A pixel includes a voltage dividing unit, a LC capacitor, a control unit, a first capacitor, a writing-in unit, and an adjusting unit. First terminal of the voltage dividing unit receives a first power voltage. The control terminal of the voltage dividing unit receives a first control signal. The LC capacitor is electrically coupled to the second terminal of voltage dividing unit. The control terminal of the control unit receives a second control signal. The writing-in unit provides a first pixel data signal to the first capacitor based on a third control signal. The adjusting unit receives a second power voltage. The adjusting unit divides voltage difference between the first and second power voltages based on the first pixel data signal stored in the first capacitor so as to control voltage stored in the LC capacitor, such that the LC corresponding to LC capacitor can be controlled.

Pixel circuit for extending charging time

A representative LCD system includes: liquid crystal material disposed between first and second substrates; protrusions supported by the first substrate and arranged in an array, each of the protrusions extending from a base; first pixel electrodes, with a corresponding one of the first pixel electrodes being positioned adjacent the base of a corresponding one of the protrusions; first common electrodes, with a corresponding one of the first common electrodes being positioned adjacent the base of a corresponding one of the protrusions such that each of the protrusions is positioned between one of the first pixel electrodes and one of the first common electrodes; second pixel electrodes, with a corresponding one of the second pixel electrodes being positioned on a corresponding one of the protrusions; and second common electrodes, with a corresponding one of the second common electrodes being positioned on a corresponding one of the protrusions.

Liquid crystal display systems and related methods

A display apparatus includes a display panel, a light guide plate, at least one light source and at least one reflective body. The light guide plate is disposed below the display panel. The light guide plate has a light-incident surface, a light-emitting surface, a rear surface, a plurality of concave microstructures and a plurality of reflective bodies. The rear surface is located farther away from the display panel than the light-emitting surface is. The light-incident surface is connected to the light-emitting surface and the rear surface. The concave microstructures are located on the rear surface. The reflective bodies are respectively located in the concave microstructures. The light source is disposed opposite to the light-incident surface.

Display apparatus

A method for manufacturing LCD panels includes providing upper and lower substrates; interposing a liquid crystal material composed of at least one liquid crystal molecule and at least two photosensitive monomers between the upper and lower substrates, at least one first photosensitive monomer having an absorption peak larger than 300 nm and at least one second photosensitive monomer having an absorption peak smaller than 300 nm; applying a voltage between the upper and lower substrates and irradiating with ultra-violet radiation having a first wavelength larger than 300 nm for a first time interval for polymerizing most first photosensitive monomers to provide an alignment polymer; and separately irradiating with ultra-violet radiation having a second wavelength for a second time interval, the second wavelength being larger than the first wavelength. The Irradiating steps are separate and, when irradiating with the first wavelength precedes irradiating with the second wavelength, residual monomers are reduced.

Method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display panel

A liquid crystal device including a first substrate including a plurality of picture elements; a second substrate including a common electrode; and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween. The first substrate and the second substrate are arranged to be opposite to each other, and each of the plurality of picture elements has a plurality of elongated electrodes configured to apply voltages to the liquid crystal layer in cooperation with the common electrode. The elongated electrodes within one of the plurality of picture elements extend in eight directions, and each of the plurality of picture elements is divided into eight regions based upon the eight directions. In each of the eight regions of one of the plurality of picture elements, two or more of the plurality of elongated electrodes extend along a corresponding one of the eight directions.

Liquid crystal display device

In accordance with a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including, in a picture element, a first sub-picture-element region where a threshold voltage of the transmittance-applied voltage characteristic is Vthand a second sub-picture-element region where a threshold voltage of the transmittance-applied voltage characteristic is Vth, liquid crystal, which polymerizable components are added to, is filled into the space between a first and a second substrates; thereafter, a voltage Vslightly higher than the threshold voltage Vthis applied to a liquid crystal layer, and is held for a certain length of time; subsequently, a voltage Vslightly higher than the threshold voltage Vthis applied to the liquid crystal layer, and is held for a certain length of time; additionally, a voltage Vhigher than a white-displaying voltage which is applied while the liquid crystal display device is in actual use is applied to the liquid crystal layer, and is held for a certain length of time; then, the polymerizable components are polymerized by irradiation of ultraviolet light; and thus polymers are formed in the liquid crystal layer.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device including a first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes a plurality of picture elements, and at least one of the plurality of picture elements includes: a switching element; a plurality of gate bus lines extending in a first direction and electrically connected to the switching element; a plurality of data bus lines extending in a second direction and electrically connected to the switching element; a first sub picture element electrode and a second sub picture element electrode disposed adjacent to the first sub picture element electrode with a gap therebetween, and a control electrode overlapping both the first and second sub picture element electrodes. The control electrode extends in the second direction. Each of the first and second sub picture element electrodes includes a cross-shaped connecting electrode part and microelectrode parts extending from the connecting electrode part.

