An athermal arrayed-waveguide grating is disclosed and includes an input waveguide for inputting two or more optical signals from one exterior side, a grating array for separating the optical signals into different wavelengths of light, a first slab, formed with two layers and having different refractive indices from each other, for connecting the input waveguide with the grating array, a second slab for causing the different light wavelengths separated at the grating array to be imaged on an egress surface thereof, and an output waveguide array for outputting each light wavelength imaged on the egress surface of the second slab to the other exterior side in the form of a separated channel.

Athermal arrayed waveguide grating

An optical hybrid module and method of manufacture includes a plurality of optical devices integrated on an optical waveguide substrate. The structure helps to reduce optical crosstalk among the plurality of optical devices caused by reflections of leakage lights within the optical hybrid module. The optical hybrid module includes a substrate, an optical waveguide formed on the substrate for performing transmission of optical signals, a plurality of optical devices mounted on the substrate to be optically coupled with the optical waveguide, and a light blocking layer formed to have an inclined profile at opposite sides of an end surface of an optical coupling portion centrally provided in the optical waveguide. The light blocking layer serves to prevent light from entering the optical devices, through regions other than the optical waveguide.

Optical hybrid module and manufacturing method thereof

An optical power splitter that can minimize the chip size with its manufacturing cost. The optical power splitter has one input optical waveguide and N output optical waveguides and splits an optical signal incident from the input optical waveguide into N optical signals. The optical power splitter includes at least two optical splitters having a structure of a planar lightwave circuit element and arranged apart from one another at predetermined intervals in a single chip, and an alignment waveguide for aligning the input and output optical waveguides of the plurality of optical splitters.

A gain flattening device for an optical fiber amplifier. In the gain flattening device, a first end portion, having first and second ends, receives an amplified optical signal from a first amplification fiber via the first end. A second end portion, having third and fourth ends, outputs the amplified optical signal to a second amplification fiber via the fourth end. A first connector is included for connecting the first end to the third end. A second connector is included for connecting the second end to the fourth end. At least one reflective grating is further included with a predetermined gain curve at a predetermined wavelength band. An optical coupling portion couples the amplified optical signal from the first connector to the second connector in at least one coupling region where the first and second connectors are closer to each other than in any other area, and outputs part of the amplified optical signal reflected from the reflective grating via the second end.

Gain flattening device for an optical fiber amplifier

Disclosed is a ferrule for hermetically packaging optical fibers which includes: an opening provided along a longitudinal direction of the ferrule and having an optical-fiber cable passing there-through; the optical-fiber cable including a plurality of optical-fiber strands; a pair of soldering holes, each extending from a predetermined place on the outer peripheral surface of the ferrule to the through hole; and a pinhole positioned between the soldering holes and extending from a predetermined place on the outer peripheral surface of the ferrule to the through hole.

Disclosed is a variable alignment-type optical fiber block in which alignment of waveguides can be changed according to temperature. The optical fiber block includes: a substrate having a receiving section formed at one end of the substrate, the receiving section having a predetermined volume; a ferrule seated in the receiving section, the ferrule having a hole in which an optical fiber is inserted; a first expandable block disposed between one side surface of the ferrule and an inner wall surface of the receiving section, which are opposed to each other, the first expandable block having a first thermal expansive coefficient; and, a second expandable block disposed between the other side surface of the ferrule and another inner wall surface of the receiving section, which are opposed to each other, the second expandable block having a second thermal expansive coefficient.

Variable alignment-type optical fiber block

There is provided a packaging unit for an optical fiber array using a planar lightwave circuit (PLC). An optical fiber array is fixed within a housing. The housing has first and second slots formed to face each other on the side periphery, and each of the first and second slots has opened ends to make the inner and outer walls of the housing communicate with each other. An optical fiber of the optical fiber array is inserted through first and second boots and then the first and second boots are inserted in the first and second slots of the housing.

