Disclosed is a non-toxic omega-3 rich extract and non-toxic miscella and a method of producing same. The method may include obtaining an aqueous microalgae slurry comprising at least 65% water; mixing the aqueous microalgae slurry with ethanol for a predetermined duration; separating the aqueous microalgae slurry-ethanol mixture to liquids and miscella; and evaporating the water and the ethanol from the liquid to receive a liquid extract. In some embodiments, the miscella contains organic material and ash at an amount below 15 dry weight %.

A method of growing algae in a cultivation container is disclosed. In some the method may include: circulating, via the cultivation container, in a closed loop, a first predetermined amount of gas mixture comprising a first type of gas and at least one second type of gas, the gas mixture may enter the container via one or more entrance spargers and exit via at least one exit pipe, the first type of gas may contain COat a known first amount; receiving signal indicative of the amount of COor HS, in the gas mixture; when the signal indicates that the amount of COdrops below a first predetermined level or when the signal indicates that the amount of HS rises above a first predetermined level, extracting a second predetermined amount of the gas mixture from the cultivation container: and adding an amount of the first type of gas to the gas mixture, equal to the second predetermined amount.

A method of extracting Polyhydroxylated Fatty Alcohols is disclosed. The method may include: inserting crushed avocado seeds to one or more extraction chambers; flowing supercritical COfluid through the crushed avocado seeds in one or more extraction chambers; and separating from the supercritical COflown through the crushed avocado seeds the Polyhydroxylated Fatty Alcohols extracted and dissolved in the supercritical CO. The supercritical COfluid may be the only solvent used for dissolving and extracting the Polyhydroxylated Fatty Alcohols.

A non-invasive monitoring device for monitoring physiological condition of a subject may include at least one light source for emitting light at at least one predetermined narrow spectral wavelength band onto a living tissue of the subject and two or more light sensors. Aspects of the invention are directed to a system and method of sparging an algae cultivation container. The method may include controlling at least one first sparger to distribute a first fluid into the container at a first operating flow rate; and controlling at least one second sparger to distribute a second fluid into the container at a second operating flow rate. The first operating flow rate may be adapted to allow mixing the algae in the cultivation container, and the second operating flow rate may be adapted to allow assimilation of materials in a liquid in the cultivation container.

Botanical extracts are provided, which comprise ethanol extracts ofhaving between 1 wt % and 50 wt % polar lipids and between 45 wt % and 60 wt % fatty acids, wherein the fatty acids comprise more than 10 wt % of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) as triglyceride conjugates and/or diglyceride conjugates, and less than 15 wt % EPA as free fatty acids. EPA level may reach up to 90 wt %, and the botanical extract may be fluid at room temperature. Growth conditions are configured, adjusted and monitored to promote EPA formation in the cell vacuoles, resulting in a high proportion of EPA as tri/di-glyceride conjugates, as well as in a high concentration of Ω-3 fatty acids, which merely requires gentle extraction procedures to reach the final products, thereby maintaining the biochemical of the compounds without excessive modifications.

The system may include at least two sets of calibrating elements, each set may include a plurality of calibrating elements. The method may include: emitting light beams towards skin of the subject, with at least one light source having at least one predetermined polarization, wherein the light beams are emitted at an angle 0&#xb0;&#x2264;&#x3b1;&#x3c;90&#xb0; relative to the normal to the skin surface of the subject; sensing light beams with at least one light sensor positioned at a predetermined distance from the at least one light emitting source; filtering out signals corresponding to detected light beams based on the at least one predetermined polarization of the at least one light source; and determining at least one physiological signal, based on the sensed light beams after filtering. The sensed light beams may pass through at least one of epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous tissue and blood vessel of the subject.
