In diesel engines, soot is produced by combustion and enters into the engine oil, preventing the engine lubricant from fully exercising its lubricity. The present invention provides a lubricating composition comprising a lubricating basestock, an organic molybdenum compound (A) and succinimide (B) having 0.01 or less of an IR spectrum absorbance peak intensity ratio &agr;/&bgr;, wherein &agr; represents an absorbance peak intensity at 1,550&plusmn;10 cm,and &bgr; represents an absorbance peak intensity at 1,700&plusmn;10 cm,. Preferably, the organic molybdenum compound is the compound represented by the following formula (1) or formula (2):

There is provided a lubricating composition including a lubricating base containing an asymmetric sulfurized oxymolybdenum dithiocarbamate of the formula (1); a symmetric sulfurized oxymolybdenum dithiocarbamate of the formula (2); and a phenolic or aminic antioxidant.

A lubricating composition of the present invention comprises a base oil for lubricating oil or base grease; at least one molybdenum compound as component (A) selected from the group consisting of a selected sulfurized oxymolybdenum dithiocarbamate, a selected sulfurized oxymolybdenum dithiophosphate and a selected molybdenum amine compound; and a (poly)glycerol ether and/or a (poly)oxyalkylene glycol monoalkyl ether as component (B).

A process for producing molybdenum oxysulfide dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) by reacting [A] an aqueous solution or suspension prepared by reacting (a) a compound having hexavalent molybdenum, with (b) an alkali hydrogensulfide or an alkali sulfide, [B] a carbon disulfide, [C] a secondary amine and [D] a mineral acid, wherein [E] a reducing agent is added and reacted at any stage, and a lubricating oil composition containing the compound obtained according to said process. MoDTC can be efficiently produced in high yields by using a hexavalent molybdenum compound as a starting material, and the produced MoDTC has low corrosive action, excellent wear characteristics and excellent lubricating properties.

Process for producing molybdenum oxysulfide dithiocarbamate

The present invention is directed to providing a lubricating oil composition which contains an alkyl group asymmetric type molydbdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) as an essential component thereof and which exhibits far more excellent lubrication performance than a conventional lubricating oil composition containing an alkyl group symmetric type MoDTC conventional used in the field of lubricating oils. The lubricating oil composition according to the present invention comprises a base oil for a lubricating oil consisting of a mineral oil and/or a synthetic oil and having a viscosity index of at least 115 and a viscosity at 100.degree. C. falling within the range of 2 to 50 cSt, and a specific alkyl group asymmetric type MoDTC as an essential component.

The objective of the present invention resides in providing a lubricant for refrigerators that reacts rapidly with free acids and contains a stabilizer that has good compatibility with a chlorine-free Flon-thpe coolant such as Flon 134a and the like whose molecules do not contain chlorine. The present invention relates to a lubricated refrigerant for use in refrigerators employing hydrofluorocarbon coolants such as R 134a, R 32, R 125 and the like. The lubricated refrigerant contains fluorocarbon coolant, synthetic oil and a carbodiimide compound represented by the following general formula. R.sub.1 --N.dbd.C.dbd.N--R.sub.2, wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent hydrogen atoms or hydrocarbly groups or nitrogen and/or oxygen containing hydrocarbly groups, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may be the same or different groups. The refrigerant composition according to the present invention preferably contains said hydrofluorocarbon coolant and said lubricant at a given blending ratio.

Refrigerant composition containing carbodiimide

A powdery molybdenum oxysulfide dithiocarbamate composition which comprises a compound represented by the following general formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independent hydrocarbyl groups and may be the same or different groups, and the total number of carbon atoms contained in R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 is 4 to 36; and wherein X is sulfur or oxygen and the composition of the total of all Xs is given as S.sub.m O.sub.n in which n and m satisfy the ranges of 1.7.ltoreq.m.ltoreq.3.5 and 0.5.ltoreq.n.ltoreq.2.3, respectively, and in which the constituent particles have diameters of not larger than 50 .mu.m. Disclosed is a novel sulfidoxymolybdenum dialkylphosphorodithioate represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R stands for a secondary alkyl group having 4 to 30 carbon atoms and four R's may be the same or different, and X stands for O or S and four X's may be the same or different. This compound is very valuable as the lubricant additive.
