A trigger system for use with a downhole tool. The trigger system may include a first housing forming a first pressure chamber at a first pressure and including a membrane positioned in a wall of the first housing, a piston disposed at least partially within the first housing and shiftable from an initial position to an actuated position to actuate the downhole tool, and a trigger. The trigger may include a second housing sealed against the first housing proximate the membrane to form a second pressure chamber at a second pressure and a rupturing member positioned within the second housing and operable to pierce the membrane to balance the pressures within the first housing and the second housing and shift the piston from the initial position to the actuated position.

A completion string includes at least one isolation packer positioned between well zones of a plurality of well zones, and a sand control assembly and a circulating assembly each disposed uphole of a washdown shoe in the bottom-most well zone. A top well zone includes a return valve assembly, a production packer, and a second circulating assembly and a second sand control assembly downhole of the production packer. The completion string also includes an outer string spanning from the bottom-most well zone to the top well zone, and an inner production string concentrically arranged within the outer string, creating an inner-annulus between the outer string and inner production string. The inner-annulus is continuous from the washdown shoe to the return valve assembly, and the inner production string includes a production valve disposed between the sand control assembly and the circulating assembly in each of the bottom-most and top well zones.

The disclosure herein generally relates to flow control valves having mechanisms to prevent, inhibit, reduce the likelihood or extent of, and/or protect against erosion of components of the flow control valve, for example, due to the effects of leakage flow.

An electronic trigger system includes a longitudinal housing including detection, electronics, and actuation sections disposed therein. The detection section includes a pressure sensor for receiving a predetermined pressure signal, and an electronic control board including at least one battery is disposed in the electronics section. The actuation section includes a prefill chamber, a setting piston disposed in the prefill chamber, an actuation device, an atmospheric chamber, and a pressure port. A predetermined amount of prefilled fluid at hydrostatic pressure is trapped between the setting piston and the actuation device in the prefill chamber. The actuation device isolates the prefilled fluid at hydrostatic pressure in the prefill chamber from the atmospheric chamber. Actuation occurs when, upon receipt of the predetermined pressure signal by the pressure sensor, the electronic control board transmits power to the actuation device, causing the prefilled fluid to flow through the actuation device and into the atmospheric chamber.

A downhole valve assembly includes a safety valve and an actuator that opens and/or closes the valve. The actuator can be an electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA), an electro mechanical actuator (EMA), or an electro hydraulic pump (EHP). The downhole safety valve can also include an electric magnet.

A controllable, multi-zone control system is provided for controlling the inflow of fluids into a completion, e.g. a lateral completion, at a plurality of well zones. According to an embodiment, flow control devices are distributed along the completion and a control module is positioned between the flow control devices, e.g. in a middle region of the completion. The control module is supplied with hydraulic actuating fluid and is electrically controllable to enable selective distribution of the hydraulic actuating fluid to selected flow control devices. The control module may be controlled via electric signals, thus controlling distribution of hydraulic actuating fluid under pressure to selected flow control devices so as to shift the selected flow control devices to a desired open or closed flow position.

Active flow control with multizone hydraulic power distribution module

A technique facilitates active zonal control over the inflow of fluids into a lateral wellbore completion at individual well zones of a plurality of well zones. The completion may comprise a plurality of sand screens through which inflowing fluids pass before entering an interior of the completion, e.g. before entering an interior of a completion base pipe. A control module is positioned along the completion between well zones. The control module is controlled via electrical control signals and is operatively connected with a plurality of intelligent flow control devices which are located along the completion in corresponding well zones. Based on signals received, the control module individually controls the intelligent flow control devices to allow or block flow into an interior of the completion at each well zone.

Active integrated flow control for completion system

A system and methodology facilitates utilization of a valve of a type which may be used as a subsea test tree. The valve comprises a valve element pivotably mounted in a housing having a passageway therethrough. The valve element may be actuated between an open position and a closed position blocking the passageway. A cutter is disposed along a first surface of the valve element and a seal system is positioned for engagement with a second surface of the valve element to provide separate cutting and sealing surfaces. Actuating the valve element from the open position to the closed position enables cutting of a conveyance, that may be positioned through the passageway, while simultaneously forming a seal along a separate surface to sealingly block the passageway.

Pressure cycle independent indexer devices and methods include an indexing logic having a trigger sequence path defining a pressure event (e.g., one or more pressure events) between a starting slot and an actuation slot and each pressure event being located between a sequence transition point from an incoming sequence leg into an outgoing sequence leg of the trigger sequence path and a return transition point from the trigger sequence path into a return path. The indexing logic may permit cycling hydraulic pressures in a well without inadvertently cycling through the trigger sequence path.

Pressure cycle independent indexer and methods

A technique enables failsafe control over actuators used to actuate downhole tools. The technique may utilize a well system having a tool with an adjustable member. An actuation mechanism serves as a fail-as-is mechanism and works in cooperation with the adjustable member. The actuation member is shiftable upon receiving a predetermined input; however the actuation member does not move the adjustable member upon each shift. Once the actuation member has been shifted the requisite number of times to move the adjustable member to another position, at least one subsequent shift of the actuation member is not able to cause movement of the adjustable member. The result is a fail-as-is technique for ensuring the tool is not inadvertently actuated to another operational position.

Fail as is mechanism and method

A switching apparatus, system, and method configured to operate at least a dual line downhole tool via a single pressure source are provided. The switching apparatus may comprise a housing configured to contain a switching piston actuated by a fluid pressure source. The apparatus may further contain a switching valve comprising a first and second coupling passageway coupled to a switching valve housing comprising four ports. The switching piston may actuate the switching valve, alternating the coupling between a first configuration in which the four ports are communicatively coupled into two sets of ports and a second configuration in which the four ports are communicatively coupled into an alternate two sets of ports. The first configuration may configure the fluid pressure source to actuate the downhole tool in a first manner and the second configuration may configure the fluid pressure source to actuate the downhole tool in a second manner.

Method for controlling a downhole tool with a linearly actuated hydraulic switch

A method of coupling a first control line to a second control line is provided comprising the steps of prepping the first and second control lines to respectively produce a first end and a second end. Prepping may comprise inserting a plug assembly into at least one of the first or second ends prior to facing the end containing the plug assembly. The method may further include butt-welding the first end to the second end to form a splice and providing a protective assembly to cover the splice. The plug assembly may comprise a plug member, a seal, and an end piece to couple the seal to the plug member, in some embodiments. In other embodiments, the plug assembly may comprise a plug member and a seal coupled to the plug member.

Method and system of hydraulic control line connection

The present invention provides a field weldable connection. In one embodiment, the field weldable connection is a downhole connector assembly for sealingly attaching a first and a second segment of a control line. The control line has an outer housing that encapsulates a polymeric secondary housing. A communication line runs therethrough the secondary housing. The connector further comprises a weld coupling welded to the outer housing of the first and second segments of the control line. To protect the communication line from the thermal radiation and heat generated during the welding process, at least one reflective sleeve replaces a portion of the secondary housing at a location intermediate the communication line and the welds of the coupling.