Disclosed are a holder and a holder base used for mounting an optical object. The holder fixes an object by making contact with both sides of the object and includes a body having a protruding jaw formed at an upper portion thereof, and a protrusion part extending from the protruding jaw by a predetermined distance, wherein a hole is formed at the front portion of the protrusion part. A sliding member is coupled to the protrusion part through an opening formed at a center thereof and a spring is fixed to one end of the body and the other end of the sliding member, wherein the spring serves to provide an elastic restoring force to the sliding member in a direction towards the body. Further, a fixing nail is inserted into the hole of the protrusion part and is formed at one end thereof with a handle, and a wedge is coupled to the fixing nail through an opening formed at a sidewall thereof and inserted between the protrusion part and an inner wall forming the opening of the sliding member.

A packaging device for alignment between a planar lightguide circuit and an optical-fiber block is disclosed. The device includes a planar lightguide circuit and a single optical-fiber block. The planar lightguide circuit includes an input port of an input waveguide, a plurality of output ports of output waveguides, arranged on the same surface as the input port of the input waveguide, and at least one dummy waveguide arranged abutting the outermost end of the output waveguides. An output port of the dummy waveguide is arranged on the same surface. The single optical-fiber block includes a plurality of ports corresponding to the input/output ports. The input/output ports are coupled in alignment with the input port of the input waveguide and the output ports of the output waveguides. The invention enables making a single processed alignment of the input/output ports of the planar lightguide circuit and the single input/output ports.

Packaging device for optical waveguide element

There is provided a PLC module formed by depositing the core as an optical signal transmission medium and the clad surrounding the core on a semiconductor substrate, wherein a heating line is attached to the lower surface of the PLC and generates heat to the PLC from externally received power. An insulation layer is coated on the lower surface of the PLC with the heating line fixed thereto. Therefore, the direct attachment of the heating line to the lower surface of the PLC minimizes heat loss.

Integrated heat transfer device for PLC module

An optical device module using an integral heat transfer module. The heat transfer module has an integrally formed heat source and a temperature sensor for reading temperature. A heat transfer path is simplified in packaging the optical device module, so that the optical device can avoid performance degradation due to nonuniform temperature distribution. The amount power consumption can be reduced and excellent workability can be ensured.

Accordingly, the overall productivity is increased. Further, there are not a lot differences in speed between skilled hands and novices since the positioning operations do not rely on the expertise of the operator, and the positioning operations for mass production can be accomplished since the speed of repetition is enhanced.

Apparatus and method for controlling the positioning of optical fiber blocks and a planar lightwave circuit

A planar light waveguide circuit includes a plurality of landmarks arranged on the planar light waveguide circuit at intervals of a specific gap starting from a cut section of the planar light waveguide circuit so as to increase the uniformity of a coupling loss that occurs when connecting the planar light waveguide circuit in alignment with optical fiber blocks, wherein the landmarks are formed onto the planar light waveguide circuit so as to enable an operator to monitor a permissible angle error, and wherein Arabic numerals or specific symbols are marked in association with the landmarks to help the operator distinguish the landmarks.

Disclosed is a device for aligning an optical source and an optical fiber in an optical source module. The optical source module has a substrate, an optical source mounted on the substrate, an optical fiber for receiving lights emitted by the optical source, an optical fiber ferrule for supporting the optical fiber, and a saddle mounted on the substrate for holding the optical fiber ferrule. The saddle comprises a pair of base layers distanced apart from each other so that the optical fiber ferrule can be inserted thereto; a sub-rib member extending upwardly from internal ends of the respective base layer; a center-rib member extending in a vertical upward direction from the center of the respective sub-rib member; an arm member displaced along the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber ferrule, and having a pair of welded sections for coupling the optical fiber ferrule thereto; a tapered reinforcing member extending from the respective arm member; and, a loop member having a bent shape coupled to both ends of the reinforcing sections.
