The near-infrared reflective film is a lamination unit including: a high refractive layer containing a first metal oxide particle and a first water-soluble polymer, a low refractive layer containing a second metal oxide particle and a second water-soluble polymer, and a mixed layer that is located between the high refractive layer and the low refractive layer and contains the first metal oxide particle, the second metal oxide particle, and a third water-soluble polymer. The refractive index of the low refractive layer is smaller than the refractive index of the high refractive layer by 0.1 or more. The first metal oxide particle and the second metal oxide particle are different metal oxides.

Disclosed is a method of manufacturing an electrochromic display element having improved durability. Specifically disclosed is a method of manufacturing a display element containing opposed electrodes and a porous layer which is arranged between the opposed electrodes and containing a metal oxide and an electrochromic dye supported on the metal oxide. The method contains the step of applying plural kinds of inks to the porous layer by an inkjet apparatus, wherein the inks are capable of uniformizing the amount of the electrochromic dye supported on the porous layer containing the metal oxide in one pixel of the display element.

The present invention provides a highly flexible near-infrared reflecting film which has achieved good near-infrared reflection characteristics by comprising layers that have different refractive indexes and which is not susceptible to bending or cracks. This near-infrared reflecting film has a multilayer film, in which films having refractive indexes different from each other are laminated, on a film, and is characterized in that: the difference of the refractive indexes between at least two adjacent layers is 0.3 or more; at least one of the two adjacent layers contains a metal oxide; and at least one of the two adjacent layers contains a polyvinyl alcohol or an inorganic polymer.

Expression (1) 1/100 &#x2266;TBP/TW&#x2266;1/5, where TBP represents time width (ms) of one pulse applied in an applied direction necessary for black display, and TW represents the sum of applied time (ms) in an applied direction necessary for white display after conducting the black display employing the applied pulse.

This invention provides a novel electrochemical display element, which can realize bright white display, high-contrast black and white display, and full-color display by a simple member construction, and a method for driving the display element. The display element is characterized in that it comprises opposed electrodes, and an electrolyte, an electrochromic compound, a metal salt compound, and a white scattering material between the opposed electrodes, and multicolor display of three or more colors is carried out by black display, white display, and display of color other than black by driving the opposed electrodes by taking advantage of 1) a color change as a result of oxidation and reduction reactions of the electrochromic compound, and 2) a color change as a result of reduction precipitation and oxidation dissolution of a metallic element contained in the metal salt compound in at least one of the opposed electrodes.

Display element and driving method thereof

Provided is a novel electrochemical display element which performs bright white display, high contrast black/white display and full-color display with a simple member configuration. A method for driving such display element is also provided. The display element contains an electrochromic compound, which is colored or has its color disappear due to oxidation or reduction, a metallic salt compound, an electrolyte and a white scattered material, between opposing electrodes. The display element substantially performs multiple color display of three colors or more, i.e., black display, white display and colored display other than black, by driving operation of the opposing electrodes.

Display element and method of driving the same

The present invention provides an electrochromic display device which can realize a reduction in color drift in storing images and has excellent memory properties. The electrochromic display device is an active matrix drive-type electrochromic display device containing opposed electrodes, at least one type of a porous layer containing titanium oxide with an electrochromic dye adsorbed thereon, and at least one type of a porous layer containing tin oxide. The active matrix drive-type electrochromic display device is characterized in that the tin oxide-containing porous layer is connected to a pixel circuit used in active matrix drive through one of the opposed electrodes.

Electrochromic display device

This invention provides a display element having a reduced white color tone variation during repeated drive. This display element contains an electrolyte between opposed electrodes. The electrolyte contains silver or a compound containing silver in its chemical structure. The opposed electrodes are driven so that silver is dissolved and precipitated. The display element is characterized in that the electrolyte contains a compound represented by general formula (A) and a compound represented by general formula (1) or (2).

A display element which has an electrolyte layer containing silver or a compound containing silver in the chemical structure thereof and an electrolytic solvent between opposed electrodes, and also contains a porous white scattering material between said opposed electrodes, wherein said opposed electrodes can be operated so as to dissolve silver or deposit silver, characterized in that said porous white scattering material is incorporated through a step of imparting an aqueous intimate mixture containing a water-soluble polymer substantially insoluble in said electrolytic solvent and a white pigment onto a component between said opposed electrodes, followed by drying. The above display element is composed of simple and easily available members, can be operated with a low voltage, exhibits high display contrast and satisfactorily high reflectance for the white display, and is reduced in the fluctuation of the white reflectance.

A display element that excels in electrode durability. This display element is one having opposed electrodes and, interposed therebetween, an electrolyte containing either silver or a compound containing silver in its chemical structure, the opposed electrodes driven and operated so as to induce dissolution and precipitation of silver, characterized in that of the opposed electrodes, the electrode at a face not lying on an image observation side, after hermetic charging of the electrolyte, is plated with silver with the use of the electrolyte as a silver plating solution.

Display element and production method thereof

Provided is a display element which is drivable with simple components and at a relatively low voltage and exhibits high display contrast, enhanced white display reflectance, superior response speed and reduced image unevenness. The display element includes opposing electrodes having therebetween an electrolyte containing silver or a compound having silver in the chemical structure, wherein the opposing electrodes are driven by a drive circuit disposed for each of pixels so that the silver is dissolved and deposited and the opposing electrodes are provided on a plane separate from the drive circuit.

There is provided a display element which is constituted of simple members, can achieve low-voltage drive and exhibits high display contrast and superior response speed. The display element comprises opposed electrodes having therebetween an electrolyte layer containing silver or a silver-containing compound, wherein the opposed electrodes are driven so that silver is dissolved and deposited and the electrolyte layer further contains at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by formula (1), (2) or (3). 

An electrochromic display element includes a pair of counter electrodes having therebetween an electrochromic compound represented by Formula (1), wherein the electrochromic compound becomes colored when being oxidized and becomes colorless when being reduced by a driving operation of the electrodes: wherein Rrepresents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group; and Rand Reach represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent; X represents &#x3e;N&#x2014;R, an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; and Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a substituent.
