A raw gas collection system for collecting raw gas from a plurality of aluminium smelting pots is equipped with a plurality of branch ducts, each of which is arranged to channel a respective branch flow of raw gas from an aluminium smelting pot to a collection duct, which is common to and shared by the branch ducts. Each of said branch ducts is, near an outlet thereof, equipped with a curved section for aligning the branch flow with a flow direction of raw gas already present in the common collection duct, and a constriction for accelerating the branch flow through the branch duct outlet into the common collection duct. Furthermore, each of said branch ducts is equipped with a heat exchanger for removing heat from the respective branch flow of raw gas. The combined flow resistance of the constriction and the heat exchanger reduces the need for adjusting the respective branch flows using dampers, thereby reducing the power required to transport the raw gas.

Pot heat exchanger

A conveyor () for transporting powder from an inlet point () to at least one discharge point () comprises a fluidized bed transport space () and a fluidization gas supply space (), the fluidized bed transport space () being separated from the fluidization gas supply space () by a gas permeable wall (); a gas outlet () for removing fluidization gas from the transport duct (); means () for separating dust from the removed fluidization gas; and means () for returning the separated dust to the powder proximate the discharge point (). In a preferred embodiment, the separated fines dust is returned to, and homogenized into, the powder in a lower portion of a cyclone, which is located at the discharge point.

A gas cleaning unit for cleaning an effluent gas of at least one aluminium production electrolytic cell comprises a contact reactor in which the effluent gas is brought into contact with alumina, and a dust removal device for removing at least a portion of the alumina. The gas cleaning unit further comprises a wet scrubber in which the effluent gas is brought into contact with an absorption liquid containing water for removing further pollutants from the effluent gas. The wet scrubber is positioned at a point vertically higher than that of the dust removal device.

Device and a method of cleaning an effluent gas from an aluminium production electrolytic cell

An aluminum production electrolytic cell () comprises a bath () with bath contents (), at least one cathode electrode () in contact with said contents (), at least one anode electrode () in contact with said contents (), and a hood (), defining interior area (), covering at least a portion of said bath (). The electrolytic cell () is equipped for effluent gases to be drawn from said interior area (). The electrolytic cell () also comprises at least one heat exchanger () for cooling at least a portion of the gases drawn from interior area (), prior to circulation thereof to interior area () through at least one distribution device ().

Recycled pot gas pot distribution

A raw gas collection system () for collecting raw gas from a plurality of aluminum smelting pots () is equipped with a plurality of branch ducts (-). Each branch duct (-) is arranged to channel a respective branch flow (-) of raw gas from an aluminum smelting pot () to a collecting duct (), which is common to and shared by branch ducts (-). Several of the branch ducts (-) are equipped with a combined heat transfer and flow resistance generating element () to remove heat from the respective branch flow (-) of raw gas and to balance the flow of raw gas in the raw gas collecting system (). The combined heat transfer and flow resistance generating elements () reduce the need for adjusting the respective branch duct (-) flow volumes using dampers, thereby reducing the power required to transport the raw gas through the system.

Raw gas collection system

A gas cleaning unit for cleaning a main raw gas stream from a plant comprises a plurality of gas cleaning chambers (-), each gas cleaning chamber (-) equipped with a cleaning chamber inlet (-); an inlet manifold (), for dividing said main raw gas stream flowing therethrough into a plurality of separate fractional raw gas streams for flow to said cleaning chamber inlets (-); and a plurality of heat exchangers (-), each heat exchanger (-) being located downstream of the inlet manifold () for exchanging heat with a respective fractional raw gas stream entering a respective cleaning chamber (-).

Gas cleaning unit and method for cleaning gas

A first contact reactor, mechanical separator device, one or more second contact reactors, silo, filter, one or more fans each equipped with one or more vibration dampers, an optional wet scrubber and stack are each integrated into a single compact air quality control system (AQCS) compartment. Additionally, a process gas cooling system may be integrated into the compact AQCS compartment. Benefits of the subject compact AQCS compartment includes footprint reduction, operating cost reduction from reduced pressure drop due to reduced ductwork, capital cost reduction from reduced ductwork, noise reduction, weather protection and increased adaptability to meet specific system requirements.

Compact air quality control system compartment for aluminium production plant

A wet scrubber for removal of at least one gaseous pollutant from an effluent gas includes an inlet opening. A gas distributor is arranged in a wet scrubber housing and comprises a diffuser having a cover plate. The cover plate is arranged in the path of the effluent gas flowing into the wet scrubber housing. The diffuser has at least one diffuser channel for transporting the effluent gas from the inlet opening into the wet scrubber housing.
