The formation of deposits on the injectors of gasoline direct injection engines controlled by combustion in said engine of a fuel comprising a gasoline containing about 12 to 65 vol % aromatics when the aromatics present in the fuel are attributable to the presence in the fuel of light fluid cat cracker stream product, reformate or a mixture thereof, preferably predominantly reformate.

Method for controlling deposit formation in gasoline direct injection engine by use of a fuel having particular compositional characteristics

Polymeric amine sulfur-containing heterocyclic reaction products have been found to be effective antiwear and corrosion inhibiting additives for fuels, including gasolines, and lubricants with excellent high temperature decomposing, cleanliness and detergency/dispersancy features.

Polyalkylene amine coupled carboxylates are effective multifunctional additives, providing cleanliness to fuels and lubricants as well as friction-reducing and corrosion-inhibiting properties.

Polyalkylene amine coupled heterocyclic compounds are effective multifunctional additives, providing cleanliness to fuels and lubricants as well as anti-wear, friction-modifying, thermal and oxidative stabilizing properties. The beneficial effects of the product of the instant invention apparently result from an internal synergism between the polyalkylene amine groups and the heterocyclic groups.

The invention relates to lubricant and fuel additives having antiwear and friction reducing properties. The invention also relates to compositions of oils with viscosities appropriate for lubricants, greases produced therefrom, and fuels and methods for making these compositions. Described in this invention are products of nitrogen heterocycles, such as benzotriazole and tolyltriazole, with amines, such as alkyl amines, aliphatic diamines, alicyclic amines, heterocyclic amines, propylene amines, and aliphatic etheramines, that are linked using carbonyl compounds (e.g., aldehyde, ketone or glyoxal). Additionally, products generated by the reaction of carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid generating compounds (e.g., salts or esters) with carbonyl (e.g., aldehyde, ketone or glyoxal) coupled nitrogen heterocycles and amines, including those described above, are also included in this invention. These products can be used in fuels and lubricants to produce improved antiwear and friction reducing properties.

Friction modifiers and antiwear additives for fuels and lubricants

A fuel additive is the reaction product of an intermediate reaction product of a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride and an aminosalicylic acid, preferably a 4-aminosalicylic acid. The intermediate is reacted with an aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde and an alkylenepolyamine preferably tetraethylenepentamine. The reaction product is post reacted with a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride which can be the same or different as the hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride of the intermediate. The additive has dispersant and detergent properties and is effective in liquid hydrocarbon or liquid oxygenated fuels or mixtures of the said fuels.

A fuel additive having detergency, solubility and thermal stability is a mixture of polyalkenyl succinimides, polyalkylenes, i.e., polyisobutylene or polypropylene, an ester and a polyether; namely a polybutylene oxide, polypropylene oxide or polybutylene/polypropylene oxide copolymer, and an optional amount of a mineral oil or synthetic oil.

Organosulfur adducts as multifunctional additives for lubricating oils

Epoxy functionalized polyalpha-olefin lubricants compositions are prepared with superior properties by epoxidizing the olefinic bond of oligomers prepare by oligomerizing C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 alpha-olefins with reduced valence state chromium catalyst on silica support. The invention encompasses a product of reaction made by epoxidizing C.sub.30 + polyalpha-olefin oligomeric hydrocarbon lubricant having a branch ratio of less than 0.19 and pour point below -15.degree. C. in the presence of an epoxidizing amount of an epoxidizing agent wherein said product comprises a mixture of 2-dialkyl oxirane and 1,2-dialkyl oxirane having between an average of C.sub.30 and C.sub.1000 carbon atoms, said mixture having a branch ratio of less than 0.19 and pour point below -15.degree. C. The invention further encompasses blends and additive compositions of the novel epoxidizing polyalpha-olefins.
