A three-dimensional (3D) antenna array system in the form of a phased array antenna having a first antenna array and a second antenna array, a calibration circuit including an external signal generator, and a hinged power transformer is described. The external signal generator is electrically connected to the first antenna array, and the first antenna array is electrically coupled to the second antenna array via the hinged power transformer. The hinged power transformer mechanically joins the first antenna array to the second antenna array in one of a first position and a second position, with the first antenna array being disposed at an angle in relation to the second antenna array when the hinged power transformer is disposed in the first position.

Three-dimensional antenna array system

An antenna array system includes a receiver with a plurality of receiving chains adapted to receive incoming signals from corresponding receiver antennas. A respective directional coupler is positioned in proximity to each of the plurality of receiving chains. The plurality of receiving chains is adapted to receive a respective pilot signal through the respective directional coupler, the respective pilot signal being transmitted simultaneously. A controller has a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which instructions are recorded for a method of calibration. One of the plurality of receiving chains is selected as a reference channel. The controller is adapted to perform calibration for the plurality of receiving chains based on the respective pilot signal, including obtaining respective chain phase values and respective gain factors. The calibration is performed without mechanical switching off or physically disconnecting the corresponding receiver antennas.

Method and system for establishing secured wireless communications using electromagnetic polarization techniques

A system and method to control communication in a vehicle include receiving an input. A controller determines whether to transmit a message using a high frequency (HF) communication system based on the input. The frequency range used by the HF communication system is lower than a frequency range used by the cellular communication system. The method includes controlling transmission by the HF communication system based on determining to transmit the message using the HF communication system.
