A cutting tool comprises a substrate and a coating film disposed on the substrate, wherein the coating film comprises a first layer and a second layer; the first layer has a hardness Hof 25 GPa or more and 40 GPa or less; the second layer has a hardness Hsatisfying 0.5×H≤H≤0.9×H; and at least one of a ratio I/(I+I+I) of Iof (200) plane to a sum of X-ray diffraction intensity Iof (200) plane, X-ray diffraction intensity Iof (111) plane, and X-ray diffraction intensity Iof (220) plane of the coating film, a ratio I/(I+I+I) of Ito the sum, and a ratio I/(I+I+I) of Ito the sum is 0.45 or more.

A cutting tool includes a substrate; and a coating film, wherein the coating film includes a multilayer structure layer having first unit layer(s) and second unit layer(s), the first unit layer(s) and the second unit layer(s) are alternately layered, under a condition X-ray diffraction intensities of different planes in the multilayer structure layer are respectively represented by I, I, and I, the following formula 0.6≤I/{I+I+I}, the first unit layer(s) has a NaCl-like structure in which an interplanar spacing din a c-axis direction is larger than an interplanar spacing din an a-axis direction, the second unit layer(s) has a NaCl-like structure in which an interplanar spacing din the c-axis direction is smaller than an interplanar spacing din the a-axis direction, and the following formulas are satisfied as well 1≤d/d≤1.02, 1.01≤d/d≤1.05, and d/d<d/d.

A cutting tool includes a substrate and a diamond layer that covers the substrate. The diamond layer includes a rake face and a flank continuous to the rake face. A ridgeline between the rake face and the flank forms a cutting edge. The substrate includes a top surface opposed to the rake face. When viewed in a direction perpendicular to the top surface, the rake face includes a plurality of protrusions. In a cross-section perpendicular to a direction of extension of the cutting edge, each of the plurality of protrusions includes an inclined portion and a curvature portion continuous to the inclined portion. In the cross-section, a height of the inclined portion in the direction perpendicular to the top surface increases as a distance from the cutting edge increases.

A rotary cutting tool includes a main body and a shank. The main body has a tip end. The shank is continuous with the main body on the side opposite to the tip end. The main body is provided with a first cutting edge having a positive twist angle, and a second cutting edge having a negative twist angle and separated from the first cutting edge. Each of the first cutting edge and the second cutting edge extends continuously from the tip end to the shank.

A rotary cutting tool includes a base material, a first diamond layer, and a second diamond layer. The base material includes a head portion, a body portion, and a shoulder portion defining a boundary portion between the head portion and the body portion. The first diamond layer covers the body portion and the shoulder portion and exposes the head portion. The second diamond layer covers the head portion, is provided on the first diamond layer in the shoulder portion, and does not cover the body portion.

Rotary cutting tool and method of manufacturing the same

A composite sintered material contains cubic boron nitride particles and binder particles. The composite sintered material contains 40 vol % or more and 80 vol % or less of the cubic boron nitride particles. The binder particles contain TiCN particles. The composite sintered material shows a first peak belonging to a (200) plane of the TiCN particles in a range in which a Bragg angle 2&#x3b8; is 41.7&#xb0; or more and 42.6&#xb0; or less in an X-ray diffraction spectrum measured using a Cu-K&#x3b1; ray as a ray source.

Composite sintered material and surface-coated boron nitride sintered material tool

A surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool includes a cubic boron nitride sintered body and a coating film formed thereon. The coating film includes an A layer and a C layer. The A layer is formed of TiMaCN(where Ma is one or more of Cr, Nb and W; 0&#x2264;xa&#x2264;0.7; 0&#x2264;ya&#x2264;1). The C layer is formed of AlCrMcN (where Mc is one or more of Ti, V and Si; 0.2&#x2264;xc&#x2264;0.8; 0&#x2264;yc&#x2264;0.6; 0.2&#x2264;xc+yc&#x2264;0.8). The A layer is formed on an outermost surface of the coating film or between the outermost surface of the coating film and the C layer. A distance between the outermost surface of the coating film and an upper surface of the C layer is 0.1 &#x3bc;m or more and 1.0 &#x3bc;m or less.

Surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool

A surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool is provided, in which at least a cutting edge portion includes a cubic boron nitride sintered body and a coating film formed on a surface of the cubic boron nitride sintered body. The coating film contains Si and includes a B layer formed by alternately stacking one or more of each of a B1 compound layer and a B2 compound layer that are different in composition. A ratio between an average thickness tof the B1 compound layers and an average thickness tof the B2 compound layers is defined as t/tthat satisfies a relation of 0.5&#x3c;t/t&#x2264;10.

A cutting tool includes a cutting insert that is held in a holder in a detachable manner. The cutting insert has a substantially regular quadrangular shape in plan view and includes four round corners. The cutting insert is formed of CBN sinter as a whole. The cutting insert includes two principal surfaces that are upper and lower surfaces opposite to each other, and four side surfaces that are arranged so as to connect the principal surfaces to each other. A boundary portion (ridge line portion) between each of the principal surfaces and each of the side surfaces forms a cutting edge. In a central portion of each of the side surfaces of the cutting insert, a groove for absorbing a crack, having a substantially V-shape in cross section, is formed all around the cutting insert so as to be recessed with respect to the side surfaces.

A surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool is provided, in which a cutting edge portion includes a compound sintered body and a coating layer. The compound sintered body includes cBN particles. The compound sintered body includes 45-80 vol % of cBN particles. A first particle size distribution curve of the cBN particles has one or more peaks in a range in which a particle size is 0.1-0.7 &#x3bc;m. A second particle size distribution curve of the cBN particles has a first peak having a maximum peak height in a range in which the particle size is 2.0-7.0 &#x3bc;m. An integral value ratio (I/I&#xd7;100) is 1-20, in the second particle size distribution curve, the integral value Ibeing in the range in which the particle size is 0.1-0.7 &#x3bc;m, and the integral value Ibeing in an entire range.

A cutting tool includes a base material and a coating formed on the base material. The base material is a sintered body containing 30 to 80% by volume of cubic boron nitride, and a binder. The surface in contact with the coating, of the base material, has a plurality of convex portions made of the cubic boron nitride and a plurality of concave portions made of the binder. A surface roughness Rsub of the surface in contact with the base material, is 0.1 to 0.4 &#x3bc;m. A surface roughness Rsurf of an outermost surface of the coating is 0 to 0.15 &#x3bc;m. A surface roughness Rasurf of the outermost surface of the coating is 0 to 0.1 &#x3bc;m. The surface roughness Rsub of the surface in contact with the coating, of the base material, is greater than the surface roughness Rsurf of the outermost surface of the coating.

A surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool is provided, in which at least a cutting edge portion includes a cubic boron nitride sintered body and a coating film formed on a surface of the cubic boron nitride sintered body. The coating film includes an A layer and a B layer. The A layer is formed of columnar crystals each having a particle size of 10 nm or more and 400 nm or less. The B layer is formed of columnar crystals each having a particle size of 5 nm or more and 70 nm or less. The B layer is formed by alternately stacking two or more compound layers having different compositions. The compound layers each have a thickness of 0.5 nm or more and 300 nm or less.

A surface-coated sintered body includes a sintered body of cubic boron nitride (cBN) and a surface coating layer formed on a surface thereof, the sintered body of cBN containing 20 to 99.5% by volume of cBN and a binder, the surface coating layer including an adhesion layer and at least one hard coating layer, the adhesion layer being a metal layer containing at least W and being formed to cover a portion of the surface of the sintered body of cBN, the hard coating layer being formed to cover the sintered body of cBN and the adhesion layer, a ratio of cBN particles in contact with the adhesion layer to a total number of cBN particles in contact with the adhesion layer or the hard coating layer in the surface of the sintered body of cBN being 0.01 to 20%.

Surface-coated sintered body

There is provided a surface-coated sintered body formed of a sintered body of cubic boron nitride with a sufficiently adhesive surface coating layer thereon. The present surface-coated sintered body includes a sintered body of cubic boron nitride and a surface coating layer formed on a surface thereof, the sintered body of cubic boron nitride including 20-99.5% by volume of cubic boron nitride and a binder, the surface coating layer including an adhesion layer and at least one hard coating layer, the adhesion layer being a metal layer including at least W, and being formed to cover a surface of the sintered body of cubic boron nitride, the hard coating layer being formed to coat the adhesion layer, the adhesion layer being configured of an amorphous state and/or ultrafine particles having an average particle size equal to or smaller than 5 nm.
