A system includes a detection module and a control module in communication with the detection module. The detection module includes at least one sensor configured to detect vulnerable road users (VRUs) on or adjacent to a road. The control module is configured to receive data indicative of a detected VRU, determine a location of the detected VRU relative to the vehicle based on the received data, and in response to determining the location of the detected VRU, temporarily flicker an intensity of light output from a first active headlight on a driver side of the vehicle and/or a second active headlight on a passenger side of the vehicle to warn the driver of the location of the detected VRU relative to the vehicle. Other example systems and methods are also disclosed.

Methods and systems for providing trailer guidance

A dimension calculation system in a host vehicle for dynamically calculating a vehicle dimension using solar shadow information is disclosed. The system is configured to: calculate solar position and an expected vehicle shadow based on geocode location, time and vehicle dynamics; detect an actual vehicle shadow in an image from a vehicle camera; compare the actual vehicle shadow to an expected vehicle shadow; determine a dimension profile and max height point for a vehicle plus vehicle cargo based on a comparison of the actual vehicle shadow to the expected vehicle shadow; calculate a confidence level for the dimension profile and max height point for the vehicle plus cargo; and use the dimension profile and max height point to provide one or more dimension notifications when the confidence level for the dimension profile and max height point for the vehicle plus cargo are above a first threshold level.

Vehicles and methods for augmenting rearview displays for vehicles are provided. An exemplary method is provided for augmenting a rearview display for a vehicle having a gate moveable between a closed configuration and an opened configuration. The method includes collecting dynamic pixel images of an area behind the vehicle using a camera connected to the vehicle. Further, the method includes, in response to a command, displaying graphical overlays to the collected dynamic pixel images on a display screen, via a processor, wherein the graphical overlays depict an outline of the gate and/or projected path of the gate in the opened configuration.

A hitch system for automatically coupling a hitch accessory that has an attachment bar assembly with a hitch receiver. The attachment bar assembly includes a housing bar that is tubular, with a pin-hole through the housing bar. A pin-lever is pivotably mounted in the housing bar and includes a pin configured to retract into the housing bar and to extend out of the pin-hole. A ramp-component is disposed in the housing bar and is engageable with the pin-lever. An actuator selectively moves the ramp-component to retract the pin into the housing bar and to extend the pin out of the housing bar, by selectively enabling pivoting of the pin-lever.

A system for predicting a door opening event of a vehicle includes an identity recognition device associated with an individual occupant profile. The system also includes one or more controllers in electronic communication with the identity recognition device, where the one or more controllers store one or more individual occupant profiles in memory of the one or more controllers that includes historical occupant behavior exhibited by one or more occupants associated with the identity recognition device. The one or more controllers execute instructions to determine a predetermined condition has occurred, where the predetermined condition indicates the vehicle is undergoing a potential engine off event. The one or more controllers determine a door opening event probability value based on at least the gear position probability value and the engine off probability value.

System for predicting a door opening event for a side door of a vehicle

A towing configuration of a vehicle coupled to a trailer may be evaluated by rolling a tire of the coupled vehicle and trailer over a compressible region of a pressure vessel filled with a hydraulic fluid. A peak pressure of the hydraulic fluid as the tire rolls over the compressible region of the pressure vessel may be determined. The tire load may be determined based upon the peak pressure. Based at least in part on the tire load, a determination may be made whether the towing configuration satisfies a predetermined set of criteria.

Vehicle and trailer load determination

Systems are provided for assisting in towing a trailer by a lead vehicle. A wheeled tow assist unit couples between the lead vehicle and the trailer. A drive unit onboard the tow assist unit drives the wheels in response to a force between the trailer and the tow assist unit.
