A thermoelectric nanocomposite including porous carbonaceous particles, electrically conductive carbon nanotubes, and a binder. The porous carbonaceous particles contain 88.5 to 96.45 wt % carbon, 1.0 to 3.0 wt % oxygen, 2.5 to 7.5 wt % sulfur, and 0.05 to 1.0 wt % vanadium. The thermoelectric nanocomposite has a thermoelectric figure of merit ZT of 0.018 to 0.026 at 293 K and 0.016 to 0.024 at 393 K, a power factor of 10 to 14.0 μw/mKat 233 K and greater than 14.0 to 18 μW/mKat 393 K, and a Seebeck value of 24 to 27 μV/K at 233 K and 30 to 34 μV/K at 393 K. The thermoelectric nanocomposite may include milled, acid-treated oil fly ash. Also, a method of forming the thermoelectric nanocomposite. The thermoelectric nanocomposite may be used in a thermoelectric device.

Methods of fixing or gluing natural or synthetic bone grafts using a handheld 3D printer to apply a filament or the printing material placed in a syringe over and around the defect or at the interface of a flap and the bone. Methods of printing a graft cage for retaining bone grafts and/or bone graft substitute in its desired location during healing for treatment of critical-sized segmental defects in long bones are provided.

3D printing of polymeric bioceramics for the treatment of bone defects

An antimicrobial air treatment device and a method of its construction. The antimicrobial air treatment device comprises an antimicrobial metal nanoparticle mesh comprising a steel support mesh and a layer of copper nanoparticles disposed on the steel support mesh. The antimicrobial air treatment device may be in the form of a facemask or a component of a moving air filtration system such as an HVAC system, an automobile cabin air filtration system, and an air purifier. The antimicrobial air treatment device may contain one or more filtration layers of filtration medium. The method of constructing the antimicrobial air treatment device involves the preparation of the antimicrobial metal nanoparticle mesh by an electrodeposition technique.

A thermoelectric module comprising nanostructured SnO and SnO, and electrodes arranged between two electrical insulating substrates is described. The nanostructured SnO may be in the form of nanosheets and acting as p-type pillars of the module. The nanostructured SnOmay be in the form of nanospheres and acting as n-type pillars of the module. This thermoelectric module is evaluated on the voltage, current, and power of the electricity generated once subjected to a temperature gradient.

Tin oxide-based thermoelectric device

An organic light emitting diode (OLED) utilizes dysprosium incorporated tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3-Dy) as the emissive layer. The OLED, which can be fabricated as a multi-layer device with each layer having a thickness of 30-300 nm, provides a luminance value at a voltage ranging from 24V to 30V of 3000-15000 cd/m. In comparison to similar OLEDs which utilize pure Alq3, the diodes with the Alq3-Dy layer provide an electroluminescence intensity 20 times higher than diodes with a pure Alq3 layer (Alq3 OLED). In addition, the peak position (EL emission band) of the Alq3-Dy OLED is shifted to the higher wavelength side by 10 nm compared to that of the pure Alq3 OLED (from 515 nm to 525 nm).

A water treatment system with a photocatalytic nanocomposite sheet, an adsorbent layer, and a fibrous filter, wherein the photocatalytic nanocomposite sheet comprises polymethylmethacrylate and silver phosphate, the adsorbent layer comprises plasma activated carbon nanotubes, and the fibrous filter is a composite of polymethylmethacrylate, polyvinylidene fluoride, and polyvinylpyrrolidone polymer fibers, with carbon nanotubes that are dispersed within the polymer fibers and silver nanoparticles that are deposited on the polymer fibers. Various embodiments of the water treatment system and methods of fabricating the photocatalytic nanocomposite sheet, the adsorbent layer, and the fibrous filter are also provided.

Coaxial electrospinning is used to encapsulate a chitin-lignin based hybrid gel with polycaprolactone (PCL). Antibiotics and/or other bioactive agents loaded into the core and/or shell layer of the fibrous platform are released in a controlled and sustained manner that effectively inhibits both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria without cytotoxicity to mammalian cells. The PCL shell layer provides longer life for the CL gels in a wet environment and allows sustainable drug release. The PCL-coated CL nanofiber scaffolds can be loaded with antimicrobial nanoparticles, antibiotics, oxygen-releasing agents, antioxidants and/or growth factors that promote healing when used as a controlled drug release dressing for chronic wounds, such as diabetic ulcers.
