A method for installing different security clients for channels in a terminal in a conditional access system includes: searching one or more channels searchable in the terminal; requesting, for respective searched channels, security clients necessary for receiving pay programs to be transmitted through the searched channels, to a broadcasting station which takes charge of the searched channels; and downloading and installing, for respective searched channels, the requested security clients from the broadcasting station.

Provided are an apparatus and a method for multimedia data transmission in a cable network using a broadband and physical layer frame structure. The apparatus includes an external network matching module for transmitting data inputted/outputted from/to an external network to a Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) Media Access Control (MAC) layer, a DOCSIS MAC processor for transmitting the data from the external network matching module to a corresponding destination, a first downstream physical layer processor for handling an existing standard transmission in the data from the DOCSIS MAC processor, a second downstream physical layer processor for dealing with a new broadband transmission in the data from the DOCSIS MAC processor, and an upstream physical layer processor for providing received data to the DOCSIS MAC processor.

A decision feedback equalizing apparatus selectively using a feedback filter and a method thereof are provided. A method for composing a lookup table and searching indexes thereof is provided. The method includes the steps of: a) composing a lookup table using a symmetry of a sine and a cosine function; b) changing and setting a gain of a DCO by reflecting a lookup table size in the DCO; c) transforming an absolute value of a DCO output to an integer value; d) determining a range of the integer value of the DCO output; e) searching indexes of a sine and an cosine function according to the range of the integer value of the DCO output; and f) correcting a sign of a lookup table value corresponding to the searched index of the sine function and a sign of a lookup table value corresponding to the searched index of the cosine function according to the range of integers of the DCO output.

A timing lock detection apparatus and method for digital broadcasting receiver are provided. The apparatus includes: a discrete value generator for cyclically selecting a discrete signal value from a continuous timing error signal; a differential calculator for obtaining a difference between the currently selected timing error signal value and a previously selected timing error signal that is a timing jitter signal; a sign variation detector for detecting variation in a sign of the timing jitter signal; a lock control signal generator for discriminating a period based on the detected sign changing time, and controlling a lock step of the loop filter according to a convergence mode of the timing jitter signal at each period; and a lock detection signal generator for generating a lock signal or an unlock signal according to whether the timing jitter signal reaches a steady state and using the current lock step signal.

Provided are an apparatus for receiving cable broadcasting programs and a multiplexer and a de-multiplexer thereof for reducing data amount processed in a Cable CARD and for correcting synchronization of descrambled data stream. Provided is a method for providing a service based on a subscriber level. The method includes the steps of: a) initializing a Data Back-off Start (DBS) value and a Data Back-off End (DBE) value; b) acquiring subscriber information from an external management system; c) acquiring service flow identifier (SFID) and service identifier (SID) information from an object model for quality of service (QoS) based on information on Service Class Name (SCN) of the subscriber acquired in the step b); d) creating manufacturing automation protocol (MAP) according to a priority by grasping the SID information based on the service level and controlling the DBS value and the DBE value of a cable modem (CM); and e) transmitting the created MAP to the cable modem.

Provided are a multiplexing and demultiplexing apparatus and method for delivering an MPEG-2 TS packet error signal through a CableCARD interface. In the multiplexing apparatus, a TS packet reception unit receives TS packets, and a pre-header generation unit generates pre-headers corresponding to the received TS packets. A pre-header insertion unit inserts the pre-headers in front of the received TS packets to generate cable MPEG packets (CMPs), and an output FIFO unit stores the CMPs. A FIFO control unit transfers the CMPs without collision with CMPS of different channels, and an output signal generation unit generates output signals from the CMPs of the different channels.

The apparatus includes: error location and analysis polynomial generating units for performing a modified Euclid algorithm by receiving syndrome data upon receipt of an enable signal, and suspending input of the syndrome data and outputting error location polynomial data and error analysis polynomial data by executing the modified Euclid algorithm independently upon receipt of a disable signal; a controlling unit for controlling the error location and analysis polynomial generating unit and the input of the syndrome data; and switching units for providing the syndrome data to corresponding error location and analysis polynomial generating unit upon receipt of the enable signal and controlling the input of the syndrome data upon receipt of the disable signal. The number of the switching units is identical to that of the error location and analysis polynomial generating units.

Reed-Solomon decoding apparatus and method having high error correction capability

An apparatus for determining a downstream topology in a hybrid-fiber-coaxial network includes: a signal branching unit for branching a signal received from a cable modem termination system into a plurality of branched signals; a plurality of signal selecting units for selectively receiving a frequency band signal corresponding to a specific downstream channel among the plurality of branched signals; a downstream topology determining unit for analyzing a downstream ambiguity resolution frequency list contained in a channel information message of a downstream primary channel received from the cable modem termination system, collecting in parallel channel information messages with respect to a plurality of downstream channels, and determining a downstream topology at a high speed using the collected channel information messages; and a plurality of packet generating units for setting downstream channel frequency bands of the signal selecting units under control of the downstream topology determining unit, and sending the channel information messages of the collected downstream channels to the downstream topology determining unit.

Apparatus and method for determining downstream topology in hybrid-fiber coaxial network

Provided is a method for securing cable modem (CM) following a Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) against physical security attacks. The method includes the steps of: a) classifying information to be stored in the DOCSIS CM based on a requirement degree of confidentiality and anti-alteration; b) storing the information in a non-volatile memory of the DOCSIS CM when the information is absolute confidential information, but processing a mechanism for deleting the information stored in the non-volatile memory in case that attacks by a hacker is sensed; c) storing the information in the non-volatile memory of the DOCSIS CM when the information is middle-level security information; and d) storing the information in a write-once (WO) memory of the DOCSIS CM when the information is absolute anti-alteration information.

Method for securing DOCSIS cable modem against physical security attacks

A PSI converter includes: a protocol data extractor, a protocol data converter, a protocol data inserter, and a system controller. The protocol data extractor is configured for demultiplexing a terrestrial broadcasting TS or a satellite broadcasting TS, and extracting audio/video data and PSIP/PSI data or audio/video data and SI/PSI data from the terrestrial broadcasting TS or the satellite broadcasting TS, respectively. The protocol data converter is configured for converting the PSIP/PSI data or the SI/PSI data into PSIP/PSI data of a corresponding digital cable television broadcasting standard. The protocol data inserter is configured for inserting the digital cable television broadcasting standard PSIP/PSI data into the audio/video data extracted by the protocol data extractor though TS multiplexing, and generating a digital cable broadcasting TS. The system controller is configured for checking the protocol data extractor, the protocol data converter, and the protocol data inserter, and controlling their operation.
