A storage container includes: a substrate having a plurality of storage wells to store an object therein, the storage wells being formed on a predetermined substrate surface of the substrate. Further, the storage wells each includes an opening forming portion forming an opening portion opening on the substrate surface, and having an inclined surface that inclines from the substrate surface downward in a depth direction on an inner surface of the opening portion; and a bottomed storage portion that has a side wall surface extending in a direction perpendicular to the substrate surface on a lower side in the depth direction of the storage well relative to the opening forming portion, and that communicates with a region on the substrate surface through the opening portion, and a lower end of the inclined surface is connected to the side wall surface of the storage portion, forming a ridgeline.

A ring-resonator filter device includes: a waveguide device that includes a core. Further, the core constitutes two ring resonator filters, each of the two ring resonator filters includes two arm portions, a ring-shaped portion, and two optical coupling/branching portions that optically couple the two arm portions and the ring-shaped portion, respectively, and the two ring-shaped portions cross each other.

An optical waveguide circuit includes: a ring waveguide; an input connection waveguide; an output connection waveguide; and an optical multiplexing/demultiplexing part that optically connects the ring waveguide with the input connection waveguide, and that optically connects the ring waveguide with the output connection waveguide. Further, at least one of the input connection waveguide and the output connection waveguide includes a plurality of curved waveguides, a sum total of products of curvature signs and bending angles of the curved waveguides and a sum total of a curvature sign and a bending angle of the ring waveguide have a same absolute value with signs opposite to each other, and rotation of a polarization plane of light generated in the ring waveguide and rotation of a polarization plane of light generated in the curved waveguides cancel each other out.

Optical waveguide circuit

An optical waveguide circuit includes a polarization beam splitter connecting to a first input optical waveguide; an optical interference element receiving one of orthogonally polarization-split lights of a first light from the polarization beam splitter, and one of orthogonally-polarized lights from a second light input to a second input optical waveguide, the optical interference element causing interference therebetween; a first connection optical waveguide connecting the polarization beam splitter and the optical interference element; and a second connection optical waveguide connecting the second input optical waveguide and the optical interference element. The first and the second input optical waveguides have a straight-line shape or an S-shape including a first bending portion and a second bending portion to cancel the polarization-rotation of light taking place in the first bending portion. The polarization beam splitter, the first and the second connection optical waveguides, and the optical interference element are arranged in an S-shape.

Optical waveguide circuit having identical polarization-cancelling S-shaped curves

An object of the present invention is to provide a switch unit for optical signals which is capable of reducing an area required for arrangement and reducing manufacturing costs, and a switch apparatus including the switch unit. A switch unitaccording to one embodiment of the present invention includes two optical switch arraysarranged to face in opposite directions and in parallel on a substrate. The two optical switch arrays extend along a surface of a chip, and each have four optical switchesarranged in parallel. Such a configuration makes it possible to reduce the size of the switch unit because in an excess region of one of the optical switch array, the other optical switch array is disposed.

Switch apparatus

An optical branching element includes: an input waveguide; a tapered waveguide connected to the input waveguide; two branched waveguides that are connected to the tapered waveguide and arranged so as to form a Y-shape with the input waveguide and the tapered waveguide; and a plurality of strip-like waveguides that are provided so as to connect between the two branched waveguides and not to protrude outside the two branched waveguides, and formed so as to decrease in width as becoming distant from the tapered waveguide.

The dynamic gain equalizer for flattening a gain profile of an optical amplifier includes: an optical waveguide circuit having multistage optical couplers, demultiplexing and multiplexing, each formed by connecting optical couplers arranged at a plurality of stages; and optical connecting circuits including optical phase shifters each capable of changing a phase of propagating light and optical delay lines each for adding a predetermined delay time to the propagating light, said dynamic gain equalizer in which at least one of the optical couplers in the two multistage optical couplers are provided with variable optical amplitude means, respectively, and each of the multistage optical couplers are formed asymmetrically with respect to an extension of a line which connects a center arranged position of optical outputting ends of the demultiplexing multistage optical coupler with a center arranged position of optical inputting ends of the multiplexing multistage optical coupler.
