Methods and Systems for Interactive Online Language Learning in a Pandemic-aware World. An acoustic-representation-enabled method for teaching an acoustic representation corresponding to a sequence of cantillations of a Hebrew Bible verse, the method comprising: (a) computationally displaying, using a computing device, a Hebrew Bible verse, (b) computationally analyzing a Hebrew Bible verse to identify therein a sequence of cantillation symbols, (c) computationally analyzing the sequence of cantillation symbols to computationally generate a chanting acoustic representation of an ordered sequence of Hebrew Bible trope names corresponding to the sequence of cantillation symbols, (d) computationally by an acoustic-representation-enabled process, changing the pitch level of the chanting acoustic representation of the ordered sequence of Hebrew Bible trope names corresponding to the sequence of cantillation symbols, and (e) playing, using a computing device, the chanting acoustic representation of the ordered sequence of Hebrew Bible trope names corresponding to the sequence of cantillation symbols.

Methods and systems for interactive online language learning in a pandemic-aware world

Embodiments of the present application relate to language learning techniques. According to exemplary embodiments, a pronunciation dictionary and/or a verse dictionary may be provided. The pronunciation dictionary and/or verse dictionary may be used to train a student's pronunciation of words and phrases, particularly in cantillated languages. According to some embodiments, words appearing on a screen may be visually distinguished (e.g., highlighted) in a sequence of a text. The text may be made to change smoothly and continuously in a manner that allows the changes to be easily followed by a student with a disability. Further embodiments provide techniques for performing generalized forced alignment. For example, forced alignment may be performed based on a phonetic analysis, based on an analysis of pitch patterns, and/or may involve breaking a large audio file into smaller audio files on a verse-by-verse basis. Furthermore, the present application describes capabilities related to learning and searching for tropes or cantillations.

Methods and systems for remote language learning in a pandemic-aware world

A method for teaching a Hebrew Bible trope lesson, comprising: accessing, using a computing device, a symbolic representation of the Hebrew Bible trope lesson, comprising either Torah tropes or Haftorah tropes or Five Scrolls tropes, each according to a lesson plan; accessing, using a computing device, an audio recording of a human chanting the Hebrew Bible trope lesson; accessing, using a computing device, a first boundary time, denoting a word boundary within said audio recording; accessing, using a computing device, a second boundary time, denoting a word boundary within said audio recording; playing, using an electronic device, said audio recording of said human at the first boundary time, until the second boundary time; displaying the symbolic representation, said displaying comprising: visually distinguishing said symbolic representation, said visually distinguishing being synchronized with the playing of said audio recording of said human using said first boundary time and said second boundary time.

Methods and systems for teaching a hebrew bible trope lesson

A method for teaching a language, comprising: accessing, using a processor of a computer, an audio recording corresponding to a series of pitch patterns; accessing a cantillation representation of said series of pitch patterns, said cantillation representation comprising a plurality of cantillations; processing said audio recording to match the pitch patterns to the cantillations in said cantillation representation; calculating, using said processor, a start time and an end time for each of the series of cantillations as compared to said audio recording; outputting, using said processor, an aligned output representation comprising an identification of each of the cantillations, an identification of the start time for each of the cantillations, and an identification of the end time for each of the cantillations; receiving a request to play a requested pitch pattern; looking up said requested pitch pattern in said aligned output representation to retrieve one or more requested start times and one or more requested end times for said requested pitch pattern; and outputting said requested pitch pattern, said outputting comprising: playing said audio recording at the one or more requested start times until the one or more requested end times to output one or more instances of said requested pitch pattern from said audio recording, and displaying a textual representation of said audio recording, said displaying comprising: visually distinguishing a word of the textual representation to the audio recording, said visually distinguishing being performed based at least in part on said aligned output representation.

Methods and systems for language learning based on a series of pitch patterns

Method and apparatus for data migration are described herein. In one embodiment, in response to data received from an application to be written to a first storage volume, the data is written to the first storage volume and a second storage volume substantially concurrently. When the first and second storage volumes are synchronized, a switchover is performed from the first storage volume to the second storage volume, such that subsequent data received from the application is written to the second storage volume, where writing the data to the first and second storage volumes and the switchover are performed without knowledge of the application. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.
