireless subscriber unit and dispatch application server through the P-CSCF, bypassing the S-CSCF of the IMS infrastructure.

An inter-working network includes a plurality of interfaces for facilitating communications with a plurality of dispatch networks, a signaling controller, a media gateway and a system for facilitating the monetization of inter-carrier dispatch communications. The signaling controller and media gateway generate dispatch call records for dispatch sessions facilitated through the inter-working network. The system includes a billing accumulator and a settlement entity. The billing accumulator is interfaced with the inter-working network and includes logic to receive and store the dispatch call data records from the inter-working architecture. The settlement entity is interfaced with the billing accumulator, and includes settlement logic for converting each stored dispatch call data record to a billing record for each of at least two of the dispatch networks.

A communication system that is particularly suited to switch a full duplex session to a half duplex session. The system includes a VoIP server that sets up a full duplex session; and a dispatch call controller server that receives a request to switch the full duplex session to a half duplex session; forwards the request to the target subscriber unit; receives an acceptance of the request; and sets up the half duplex session between the subscriber units. In another embodiment, the VoIP server receives the request to switch to the half duplex session; forwards the request to the target subscriber unit; receives an acceptance of the request; and instructs the dispatch call controller to set up the half duplex session. In yet another embodiment, a service broker receives the request, instructs the dispatch call controller to set up the half duplex session, and instructs the VoIP server to terminate the full duplex session. In yet another embodiment, the switch from full-to-half is network-driven instead of user-driven.
