An actuating assembly, including a rotatable core and an electric drive for driving the rotatable core are disclosed. The rotatable core is arranged for engagement with a cable disposed within a pair of conduit sections and the cable can connect with a pair of actuatable devices. The rotatable core is arranged to be operable to pull the cable on each side of the core upon rotation thereof in a first direction, and to extend the cable on each side of the core upon rotation thereof in a second direction. The assembly further includes a pair of reaction abutments disposed on opposite sides of the rotatable core and to which a respective end of each conduit section can be connected. The assembly is arranged to be fixedly mounted and the reaction abutments are mounted for movement relative to the rotatable core for equalisation of cable load transmitted through the conduit sections.

Actuating assembly

An actuating assembly, including a rotatable core and an electric drive for driving the rotatablecore are disclosed. The rotatable core is arranged for engagement with a cable disposed within a pair of conduit sections and the cable can connect with a pair of actuatable devices. The rotatable core is arranged to be operable to pull the cable on each side of the core upon rotation thereof in a first direction, and to extend the cable on each side of the core upon rotation thereof in a second direction. The assembly further includes a pair of reaction abutments disposed on opposite sides of the rotatable core and to which a respective end of each conduit section can be connected. The assembly is arranged to be fixedly mounted and the reaction abutments are mounted for movement relative to the rotatable core for equalization of cable load transmitted through the conduit sections.

An actuating mechanism, particularly for a disc brake caliper, including a screw actuator having a screwand a nutthreadably coupled together, an electric drive for driving one of the screwand the nutaxially relative to the other and including a statorand a rotor, a sleeve assembly including a generally cylindrical sleeveinterposed between the rotorand the nutand supporting the rotorfor rotation relative to the sleeve. The rotoris connected to one of the screwor the nutfor rotating the screwor the nut. The screw actuator being at least partly mounted within the sleeveand being arranged to bear against a portion of the sleeve assembly to transmit axial thrust to the sleeve assembly, and the sleeve assembly cooperating with an abutment to transmit the axial thrust to the abutment.

Actuating mechanism and brake assembly

A disc brake caliper for use with a disc brake rotor having a first side and a second side. The caliper further includes a first mounting portion and a second mounting portion each positioned adjacent one side of the disc brake rotor. The caliper further includes brake pads disposed adjacent the respective mounting portions such that brake pads are on opposite sides of the disc brake rotor and in facing relationship therewith. Further, the disc caliper includes a hydraulic service brake actuator and an electric parking brake actuator, each of which is operable independently of the other. Each of the actuators are arranged for actuation against a second side of the first brake pad for displacing the first brake pad away from the first mounting portion and into engagement with the disc brake rotor. The hydraulic service brake and the electric parking brake actuators have positions of actuation on the second side of the first brake pad at positions spaced apart.

Disc brake caliper

A drum brake assembly which includes a rotatable drum having a radially inner drum braking surface and a brake shoe of single piece construction and of generally circular form mounted within the drum and against a backing plate. The brake shoe includes friction lining and at least one flange projecting radially inwardly. The brake shoe has positioning arrangement for positioning the brake shoe within the drum in an inoperative condition against lateral movement into engagement with the drum braking surface, to provide for complete clearance between the friction lining and the drum braking surface in the inoperative condition. The positioning arrangement includes an engagement member for engagement with an abutment arrangement. The abutment arrangement includes radially inner and outer abutments and the engagement member is arranged for engagement with the radially inner abutment in the inoperative condition of the assembly to position the friction lining away from the drum braking surface, and with the radially outer abutment when the brake shoe is radially expanded to the operative condition of the assembly.

Drum brake assembly

An electric brake actuator (), including a rotatable member () and electric drive means () for driving the rotatable member () to rotate. The rotatable member () is arranged for engagement with a continuous cable () that in use extends between and in connection with a pair of brake assemblies () that are operable when actuated to apply a braking load to brake a wheel associated with each respective brake assembly. The rotatable member () is arranged such that it is operable to pull the cable () on each side of the rotatable member () upon rotation of the rotatable member () in a first direction, for actuation of the brake assemblies (), and to extend the cable () on each side of the rotatable member () upon rotation of the rotatable member () in a second and reverse direction.

Electric brake actuating assembly and actuator

A drum brake assembly including a rotatable drum having a radially inner braking surface and a brake shoe of single piece construction and of generally circular form mounted within the drum against a backing plate. The brake shoe has a radially outer face and a friction lining mounted thereon in facing relationship to the radially inner braking surface. Actuator having actuated brake on and released brake off conditions and being operable in the actuated condition to diametrically expand the brake shoe is provided. Positioners are also provided for positioning the brake shoe within the drum when the actuator is in the brake off condition to provide for complete clearance between the outer face of the friction lining and the inner braking surface of the drum. A grinding jig for grinding friction lining is also provided. A brake assembly having a connector for connecting the brake shoe to the backing plate.

