A maleimide derivative having the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a phenyl group which may be substituted, or an aralkyl group having 7 to 10 carbon atoms, and X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom, and a production process thereof as well as a agricultural and horticultural fungicide containing, as an active ingredient, the maleimide derivative.
