As shown in FIG. ( ), according to the present invention, a quartz rod is used where, for example, the diameter of the end on the side to which an ultrasound probe attached is 0.58 mm, the diameter at the narrowest portion is 0.3 mm, the diameter at the end on the specimen side is 0.68 mm, and the length is 38 cm. As a result, the diameter on the side of fused quartz rod to which ultrasound transducer allows a favorable range of L (0,3) mode conversion efficiency; and in addition, the diameter of quartz rod on the side coming into contact with specimen is sufficiently large in comparison with wavelength, and in other portions it is set to be sufficiently narrow in order to obtain flexibility. Ultrasonic transmitter/receiver by pulse compression

A clamping structure for disk drive for receiving a disk includes a spindle hub, a spacer, and a clamp ring. The spindle hub has a flange at a first end thereof. The flange has a first protruding portion. The discs are stacked on the first protruding portion. The first spacer is interposed between adjacent ones of the disks. The clamp ring is fixed to a second end of the spindle hub. The clamp ring has a second protruding portion for biasing the disks toward the flange of the spindle hub. In a process of forming a holder arm of the disk drive, the tip of a holder arm is contoured by wire cutting method after the holder armed is roughly formed from a metal body. In the wire cutting method, a voltage is placed between the metal body and the wire. The tip of the holder is contoured by the wire by bringing the wire into contact with the metal body.

Magnetic disk drive having means for reducing disk deformation

A process for reducing deformation of a holder arm, which holds a head of a data recording device, includes cutting a metal body to form the holder arm and contouring a tip of the holder arm by wire cutting. The step of contouring preferably includes steps of placing a voltage between the metal body and a wire, moving the wire, and bringing the wire adjacent the metal body to contour the tip of the holder arm.

Process for reducing disk deformation of holder arm of data recording

Structure for maintaining a magnetic head at a constant flying height over a magnetic disk surface. Electromechanical transducers cooperate with structure of a negative pressure head slider mechanism to keep the slider out of contact with the magnetic disk when the disk is not rotating, and to move the head to within a constant flying height over the disk surface when the disk is rotating at a sufficient constant speed. The structure of the negative pressure head slider may be such as to maintain the slider at the constant flying height even when drive voltage is not applied to the transducers, so long as the magnetic disk is rotating at a constant speed.
