Embodiments of a receiver impairment estimation and correction system and method that can be implemented in a low intermediate frequency receiver system are disclosed. In one embodiment, among others, a method for operating a receiver is disclosed that comprises receiving a radio frequency signal, downconverting the radio frequency signal to a downconverted signal comprising an in-phase component and quadrature-phase component, buffering the downconverted signal in a memory, estimating receiver impairments associated with the in-phase component and the quadrature-phase component for a defined time period, and compensating for the receiver impairments for each defined time period.

Method and system for receiver impairment estimation and correction

A receiver for a multi-mode wireless device is provided. The receiver has multiple analog RF front end modules, with each module supporting a different mode of operation. The receiver has a single digital backend module for generating a digital baseband signal. A controller selects one of the available RF modules to use, and the selected RF module provides an analog communication signal to the digital backend. Each available mode has an associated set of factors. When a particular mode is selected, the set of factors associated with the selected mode is provided to the digital backend. The digital backend uses these factors to adjust the processing characteristics of its components, such as its analog to digital converter, filters, and gain controller. In this way, the single digital backend is adaptable to the requirements of each of the available radio modes.

A cordless telephone system capable of generating a secure wireless link includes both a handset and a base station. The handset includes a control circuit, a transmitter and a receiver coupled to the control circuit along with a keypad also coupled to the control circuit. The base station includes a control circuit, a code generation circuit coupled to the control circuit, a display coupled to the control circuit for displaying a code generated by the code generation circuit, and a transmitter and receiver coupled to the control circuit.

A method and apparatus for indicating message status in a wireless communication system comprising a base station configured to communicate with at least one mobile unit over a wireless interface. The mobile unit includes an indicator having first and second human perceptible states, with the first state indicating a lack of message waiting condition, and the second state indicating a message waiting condition. The base station monitors communications from a messaging system. When a communication is received indicating message status or a change in message status, the base station transmits a command regarding message status to the mobile unit over the wireless interface. In response, the mobile unit maintains or changes the state of the indicator to reflect the message status as determined by the command.