A liquid crystal display including first and second substrates arranged opposite to each other to form a gap, with first and second alignment films provided on the first and second substrates, respectively. A cured material is provided on at least one of the first and second alignment films, and a liquid crystal layer of liquid crystal molecules is provided in the gap. The display includes a pixel electrode with a plurality of elongated members arranged with spaces therebetween, wherein the plurality of elongated members are electrically connected to each other, and a common electrode configured to apply a voltage to the liquid crystal layer in cooperation with the pixel electrode. The plurality of elongated members include first, second, third and fourth elongated members extending, respectively, in first, second, third and fourth directions in plan view. The cured material regulates alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules.

Liquid crystal display

A viewing angle switchable liquid crystal display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, a plurality of color sub-pixels and a plurality of viewing angle control (VAC) pixels. The liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate. The liquid crystal molecules of each color sub-pixel include twisted nematic liquid crystal molecules. Each of the color sub-pixels includes a first pixel electrode disposed on an inner surface of the first substrate, and a second pixel electrode disposed on an inner surface of the second substrate. Each of the viewing angle control pixels includes a first electrode and a second electrode disposed on the inner surface of the first substrate, and a third electrode disposed on the inner surface of the second substrate.

Liquid crystal display device with a switchable viewing angle comprising a plurality of color sub-pixels and a plurality of viewing angle control sub-pixels

A liquid crystal display includes a first switch for outputting a first electrode voltage according to a first data signal and a first gate signal, a second switch for outputting a second electrode voltage according to a second data signal and the first gate signal, a liquid crystal capacitor for controlling liquid-crystal transmittance according to the difference between the first and second electrode voltages, a first storage capacitor for storing the first electrode voltage, a third switch, a second storage capacitor for storing the second electrode voltage, and a fourth switch. The third switch controls the operation of furnishing a first common voltage to the first storage capacitor according to a second gate signal, for adjusting the first electrode voltage. The fourth switch controls the operation of furnishing a second common voltage to the second storage capacitor according to the second gate signal, for adjusting the second electrode voltage.

Liquid crystal display and driving method with common voltage control for avoiding flicker and color-shift phenomena

A pixel structure, which may be used in a liquid crystal display panel, includes a plurality of display pixel units and a plurality of control devices. Each of the display pixel units includes a first sub-pixel adapted to provide a first color, a second sub-pixel adapted to provide a second color, a third sub-pixel adapted to provide a third color, a first white sub-pixel, a second white sub-pixel, and a third white sub-pixel. Each of the control devices is employed for respectively controlling each of the sub-pixels. The liquid crystal display panel is normally white when the first sub-pixel, the second sub-pixel, the third sub-pixel, the first white sub-pixel, the second white sub-pixel, and the third white sub-pixel are not driven by the control devices.

Pixel structure, liquid crystal display panel and transparent liquid crystal display device

The technology presented herein has a feature of providing a liquid crystal display device of an excellent viewing angle characteristic and high brightness, including: liquid crystals containing polymerizable monomers between a first substrate with a pixel electrode having micro slits and a second substrate facing the first substrate; wherein the monomers are polymerizable with voltage applied to the liquid crystals; and an alignment orientation of the liquid crystals is controllable to a direction of extending the micro slit, wherein the pixel electrode includes: a direct coupling part electrically connected to a switching element; a capacitive coupling part electrically insulated from the switching element, and a space between the direct and capacitive coupling parts, wherein directions in which the micro slits are extended along the direct and capacitive coupling parts are orthogonal to each other.

A method for forming the alignment films on the substrate and a pixel structure of a liquid crystal display are disclosed. The pixel structure comprises a plurality of pixel units arranged in arrays. Each of the pixel units comprises a first substrate, a second substrate, two first alignment films and two second alignment films. The first alignment film is different from the second alignment film. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. The two first alignment films and the two second alignment films are individually disposed on the first substrate and the second substrate, while each of the first alignment films is disposed substantially opposite to one of the second alignment films. The method for forming the alignment films comprises the following steps: (1) forming a trench on the substrate to divide each of the pixel units into a first sub-pixel area and a second sub-pixel area, (2) forming the first alignment film on the first sub-pixel area of the substrate and then, (3) forming a second alignment film on the second sub-pixel area of the substrate at last.

Method for forming multiple alignment films on a substrate and pixel structure of a liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display including a pair of substrates arranged opposite to each other to form a gap; spaced vertical alignment films formed on the substrate in the gap; a cured material formed on at least one of the alignment films in the gap; and a liquid crystal layer of liquid crystal molecules. The display also includes a pixel electrode formed on one of the substrates in a pixel region and having either a plurality of elongated members arranged with spaces therebetween and connected by a connecting member or a plurality of elongated openings arranged in patterns. Finally, the cured material is at least formed on the vertical alignment films so that an alignment direction of at least the liquid crystal molecules adjacent the alignment films is regulated.
