A subsea production tree has an external annular profile formed on an upper portion of the tree. A vertical passage extending from a lower end of the tree to an upper end of the tree for communicating with a string of tubing extending into the well. A lateral passage in the tree extending from the vertical passage. A flow path in fluid communication with the lateral passage extends laterally from the tree, the flow path having an upward facing receptacle. An adapter lands on the upper portion of the tree and connects to the profile, the adapter having a passage that registers with the vertical passage of the tree while the adapter lands on the tree. A flow interface device mounts to and lands with the adapter, the flow interface device having an inlet conduit and an outlet conduit, one of the conduits being connected to the passage in the adapter, the other of the conduits stabbing into sealing engagement with the receptacle as the adapter lands on the tree.

A subsea well assembly has a string of casing with perforations leading to a producing zone and perforations leading to an injection zone. A string of production tubing extends into the casing in communication with the producing formation. A barrier separates the interior of the tubing from the injection zone formation. A subsea Christmas tree is located at the upper end of the well. A subsea separator is connected to a production outlet of the tree for separating waste fluid from the well fluid. A subsea injection pump pumps waste fluid from the separator back to the tree and into the injection formation.

Subsea well separation and reinjection system

The wellhead assembly has a production tree with multiple safety barriers. A tubing hanger lands and seals in the bore of the tree. The tubing hanger has a lateral production flow passage that registers with a lateral passage in the tree. A tubing annulus passage extends upward from the tubing annulus to an exterior port. A second portion of the tubing annulus passage extends upward from the exterior port into the bore above the tubing hanger seal. The external port may be used for gas injection. If so, two closure members are located in the upper portion of the tubing annulus above the seal. The upper closure member may be either a check valve or a removable plug.

Production tree with multiple safety barriers

A metal seal for a wellhead assembly has upper and lower legs extending in opposite directions from each other and a rib extending radially outward from a junction of the legs. A first conical band on the upper leg extends uninterrupted from the rib a selected distance toward a tip of the upper leg. A second conical band on the upper leg extends uninterrupted from the tip of the upper leg toward the first conical band. An annular recess is located between the first and second conical bands. The lower leg also has two conical seal bands separated by a recess.

Gasket with multiple sealing surfaces

A drill bit guide is mounted in a wellhead in place of a wear bushing. The bit guide is capable of guiding strings and tools through the wellhead without damage to the wellhead or string while drilling. In one version of the bit guide, a pair of linear actuators radially extend and retract separate halves of the bit guide to conform to the size of the object located between them. In another version of the bit guide, a set of interlocking arms and wear bars are articulated to form a circular opening having a variable inner diameter. A drill string may be lowered through a fully open bit guide or landed on top of a fully closed bit guide. The bit guide also can be moved to more closely receive the drill string passing through it to prevent damage to the drill string and the wellhead.

Apparatus and method for remote adjustment of drill string centering to prevent damage to wellhead

A wellhead load ring constructed in the shape of a C-ring is pre-installed in a wellhead in a storage position that maintains full bore of the wellhead. The load ring is secured in this position by shear pins. The shear pins are sheared by a tool that pushes the load ring into an operational position where it rests on a landing shoulder of a support ring. The load ring is further secured in this position by one of several latching methods.

Wellhead load ring

A landing adapter is used to softly land a tubing hanger in the bore of a production tree. The landing adapter makes initial contact so that the tubing hanger does not have to absorb the harsh impact. The landing adapter has a hydraulic sleeve that strokes axially relative to the tubing hanger. Initially, the sleeve is extended and locked when it is run into the well so that the landing adapter can be hard-landed in the bore. When the sleeve lands in the bore, the impact is absorbed by a landing adapter buffer, not by the tubing hanger. After the hanger with the landing adapter has landed in the bore, hydraulic fluid is bled off so that the tubing hanger gradually descends axially relative to the sleeve and the tree to the retracted position. The landing adapter buffer remains in the tree after the tubing hanger is landed in the bore.

Apparatus for remote adjustment of drill string centering to prevent damage to wellhead

A drill cuttings injection system for a well with a wellhead housing and a casing hanger supported in the wellhead housing. The wellhead has an axial flow port with an upper end in communication with an outer surface of the housing and a lower end in communication with an inner surface of the housing. An injection ring is positioned on the wellhead housing and has an external port. The injection ring defines an annular gallery in communication with the upper end of the axial flow port. A cuttings injector is adapted to land on the injection ring and has a hydraulic passageway sealable to the external port through which drill cuttings can be pumped into the well.

Method and apparatus for a drill cutting injection system

A device for supplying hydraulic pressure to one or more hydraulically actuable components in a well production system and positioned within the well bore including a reservoir, and electrically powered pump, and a controller each positioned within the well bore and carried on the component. The controller operates the pump to supply fluid from the reservoir to actuate the components. Additionally, valves to route the fluid to the components and sensors to sense when the components are actuated are included.

Electric power pack for subsea wellhead hydraulic tools

A running tool is used to install a load shoulder and a wear bushing in a subsea wellhead. A subsea wellhead has a locator shoulder, and grooved upper and lower profiles. The running tool has a cylindrical wear bushing that lands on a locator shoulder provided in the bore above a grooved lower profile in a wellhead housing. The running tool also carries a load shoulder ring and a split lock ring. The installation process consists of preparing the tool before running the tool subsea. Flowby ports on the running tool remain open during installation to speed the trip-in operation. The flowby ports are closed by lowering the central mandrel after the running tool lands. Then a portion of the wear bushing is moved downward, which in turn pushes the load shoulder out into the lower grooved profile to retain the load shoulder ring and wear bushing with the wellhead.

Apparatus and method for remotely installing shoulder in subsea wellhead

A tubular wellhead member has an inner seal surface. A hydraulic passage extends through the wellhead member and terminates at a port at the seal surface. A tubing hanger having an outer mating surface lands in the wellhead member. A hydraulic line extends from a hydraulically operated downhole safety valve to a passage in the tubing hanger and terminates at a tubing hanger port. A seal is located at the tubing hanger port for sealing the junction with the tubular member port. A check valve is located within the seal to maintain the tubing hanger fluid passage closed until the tubing hanger lands in the wellhead. An adapter is employed to apply a running-in hydraulic fluid pressure to the tubing hanger hydraulic fluid passage with the check valve open. Then, the adapter closes the check valve to trap hydraulic fluid pressure in the line leading to the downhole safety valve. This pressure is sufficient to maintain the downhole safety valve in an open position during running in.

Well production system with a hydraulically operated safety valve

A subsea wellhead assembly located at the sea floor that includes a subsea wellhead and a stationary blowout preventer mounted to the subsea wellhead for controlling a well during drilling. A drill pipe defines an annulus within the stationary blowout preventer. The drill pipe extends to a rotational drive mechanism on a drilling rig at the surface. A drilling head forms a seal against a drill pipe with a rotatable inner portion. The rotatable inner portion rotates with the drill pipe and prevents drilling fluid returns from flowing up the annulus around the drill pipe and prevents drilling fluid returns from discharging onto the seabed. The drilling head is mounted on top of the stationary blowout preventer. A riser extends upward from the drilling head and extends to a floating drilling rig. The riser has a lower end that connects into the drilling head below the drill pipe seal for receiving mud-returns flowing up around the annulus of the drill pipe. The riser is offset from and parallel to the drill pipe. After drilling, the riser is used to complete the well.
