In an ink jet printer utilizing piezo ceramic actuators to generate ink droplets, the velocity of the ink droplets is controlled by adjusting the piezoelectric effect of the actuators.

Method for velocity adjustment of ink jet nozzles in a nozzle array

A method of manufacturing a thermal print head includes the step of coating a channel 12 of a fixture 10 with a first adhesive 26. Integrated circuit packages 20 are placed in the channel 12 with heating elements 22 disposed toward the bottom 14 of the channel 12. The packages 20 are held in position by a jig 30 while the adhesive 26 is thermally activated. A groove 52 in the face of a heat sink 50 is filled with a first part 54 of a two part adhesive and the integrated circuit packages 20 coated with the second part 56 of the two part adhesive. The alignment fixture 10 is positioned over the heat sink 50 activating the two part adhesive. The temperature of the assembly is elevated causing the first adhesive 26 to release and the second adhesive 54, 56 to further cure thus securing the packages 20 to the heat sink 50. Printed circuit cables 60, 70 are soldered to the packages 20.

Method of manufacturing a thermal print head

A facsimile document scanner 10 is illustrated which includes an optical system 23 having a folded optical path 40 and an adjustable lens system 42. A test pattern 60 in the form of a plurality of alternate light and dark stripes 64, 66 is focused upon a linear photodiode array 50 mounted in an integratd circuit pack 51. The number of light and dark stripes 64, 66 is equal to the number of photodiodes in the linear photodiode array 50 across the document width. For adjustment purposes, an oscilloscope 70 is connected to a serial output from the integrated circuit pack 50 and the position of the lens system along the optical path 42 is adjusted and a corresponding adjustment is made to the pointer of the lens holder 45 within the lens housing 43 to obtain the desired image size and focus. The position of the diode array 50 is adjusted with respect to the focused image 72, 74 to obtain the maximum display amplitude.

Method and apparatus for adjusting a facsimile document scanner

A drive control system for a stepping motor having an optical disk sensor on the rotor shaft. A binary counter counts output pulses from a clock running much faster than the maximum speed expected from the optical disk. Optically-generated pulses, synchronized with the counted pulses, transfer the count from the counter into a storage register and reset the counter. The count achieved by the counter is inversely proportional to the velocity of the rotor shaft. More pulses and a higher count means a lower shaft speed. Therefore, the contents of the register is a coded measure of shaft speed. A code converter is used to determine the power input to the stepping motor to maintain a desired shaft speed. Therefore, the higher the motor speed and the lower the counter output between successive optically generated pulses, the less power is delivered to the stepping motor coils.
