There is disclosed a method executed in a printing apparatus operable to read out data from a recording medium and to execute printing based on the read-out data with respect to a printing medium. A first mode for selecting a type of the printing is effected. A prescribed command is received after the first mode is effected. A second mode for adjusting a printing position relative to the printing medium is effected when the prescribed command is received. The printing position is adjusted when the second mode is effected. The first mode is effected when the adjusting of the printing position is finished, with a condition that is effected when the prescribed command is received.

Method for adjusting a printing position for a printing apparatus

There are provided an original table for an original, a linear image sensor for converting light into an electric signal, a first optical system for forming an optical image on a main scanning line onto the linear image sensor, a sub scanning unit for scanning the main scanning line in parallel with a sub scanning direction, and a second optical system forming an optical path that reaches the linear image sensor from a detecting position on the plate surface, which is remote from the main scanning line in a sub scanning direction. A size and an orientation of an original are decided based on an electric signal converted from light that reaches the linear image sensor from the main scanning line via the first optical system, and an electric signal converted from light that reaches the linear image sensor from the detecting position via the second optical system.

Image reading system

A white reference image is inputted to an image sensor so as to output groups of analog data. The groups of analog data are converted by a processing unit into those groups of digital data the number of which is smaller than that of photosensor elements of the image sensor. The lowest density value of the groups or digital data is inspected, an operating environment is set so that the lowest density value of the groups of digital data may become a density value within a predetermined range. An optical system, a drive unit and the processing unit are controlled under the operating environment so as to output from the processing unit, image data which express a subject image inputted to the image sensor.
