An optical rotary joint communication apparatus for communicating between a rotor and a stator. Optical sources and detectors are arranged on both the rotor and the stator to provide bi-directional communication. As the rotor rotates, downlink detectors on the rotor sequentially communicate via line-of-sight optical channels with corresponding downlink receivers on the stator. Each downlink receiver is provided a curved mirror reflecting the downlink beam onto the downlink receiver when the rotation angle of the rotor is within a corresponding angle interval. When the rotation angle moves past the angle interval, the downlink beams transition to another mirror and another downlink receiver. The downlink beams are directed predominantly tangential to the rotor circumference. Adjacent downlink transmitters transmit redundant data, and transitions between downlink receivers are staggered for adjacent downlink transmitters to occur at non-overlapping rotation angles in order to prevent loss of data during transitions.

A method of processing, by a processor of a computer, positron emission tomography (PET) information obtained from a PET detector, including the steps of obtaining a singles event list that includes a plurality of single event entries, each entry corresponding to a single event detected by the PET detector and including a timestamp, energy information, and crystal position information; and determining, based on the timestamp and the crystal position information of each entry and a predetermined coincidence time period, all event pairs within the plurality of single event entries, each event pair consisting of two single events whose respective timestamps differ by less than the predetermined coincidence time period, wherein the determining step determines that an event pair exists when at least two, but no more than k, single events are found within a given time window, wherein k is an integer value greater than or equal to two.

System for online/offline singles-pairing with keeping/rejecting multi-coincidences for positron emission tomography

A method of processing positron emission tomography (PET) information obtained from a PET detector having a plurality of detector regions, each detector region having at least one detector module and a corresponding regional collector, the method including the steps of receiving PET event information for a single PET event, the PET event information including energy information and crystal position information of the single PET event; receiving non-detector event information; generating an event list that includes (1) a PET event entry, the PET event entry including a fine time stamp, the energy information, and the crystal position information, and (2) a non-detector event entry that includes the received non-detector event information; and transmitting the generated event list to a computer for off-line processing.
