A reading device includes: plural transport rolls that transport a document along a transport path, include a discharge roll disposed on a most downstream side of the transport path, and rotate and do not rotate in synchronization with one another; an opening and closing unit that exposes or covers an upstream portion of the transport path; plural detectors that are provided apart from one another along the transport path, detect a transported document, and include a discharge detector that is disposed on a most downstream side of the transport path and is disposed on an upstream side relative to the discharge roll in a document transport direction; a reader that reads an image formed on a transported document in a downstream portion of the transport path; and a controller that stops the plural transport rolls once upon occurrence of a document jam inside a device body by controlling the transport rolls and rotates the transport rolls for only a predetermined period in a case where the discharge detector is detecting no document and a length of a document is equal to or longer than a threshold length.

A document feeding device has: a document placement stand on which documents of different sizes can be placed; a conveying section separating, one-by-one, documents of a document stack placed on the document placement stand, and conveying a separated document to a discharging section; a first document width sensing unit sensing a maximum document width of the document stack placed on the document placement stand; a second document width sensing unit sensing a document width of a document separated from the document placement stand by the conveying section; and a controller that, in a case in which a mixed size document mode that permits conveying of documents of different sizes is not set, causes the conveying section to restartably interrupt conveying of the document when the maximum document width sensed by the first document width sensing unit and the document width sensed by the second document width sensing unit differ.

A power supply control apparatus that includes an instruction component, an execution component and a power supply control component is provided. The power supply control component is equipped with at least two measurement functions that have different measurement durations for cases in which the duration until interrupting the power supply to device(s) is measured, wherein measurement is activated with a first measurement function of relatively long measurement duration at a completion time of prior image processing, and measurement is activated with a second measurement function of relatively short measurement duration for device(s) to which power is being supplied at the time of completion of the prior image processing but which are not required in later image processing.

There is provided an image processing apparatus including: an image scanner that scans in an image of an original, the image scanner including an opening and closing member capable of moving between an open position and a closed position, a closing operation detection unit that detects closing operation of the opening and closing member, and a determination unit that determines a size and orientation of the original; an image forming unit that forms an image on recording paper based on scanned image data; a switching unit that independently switches between power supply or supply interruption for the image scanner and the image forming unit; and a notification unit that, after power supply has been resumed to the image scanner, executes notification to urge selection of either manual input of the size and the orientation of the original or opening and closing operation of the opening and closing member.

A paper stacking apparatus including a paper stacking device for stacking plural sheets of paper thereon; a paper size detecting device for detecting a size of the paper to be stacked on the paper stacking device; a paper stack detecting device for detecting whether the paper is present or absent on the paper stacking device; and a control device for inhibiting stacking of the paper when the paper size detected by the paper size detecting device is different from a preset paper size, and for allowing the stacking when absence of the paper on the paper stacking device is detected by the paper stack detecting device during inhibition of the stacking. Accordingly, the control device inhibits paper having any sizes other than the preset paper size from being stacked on the top of stacked sheets of paper present on the paper stacking device and restores allowance of stacking when the paper present on the paper stacking device is removed during inhibition of stacking.
