A scroll-type compressor has a piston valve mechanism for controlling the feeding of lubricating oil to slidable parts of the compressor. The piston valve mechanism includes a cylinder bore that connects a medium pressure chamber and a low pressure chamber, and a piston valve and a spring accommodated with the cylinder bore. The spring resiliently biases the piston valve toward the medium pressure chamber. The piston valve is driven by a pressure difference between the medium pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber, and by the spring. In one embodiment, an inwardly stepped, narrowed portion formed in the cylinder bore engages the piston valve to prevent further compression of the spring.

Scroll-type compressors

A scroll-type compressor includes a fixed first scroll member, an orbital second scroll member, and a ball coupling provided as a rotation preventing mechanism for the second scroll member. The ball coupling has a pair of plates integrally formed with ring-like ball rolling grooves and a plurality of balls disposed therebetween. The compressor comprises a driven crank mechanism creating a swing motion for producing an orbital movement of the second scroll member. The amount of variation of the swing angle due to the driven crank mechanism is set within a range predetermined in accordance with a diameter of a ring form of each of the ring-like ball rolling grooves. The variation of the orbital radius of the orbital movement of the second scroll member corresponding to the swing angle may be regulated within a most appropriate range, thereby preventing occurrence of problems in the rotation preventing mechanism with respect to abrasion, performance and durability.

Scroll-type compressor

A scroll-type compressor includes a fixed first scroll member, an orbital second scroll member, and a ball coupling provided as a rotation preventing mechanism for the second scroll member. The ball coupling has a pair of integrally formed rolling ball regulating plates and a plurality of balls disposed therebetween. The ball coupling is assembled in the compressor at a condition in that an axial preload is provided. The axial preload is set more than an axial force given by the balls to the rolling ball regulating plates during operation of the compressor for correcting deformation of the rolling ball regulating plates. When the compressor is assembled, an axial gap between the first and second scroll members may be properly adjusted. After the assembly and during the operation of the compressor, the behavior of balls may be stable.

The movable scroll is driven by a crank pin (12) eccentrically attached to a shaft (11) which is rotated by an external driving source. A scroll-type refrigerant fluid compressor includes a fixed scroll having a first circular end plate from which a first spiral wrap extends, and an orbiting scroll having a second circular end plate from which a second spiral wrap extends. A thrust bearing and coupling component includes a fixed ring fastened to an inner surface of the housing and an orbiting ring fastened to an axial end surface of the end plate of the orbiting member facing the fixed ring. The fixed and orbiting rings have a plurality of corresponding circular pockets, each pocket on the fixed ring faces a pocket on the orbiting ring corresponding in size, pitch, and radial distance. A ball bearing is placed within each facing pair of corresponding pockets. The corresponding pockets interact with the ball bearings to prevent rotation of the orbiting member during orbital motion. The present invention discloses a reliable rotation preventing/thrust bearing device for use in an orbiting member fluid displacement apparatus. The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion, and bearing elements. The fixed portion includes a first annular race and a first ring, both of which are formed separately. The first annular race is placed in a loose fit surrounding a first annular step in an inner surface of the housing and the first ring is attached to the housing. The orbital portion includes a second annular race and a second ring, both of which are formed separately. The second annular race is placed in a loose fit surrounding a second annular step in an end plate of the orbiting member and the second ring is attached to the end plate of the orbiting member. A plurality of pockets of the rings face one another in generally aligned pairs. A bearing element is received in each aligned pair of pockets to prevent the rotation of the orbiting member by the bearing elements interacting with the first and second rings and to carry the axial thrust load from the orbiting member. The first and second annular anti-wear plates are overlaid surrounding the first and second annular races, respectively. The first and second annular anti-wear plates are fixedly placed within the first and second annular steps respectively in order to prevent the circumferential and radial movement thereof.

A rotary machine, such as a horizontally oriented scroll type refrigerant compressor is disclosed. The compressor includes a compressor housing, an inner block fixedly disposed within the compressor housing, a drive shaft extending substantially in the horizontal direction, and a driven mechanism, such as a compression mechanism operatively connected to one end of the drive shaft. The drive shaft is rotatably supported by the inner block and the compressor housing. A shielding element, such as an annular cylindrical member is fixedly held between the inner block and the compressor housing to prevent the drive shaft from passing through an oil sump of the housing. An internal lubrication oil pump is formed by the elements which are associated with the drive shaft, and is operated by virtue of the rotational motion of the drive shaft in order to supply the lubrication oil from the oil sump to the frictional surfaces of the internal component parts of the compressor. According to the construction and operational manner of the oil pump, the oil pump can be used for various types of horizontally oriented rotary machines. The drive shaft can also rotate without receiving oil viscous drag.

The present invention discloses a durable rotation preventing/thrust bearing device for use in an orbiting member fluid displacement apparatus. The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion and bearing elements.