Brake assembly

A brake shoe assembly ( ) for a drum brake, the brake shoe assembly being a single-piece construction and including a brake shoe ( ) of generally circular form having two separate and opposed ends ( ), and defining a pair of friction lining mounting sections ( ) disposed on opposite sides of the brake shoe ( ). The friction lining mounting sections ( ) have a T-shaped cross-sectional form defining an arcuate, radially outer platform ( ) for mounting a friction lining ( ) and a radially inwardly extending web ( ). The brake shoe ( ) including hinge means ( ) between the lining mounting sections ( ), facilitating pivoting movement of the lining mounting sections ( ), to alter the separation between the brake ends ( ) between a brake operative condition in which in use, the friction lining ( ) engages a braking surface of a drum to which the brake shoe assembly ( ) is fitted, and a brake inoperative condition in which there is no such engagement. Brake shoe and brake assembly

An adjuster strut ( ) for use in a drum brake assembly. The adjuster strut ( ) has an adjustable elongate extent with first and second engagement means ( ) disposed at opposite ends thereof for engaging opposed braking members ( ) of a brake assembly. The first engagement means ( ) is arranged for receipt and support within an inwardly opening slot ( ) formed in one of the braking members ( ) and includes an end face ( ) for abutting engagement with the inner end wall (  ) of the slot opening ( ). The first engagement means ( ) further includes a first channel ( ) extending rearwardly from the face ( ), for receiving therein an edge or wall portion (hereinafter an &ldquo;edge portion&rdquo;) defining the slot opening ( ). Adjuster strut

A drum brake assembly, adjuster strut ( ) being adjustable and having axially extended and retracted conditions. The strut includes means ( ) for engaging braking members ( ), a rotatable member ( ) rotatable about the lengthwise axis of the strut, an axially movable member ( ) movable upon forward rotation of member ( ) to lengthen the strut in the retracted condition, and biasing means ( ) for biasing the strut toward the axially extended condition upon radial expansion of the brake shoes during brake actuation. The rotatable member has a face ( ) and a cam surface ( ) formed thereon and defining teeth formed in a ring. The strut includes an arm ( ) which is mounted to pivot and an end portion ( ) biased into engagement with the surface ( ). In use, the arm causes the rotatable ( ) member to rotate in a forward direction during axial extension of the strut.

An electric brake actuator for actuating a brake arrangement. The actuator includes an electric drive unit ( ) and a load multiplier ( ). the electric drive unit ( ) is in cable connection through a first cable unit ( ) with the load multiplier and the load multiplier ( ) is arranged for cable connection through a second cable unit ( ) with the brake arrangement. Whereby the electric drive unit ( ) is operable to apply a load to the load multiplier ( ) through the first cable unit ( ) and the load multiplier ( ) is operable to multiply the load for application to the brake arrangement through the second cable unit ( ).

Electric brake actuator

A disc brake assembly is disclosed which incorporates a disc which includes radially inner and outer portions ( ) which are separated by a gap . Two pad assemblies ( ) are located on respective sides of the disc and are interconnected by a draw bar which extends through the gap and is connected to a piston cylinder assembly. Actuation of the piston cylinder assembly imparts a force to the pad assemblies through the draw bar which causes them to move either towards or away from the disc to thereby effect actuation and release of the brake assembly The draw bar is rotatable about its axis and is releaseably coupled to the outboard pad assembly so as to be operative to move between an engaged configuration with the pad assembly to a released configuration on rotation about the draw bar axis.

Disc brake assembly

A disc brake assembly is disclosed which incorporates a disc,which includes radially inner and outer portions (,) which are separated by a gap,. Two pad assemblies (,) are located on respective sides of the disc and are interconnected by a draw bar,which extends through the gap and is connected to a piston cylinder assembly. Actuation of the piston cylinder assembly imparts a force to the pad assemblies through the draw bar which causes them to move either towards or away from the disc to thereby effect actuation and release of the brake assembly. The draw bar is rotatable about its axis,and is releaseably coupled to the outboard pad assembly,so as to be operative to move between an engaged configuration with the pad assembly to a released configuration on rotation about the draw bar axis.

Cable slack adjuster

A disc brake assembly (1) of the kind including a caliper (6) and two pad assemblies (3, 4), each of which is operable to engage a respective opposite side of a brake disc (5) when the brake assembly is installed on a vehicle. The caliper includes a housing (8) having a cylinder formed therein, and a piston which carries one of the pad assemblies (3) is slidable within that cylinder. The caliper (6) also has a bridge (7) which is connected to the housing (8) and which carries the other pad assembly (4). A mounting arm (12, 13) extends generally transverse relative to the axis of the caliper cylinder and is deflectable relative to the associated support (2) in the general direction of that axis so as to allow the pad assemblies (3, 4) to move towards and away from their respective adjacent sides of the disc (5). The arm (12, 13) is resistant to deflection however, in at least one direction transverse to the cylinder axis and functions to hold the aforementioned combination in an operative position relative to the disc (5) when in use.
