A liquid crystal composition is provided containing a first liquid crystal compound represented by formula (1): and a second liquid crystal compound represented by formula (2):  Also provided is a method for producing the liquid crystal composition having a desired wavelength dispersion characteristic.

Liquid crystal composition

A compound having a maximum absorption in a wavelength range of 350 nm to 550 nm that functions as a dichroic dye is provided. In particular, a compound represented by formula (1) is provided. In the compound represented by formula (1), Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or the like; Rrepresents an acyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or the like; Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or the like; and Y represents a group of formula (Y1). In the group of formula (Y1), * represents a bonding site with N, or a group of formula (Y2); and in the group of formula (Y2), * represents a bonding site with N; Pand Peach independently represent &#x2014;S&#x2014; or the like; and Qand Qeach independently represent &#x2550;N&#x2014; or the like.

Provided is an optical film which has a maximum absorption at a wavelength in the range of 600 to 680 nm, has a high dichroic ratio, and is excellent in light resistance. The optical film includes: a polymer of a polymerizable liquid crystal compound; and a compound represented by the following general formula (1). 

Optical film

A liquid crystal composition which prevents production of an alignment defect of a liquid crystal compound and also has excellent storage stability during dissolution in a solvent is provided. The liquid crystal composition is suitable for constituting a retardation film capable of favorable circular polarization conversion. The liquid crystal composition includes a polymerizable liquid crystal compound having 3 or more ring structures in the main chain, and aluminum. A content of the aluminum is 1 ppm or more and 170 ppm or less relative to the polymerizable liquid crystal compound.

Dichroic pigment compounds and compositions containing the same

Provided is a composition which is to be a raw material of a polarizing film having excellent light fastness. The composition includes a polymerizable liquid crystal compound and a compound represented by the following formula (1): wherein E represents an electron attractive group having at least 3 carbon atoms or the following group: wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms;Ar represents a group selected from the following groups: and A represents a group selected from the following groups: wherein R, Rand R, and l, m, n, p, and q are defined in the specification.

Composition and polarizing film

A method is provided for producing a compound, including a step of mixing a compound (1) having one or two leaving groups, a compound (2) having one or two boron atom-containing leaving groups, an organic base (P), and at least one selected from a phase transfer catalyst and an organic base (Q) larger in the number of carbon atoms than the above-mentioned organic base in the presence of a transition metal catalyst. The method thereby performs a coupling reaction between the above-mentioned compound (1) and the above-mentioned compound (2).

Method for producing compound

Provided is a composition that can form a polarizing film with high dichroic ratio, which contains a compound having a function as a dichroic dye and having a local maximum absorption in a wavelength range of 350 to 550 nm.
