A surround system includes a decoder that decodes an encoded audio data stream, a decorrelation unit that receives and decorrelates stereo signals decoded by the decoder so as to generate surround signals having a low-correlation component, an addition unit that adds high-correlation-component signals extracted from the stereo signals to the surround signals generated by the decorrelation unit, and a controller that controls addition of the high-correlation-component signals performed by the addition unit on the basis of the bit rate of the audio data stream.

Surround generation apparatus

An audio apparatus includes an input unit for inputting stereo signals in which multi-channel surround-sound signals are mixed in accordance with a predetermined algorithm and a parameter indicating encoded contents of the algorithm, a surround-sound signal generator for generating left-side surround-sound signals and right-side surround-sound signals by decorrelating left-side signals and right-side signals contained in the stereo signals, and a controller for controlling the decorrelation performed by the surround-sound signal generator based on the parameter.

Audio apparatus

An audio device capable of easily generating two or more sets of surround signals based on 2-channel stereo signals and a method for generating surround sound are provided. The audio deviceincludes: an SL signal generation sectionand a BL signal generation sectionas first surround signal generation units for receiving an L signal and an R signal as 2-channel stereo signals, extracting a component of the R signal having high correlation with the L signal, subtracting the component from the L signal, thereby generating a first surround signal; and an SR signal generation sectionand a BR signal generation sectionas second surround signal generation units for extracting a component of the L signal having high correlation with the R signal, subtracting the component from the R signal, thereby generating a second surround signal. The level of subtracting a component from the L signal or the R signal for generating the first or second surround signal is differentiated each other between the plural sets.
