An arrangement for supplying high pressure fuel to a plurality of fuel injectors includes a housing defining a fuel chamber. The chamber is provided with a flow inlet from a high pressure fuel source and forms a first portion of flow path of the fuel, the chamber being fluidly connected to a conduit providing a second portion of flow path. The conduit has a plurality of outlets adapted to provide flow of high pressure fuel from the chamber via the conduit to a corresponding plurality of injectors via respective first outlet flow conduits. The second portion of flow path is substantially narrower than the first flow path, and includes a pressure sensor located in or adjacent to the conduit.

Fuel rail for injection system

A fuel injection equipment for an internal combustion engine is piloted by a central electronic unit, the equipment includes a piloted low pressure pump drawing the fuel from a low pressure tank and sending the fuel toward a piloted inlet valve controlling the inlet of a high pressure pump which pressurizes the fuel and sends it pressurized toward a manifold to which is connected at least one injector. The equipment also includes a high pressure accumulator, distinct from the manifold, and a piloted high pressure valve in fluid communication between the outlet of the high pressure pump and the manifold so that the high pressure accumulator stores and delivers pressurized fuel to the manifold.

Hybrid fuel injection equipment

A method of operating an internal combustion engine, wherein the engine is operated in an injector learning mode in which an injection parameter associated with a nominal fuel quantity of a pilot injection is learned, includes performing a learning pilot injection based on a candidate value for the injection parameter to influence injection of the nominal fuel quantity and determining a parameter indicative of the actually injected fuel quantity based on the in-cylinder pressure during combustion of the learning pilot injection. The learning pilot injection is operated at an early timing such that combustion thereof complete occurs within a learning window positioned before combustion TDC and before the next combustion starts. The pressure is measured over the learning window, so that the determination of the parameter indicative of the actually injected fuel quantity takes into account essentially the entire combustion event of the learning pilot injection.

Method of operating an internal combustion engine

A method of determining whether a cylinder in an engine system comprising a plurality of cylinders is ready for injection/ignition, the method comprising: monitoring the in-cylinder pressure of each of the plurality of cylinders within the engine system; determining a pressure related parameter for each cylinder within the engine system; wherein, in the event that the pressure related parameter in a given cylinder exceeds a first threshold, the method further comprises performing a diagnostic test in order to determine whether the given cylinder is ready for injection/ignition.

Injection control method

A fuel injector comprising a valve needle, engagable with the seating to control fuel flow through a fuel outlet, the valve needle having a thrust surface oriented such that the application of fuel under pressure thereto applies a force to the valve needle urging the valve needle away from the seating. The fuel injector also comprises a valve member for controlling fuel pressure within a control chamber and a piston member slidable within a bore and defining, with the bore, the control chamber. The piston member is exposed to fuel pressure within the control chamber and is arranged to transmit a force applied by the fuel pressure to the valve needle. The piston member has an effective surface area exposed to the fuel pressure which is greater than that of the thrust surface so as to urge the valve needle towards the seating.
