Suspension polymerizing epoxy group-containing acrylic resin

An epoxy group-containing acrylic resin for a powder coating composition is a copolymer, having a weight-average molecular weight of 3000 to 20000, of a vinyl monomer mixture comprising 10 to 60% by weight of alkyl ester(s) of (meth)acrylic acid, 10 to 60% by weight of epoxy group-containing vinyl monomer(s) and other vinyl monomer(s), said epoxy group-containing acrylic resin having a mean particle diameter in the range of 80 to 800 &mgr;m, including 95% by weight or more of particles satisfying the relation of 1&lE;R/r&lE;1.2 wherein R is a long diameter and r is a short diameter of each particle, and including 1000 ppm or less of volatile components, the amount of the particles having long diameters R of less than 62 &mgr;m being 5% by weight or less, that of the particles having short diameters r of more than 1000 &mgr;m being 5% by weight or less.

A polyester resin for toner comprising an acid component containing at least one selected from the group consisting of aromatic dicarboxylic acids and their lower alkyl esters, and an alcohol component containing at least one selected from the group consisting of bisphenol A derivative diols, wherein the content of aldehyde compounds, their decomposition products and by-products in the polyester resin is no more than 200 ppm. Toner polyester resins and toners are obtained which do not generate irritating odors even upon melting and kneading during the toner production or upon heating during the copying process, which provide clear images with no haziness due to reduced light permeability of the copy material, which have a wide range of color tone reproduction, and which provide excellent image precision on copied print.

Toner resin consisting of a polymer which comprises (a) an aromatic vinyl unit, (b) an acrylic or methacrylic compound unit and (c) a polyfunctional compound unit, and which has a tetrahydrofuran insoluble content of 5-60%, a maximum peak molecular weight of no more than 20,000 in the molecular weight distribution of the tetrahydrofuran soluble portion as measured by gel permeation chromatography, and a weight average polymerization degree of no more than 180, as well as a process for its production. The resulting toner resin has an excellent fixing property, non-offsetting property, blocking resistance and image stability.

A polyester resin comprising units of a dicarboxylic acid component composed mainly of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its ester forming derivative and a diol component composed mainly of ethylene glycol and an ethylene oxide adduct of a bisphenol compound or its derivative. The resin may advantageously be used as a molding material for various moldings such as extrusion molding, blow molding, vacuum molding and injection molding.

A polyester resin comprised of (a) units derived from a terephthalic acid component and/or a isophthalic acid component, (b) 0 to 80 mole %, based on the total carboxylic acid component, of units derived from a diol component represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, and x and y are integers satisfying the requirement of 2.ltoreq.x+y.ltoreq.6, and (c) 20 to 200 mole %, based on the total carboxylic acid component, of units derived from an aliphatic diol component. The polyester has a weight average molecular weight M.sub.w of 3,000 to 20,000, a number average molecular weight M.sub.n of 1,000 to 10,000, a glass transition temperature T.sub.g of 40.degree. to 70.degree. C., and a softening temperature of 70.degree. to 130.degree. C. The polyester is valuable for a toner.

Disclosed is a crosslinked polyester resin comprised of, based on the total acid units, (a) 1 to 30 mole % of units of a trihydric or higher alcohol or units of a trivalent or higher carboxylic acid, (b) 1 to 60 mole % of units of an alicyclic diol in which at least one alcohol component is a secondary alcohol, (c) 40 to 100 mole % of units of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and (d) 40 to 99 mole % of units of a non-alicyclic diol, wherein the acid value is 0.5 to 25 mg-KOH/g, the glass transition temperature is 50.degree. to 80.degree. C., the softening temperature is not higher than 145.degree. C., the fixing-possible temperature covers a range of at least 30.degree. C., and the difference between the softening temperature and the glass transition temperature is not larger than 75.degree. C. The crosslinked polyester is used for toner for electrostatic recording.

A highly crystalline polyethylene terephthalate resin composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a polyethylene terephthalate copolymer comprising ethylene terephthalate units as the main recurring units, which is formed by copolymerizing a glycol component containing 1 to 20% by weight of a polyalkylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 500 to 20,000 and 1.2 to 15% by weight of diethylene glycol with a carboxylic acid component composed mainly of terephthalic acid, (B) 5 to 200 parts by weight of a fibrous reinforcer, (C) 0.5 to 130 parts by weight of a nucleating agent, and (D) 0.1 to 60 parts by weight of a crystallization-promoting agent. The resin composition optionally contains 2 to 100 parts by weight of an inorganic compound, 2 to 100 parts by weight of an impact strength improver, 2 to 40 parts by weight of a flame retardant, or 1 to 20 parts by weight of a flame retardant assistant. The resin composition has an improved impact strength, a high heat distortion temperature, and an excellent moldability, and gives a molded article having a good surface appearance even when molding is carried out at a low mold temperature.
