An apparatus is employed for drying liquid, preferably ink, on a medium, which entails heating air and blowing it across the surface of the medium at high velocity. The heated air is recaptured and recirculated resulting in lower energy usage for heating and a reduced relative humidity of drying air to enhance drying. Various structural configurations are disclosed but each has a common feature of creating an air dam at the point of entry of a medium along a media path and at the exit point. The use of a baffle adjacent to the medium path acts as a deflector for the heated air to distribute it across the medium surface at high velocity and also creates ports for expressing and recirculating heated air.

Method and apparatus for drying liquid on printed media

A wire dot matrix print head suitable for a low cost computer printer is described. The print head incorporates a one piece armature constructed of thin high strength sheet metal. The armature has a plurality of rigid radial arms radiating inwardly from a torsionally flexible periphery. Each of the rigid radial arms has an integral pair of flanges for adding rigidity, and an attached moving core of magnetically permeable material. Each of the rigid radial arms is connected to the periphery at an arm base. Each of the rigid radial arm bases is provided with a slight bend. The combination of torsional action of the flexible periphery acting at the bend and a fixed clamping action of a cap at intermediate portion of the flexible periphery provides a biasing force to each of the radial arms.

A convenience package for drop-on-demand ink drop recording devices which includes drop generating means for projecting ink droplets to a recording medium, filter means, and the ink supply, all of which are quickly interchangeable, and intended for disposal after the ink supply is exhausted. The cartridge is a compact, inexpensive arrangement that is adaptable to multi-nozzle and multi-color requirements.

Recording arrangement in which a row of ink jet nozzles is inclined with respect to the relative motion of a recording surface to permit the variously and selectively charged drops from each nozzle to be deflected by a single pair of planar electrostatic deflection plates common to all nozzles and parallel to the row so that each nozzle is capable of producing marks at regularly spaced locations along a plurality of parallel rows. Also disclosed is a method of determining the angle of inclination. The inclination angle, nozzle spacing, and deflection levels are preferably chosen so that marks can be placed at all possible data points by a single row of nozzles in a single recording pass. The disclosed method also provides for recording in either direction, the use of two or more parallel nozzle rows, and for the interlacing of drop marks at the recording surface.

Nozzle for creating perturbations in a pressurized liquid filament issuing from an orifice in the nozzle in which the perturbations are caused by varying the cross-section of the orifice to produce corresponding variations in the cross-section of the liquid filament and induce subsequent breakup of the filament into a succession of drops.
