A seal assembly for a rotating drum in which a rotating member is secured relative to the drum for rotation therewith. An air chamber is provided adjacent the drum for introducing sealing air into the drum. At least one seal ring is secured to the rotating member for rotation therewith, and a seal member is disposed in an air chamber and is biased into sealing engagement with the seal ring by the air pressure in the chamber.

Sealing assembly for a ball mill pulverizer

A seal assembly for a rotating drum in which a trunnion is secured relative to the drum for rotation therewith and is supported by a bearing assembly. At least one seal ring engages a shoulder of the trunnion in an area adjacent to the bearing surfaces of the trunnion and the bearing assembly. The seal ring is laterally held loosely in place by at least one retaining ring and is biased against the trunnion by a spring loaded cable. A lubricant is injected between the trunnion and the bearing assembly and collects in at least one reservoir. The lubricant is absorbed by the seal ring from the reservoir through a wick.

An improved splitter for use with a coal-fired furnace utilizing a low load burner in which a splitter is provided in the main conduit leading from the pulverizer for splitting the stream of coal and air into two separate streams which are then fed to separate nozzles communicating with the furnace. The splitter includes a damper assembly defining a gap which can be adjustable and including a plurality of projections which prevent coal slippage along the damper blade.

An adjustable classifier for the separation of fluid-suspended solid particles in industrial processes and by which the relative proportion of acceptably fine and unacceptably coarse solid particles may be regulated. Adjustability is achieved in an otherwise static classifier structure in which a fluid stream of multi-sized particles is passed through a curved path, by the provision of interleaved fingers movable from a retracted inactive position against an outer boundary surface defining the curved path to an extended position into the stream to re-entrain all particles moved against the outer boundary surface back into the fluid stream. Fine particles so re-entrained will pass from the classifier and relatively coarse particles will be rejected by centrifugal action. The invention also contemplates an adjustable plate member by which the velocity of the fluid stream may be regulated independently of the aforementioned fingers.

Adjustable particle classifier

A combustion system and method for a coal-fired furnace in which a splitter is provided in the main conduit leading from the pulverizer for splitting the stream of coal and air into two separate streams. One stream from the splitter is connected to a separator in which a quantity of air is separated from the mixture of air and coal. A low load burner assembly is provided which includes a first nozzle connected to the separator for discharging the bulk of the coal flow and some air into the furnace, and a second nozzle connected to the same separator for discharging the bulk of the air from the separator into the furnace. The other stream from the splitter is connected to a third nozzle which discharges its mixture of air and coal into the furnace to provide high load capability.

Combustion system and method for a coal-fired furnace utilizing a low

A burner assembly in which an inlet is located at one end of an annular passage for receiving fuel, and an outlet is located at the other end of the passage for discharging the fuel. A divider cone is disposed within the annular passage for dividing the stream of fuel passing through the passage into two parallel coaxial streams and additional secondary air is introduced into the outer stream. A plurality of V-shaped members are disposed within the annular passage for splitting up the outer stream of fuel so that, upon ignition of said fuel, a plurality of flame patterns are formed. A register assembly is provided which includes an enclosure for receiving air and a divider for direction the air from the enclosure towards the outlet in two parallel paths extending around the burner. Register vanes are disposed in each of the paths for regulating the spin and/or quantity of air flowing through the paths.

Dual register, split stream burner assembly with divider cone

A burner nozzle for feeding the combustion zone of a vapor generator with a mixture of pulverized fossil fuel and air in a controlled, turbulent flow. The fuel pipe for the burner nozzle has a relatively small diameter so that a relatively small amount of primary air is sufficient to carry the fuel to the burner nozzle. An atomizer is fitted to the outlet of the fuel pipe for introducing atomizing air in a generally tangential direction relative to the axial flow of the fuel. The air creates turbulence to swirl the fuel and distribute it in a controlled manner to provide for even burning of the fuel in the combustion zone. A pipe of smaller diameter may be concentrically positioned within the fuel pipe so that alternative fuels, such as gas and oil, may also be efficiently used with the burner nozzle.

Burner nozzle

A material handling system for distributing granular solids from a single source to a plurality of distribution points in which a plurality of selectively adjustable leveling bars control the thickness of a layer of material on a conveyor, and a plurality of arcuate-shaped guide chutes divert the material from the conveyor to the plurality of distribution points. The guide chutes are positioned longitudinally along the sides of the conveyor and their lateral positions are selectively adjustable relative thereto. The cooperative relationship among the height of the leveling bars, the lateral position of the guide chutes, and the speed of the conveyor determines the amount of material diverted from the conveyor to the individual distribution points. According to an alternate arrangement a constant thickness of the material layer is maintained and the selective position of the guide chutes is used to control the amount of material diverted.

Multiple point feeder

A burner for use in a vapor generator having an outlet feeding the combustion zone of the generator with a mixture of fuel and air in a controlled turbulent flow. The housing for the burner has a relatively small diameter so that a relatively small amount of primary air is sufficient to carry the fuel to the burner nozzle. At least one atomizer is fitted in an opening of the burner housing for introducing atomizing air in a generally tangential direction relative to the axial flow of the fuel. The air creates turbulence so as to swirl the fuel and distribute same in a controlled manner to provide for even burning of the fuel in the combustion zone.
