The invention concerns a cold work steel having the following chemical composition in weight-%: 0.60-0.85 C from traces to 1.5 (Si+Al) 0.1-2.0 Mn 3.0-7.0 Cr 1.5-4.0 (Mo+), however max. 1.0 W 0.30-0.65 V max. 0.1 of each of Nb, Ti, and Zr max. 2.0 Co max. 2.0 Ni balance essentially only iron and unavoidable impurities.

A steel alloy suitable for holders and holder details for plastic molding tools contains in weight-%: 0.06-0.15 C, 0.07-0.22 N, wherein the total amount of C+N shall satisfy the condition, 0.16&#x2266;C+N&#x2266;0.26, 0.1-1.0 Si, 0.1-2.0 Mn, 12.5-14.5 Cr, 0.8-2.5 Ni, 0.1 1.5 Mo, optionally vanadium up to max. 0.7 V, optionally, in order to improve the machinability of the steel, one or more of the elements S, Ca and O in amounts up to max. 0.25 S, max. 0.01 (100 ppm) Ca, max. 0.01 (100 ppm) O, balance iron and unavoidable impurities.

The invention relates to a powder metallurgically manufactured steel with a chemical composition containing, in % by weight: 0.01-2 C, 0.6-10 N, 0.01-3.0 Si, 0.01-10.0 Mn, 16-30 Cr, 0.01-5 Ni, 0.01-5.0 (Mo+W/2), 0.01-9 Co, max. 0.5 S and 0.5-14 (V+Nb/2), where the contents of N on the one hand and of (V+Nb/2) on the other hand are balanced in relation to each other such that the contents of these elements are within an area that is defined by the coordinates A', B&#x2032;, G, H, A&#x2032;, where the coordinates of [N, (V+Nb/2)] are: A&#x2032;: [0.6,0.5]; B&#x2032;: [1.6,0.5]; G: [9.8,14.0]; H: [2.6,14.0], and max. 7 of (Ti+Zr+Al), balance essentially only iron and impurities at normal amounts. The steel may be used for tools for injection molding, compression molding and extrusion of components of plastics, and cold working.

Steel alloy and tools or components manufactured out of the steel alloy

The invention relates to a powder metallurgically manufactured steel with a chemical composition containing, in % by weight: 0.01-2 C, 0.6-10 N, 0.01-3.0 Si, 0.01-10.0 Mn, 16-30 Cr, 0.01-5 Ni, 0.01-5.0 (Mo+W/2), 0.01-9 Co, max. 0.5 S and 0.5-14 (V+Nb/2), where the contents of N on the one hand and of (V+Nb/2) on the other hand are balanced in relation to each other such that the contents of these elements are within an area that is defined by the coordinates A', B&#x2032;, G, H, A&#x2032;, where the coordinates of [N, (V+Nb/2)] are: A: [0.6,0.5]; B&#x2032;: [1.6,0.5]; G: [9.8,14.0]; H: [2.6,14.0], and max. 7 of (Ti+Zr+Al), balance essentially only iron and impurities at normal amounts. The steel is intended to be used in the manufacturing of tools for injection moulding, compression moulding and extrusion of components of plastics, and for tools for cold working, which are exposed to corrosion. The invention also relates to construction components such as injection nozzles for engines, wear parts, pump parts, bearing components etc. Yet another field of application is the use of the steel alloy for the manufacturing of knives for food industry.

A cold work steel has the following chemical composition in weight-%: 1.25-1.75% (C+N), however at least 0.5% C 0.1-1.5% Si 0.1-1.5% Mn 4.0-5.5% Cr 2.5-4.5% (Mo+W/2), however max. 0.5% W 3.0-4.5% (V+Nb/2), however max. 0.5% Nb max 0.3% S balance iron and unavoidable impurities, and a microstructure which in the hardened and tempered condition of the steel contains 6-13 vol-% of vanadium-rich MX-carbides, -nitrides and/or carbonitrides which are evenly distributed in the matrix of the steel, where X is carbon and/or nitrogen, at least 90 vol-% of said carbides, nitrides and/or carbonitrides having an equivalent diameter, D, which is smaller than 3.0 &#x3bc;m; and totally max. 1 vol-% of other, possibly existing carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides.

Cold work steel and manufacturing method thereof

The invention concerns a steel, particularly a steel for mould tools for plastic moulding, having the following chemical composition in weight-%:0.43-0.60 C from traces to 1.5 Si from traces to 1.5 (Si+Al) 0.1-2.0 Mn 3.0-7.0 Cr 1.5-4.0 (Mo+), however max. 1.0 W 0.30-0.70 V max. 0.1 of each of Nb, Ti and Zr max. 2.0 Co max. 2.0 Ni balance essentially only iron and unavoidable impurities. After hardening and high temperature tempering at 520-560&#xb0; C., the steel has a hardness of 56-68 HRC.

Steel and mould tool for plastic materials made of the steel

The invention concerns an article of a steel which is characterized in that it consists of an alloy which contains in weight-%: 1.2-2.0 C, 0.1-1.5 Si, 0.1-2.0 Mn, max. 0.2 N, max. 0.25 S, 4-8 Cr, 0.5-3.5 (Mo+W/2), 5-8 V, max. 1.0 Nb, balance essentially only iron and unavoidable impurities, and that the steel has a micro-structure obtainable by a manufacturing of the steel which comprises spray forming of an ingot, the micro-structure of which contains 8-15 vol-% carbides of essentially only MC-type where M substantially consists of vanadium, of which carbides at least 80 vol-% have a substantially rounded shape and a size in the longest extension of the carbides amounting to 1-20 &#x3bc;m.

Cold work steel

A steel alloy has a chemical composition which contains in weight-%, 0.16-0.27 C, 0.06-0.13 N, wherein total content of C+N shall satisfy the condition, 0.3&#x3c;C+N&#x3c;0.4, 0.1-1.5 Si, 0.1-1.2 Mn, 12.5-14.5 Cr, 0.5-1.7 Ni, 0.2-0.8 Mo, 0.1-0.5 V. The steel is suitable for plastic molding tools.

The invention concerns a steel article, which consists of an alloy having a chemical composition, which contains in weight-%: 1.2 to 2.5 C; 0.8 to 2.0 Si, which partly can be replaced by aluminium, which may exist in an amount of max 1.0%; 0.1 to 1.5 Mn; 0.5 to 1.5 Cr; 1.2 to 5.0 (V+Nb/2), however max 1.0 Nb; balance iron and impurities in normal amounts, and having a microstructure which contains 4 to 12 volume-% of MC-carbides. The steel article can be used for manufacturing of cold-work tools, particularly pilger rolls for cold rolling of tubes. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing the article.

Steel cold work tool, its use and manufacturing

A powder metallurgy manufactured high speed steel with a high content of nitrogen in the form of a body formed through consolidation of alloyed metal power has the chemical composition in weight-% ; 1-25 C, 1-3.5 N, 0.05-1.7 Mn, 0.05-1.2 Si, 3-6 Cr, 2-5 Mo, 0.05-5W, 6.2-1.7 (V&plus;2 Nb), balance iron and unavoidable impurities in normal amounts, wherein the amount of, on one hand, the carbon equivalent, Ceq, expressed as formula (I), and, on the other hand, the vanadium equivalent, Veq, expressed as Veq&equals;V&plus;2 Nb, are balanced relative to each other such that the amounts of said elements, express in term of said equivalent, will lie within the area A -B -C -D -A in the system of co-ordinates in the figure, in which the Ceq/Veq-co-ordinates of the points A -D are A : 4.5/17; B : 5.5/17; C : 2.5/6.2; D ; 1.5/6.2. The structure of the steel in the hardened and tempered condition, contains 12-40 vol-% of hard matter consisting of particles of MX-type, which are evenly distributed in the matrix of the steel, where M in said hard matter of MX-type essentially consists of vanadium and/or niobium, and X consists of 30-50 weight-% carbon and 50-70 weight-% nitrogen.

Powder metallurgy manufactured high speed steel

The invention concerns a steel material which consists of a steel having the following chemical composition in weigh-%: 1.0-1.9 C, 0.5-2.0 Si, 0.1-1.5 Mn, 4.0-5.5 Cr, 2.5-4.0 (Mo&plus;W/2), however max 1.0 W, 2.0-4.5 (V&plus;Nb/2), however max 1.0. Nb, balance iron and impurities in normal amounts in the form of residual elements from the manufacturing of the steel, and with a microstructure, which in the hardened and tempered condition of the steel contains 5-12 vol-% MC-carbides, at least about 80 vol-% of the carbides having a size which is larger than 3 &mgr;m but smaller than 25 &mgr;m preferably smaller than 20 &mgr;m, and, prior to tempering, 0.50-0.70 weight-% carbon, which is dissolved in the martensite in the hardened condition of the steel. The material is intended for cold work tools, in the first place for homogenous rolls for cold rolling of meta, strips.

Steel material and its manufacture

A steel material for hot work tools has an alloy composition that in weight-% essentially consists of: 0.3-0.4 C, 0.2-0.8 Mn, 4-6 Cr, 1.8-3 Mo, 0.4-0.8 V, balance iron and unavoidable metallic and non-metallic impurities, said non-metallic impurities comprising silicon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphor and sulfur, the contents of which does not exceed the following maximum contents: max. 0.25 Si, max. 0.010 N, max. 10 ppm O, max. 0.010 weight-% P.

Steel material for hot work tools

A steel material which is manufactured in a non-powder metallurgical way, comprising production of ingots or castings from a melt, consists of an alloy having the following chemical composition in weight-% Carbon: 2.0-4.3%, Silicon: 0.1-2.0%, Manganese: 0.1-2.0%, Chromium: 5.6-8.5%, Nickel: max. 1.0%, Molybdenum: 1.7-3%, wherein Mo completely or partly can be replaced by double the amount of W, Niobium: max. 2.0%, Vanadium: 6.5-15%, wherein V partly can be replaced by double amount of Nb up to max. 2% Nb, Nitrogen: max. 0.3%, wherein the contents of on the one hand carbon and nitrogen and on the other hand vanadium and any possibly existing niobium shall be balanced relative to each other, such that the contents of the said elements shall lie within the area of A, B&Prime;, E, F, B&prime;, B, C, D, A in the co-ordinate system in FIG. where V&plus;2Nb, C&plus;N co-ordinates for said points are A: (9,3.1), B&Prime;: (9,2.85), E: (15,4.3), F: (15,3.75), B&prime;: (9,2.65), B: (9,2.5), C: (6.5,2.0), D: (6.5,2.45).
