Olefin polymer with narrow molecular weight distribution and specific molecular weight, olefin polymer having functional group introduced at terminal, tapered polymer containing segment wherein monomer composition continuously changes in the polymer chain, olefin polymer having different segments bonded to each other, and process for preparing these polymers. The olefin polymers are polymers of Ccarbon atom olefins and have a number-average molecular weight of &#x2267;500 and Mw/Mn of &#x2266;1.5. In syntheses, an olefin of 2-20 carbon atoms is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compound represented by the formula LMXwherein M is a transition metal atom of Group 3-11, m is 1-5, n is a number satisfying a valence of M, L is a ligand&#x2014;coordinated to the central metal M&#x2014;which contains a heteroatom having no direct bond to the central metal, and X is e.g. halogen or a hydrocarbon.

Olefin polymer and process for preparing the same

A hybrid polymer has a structure in which a polyolefin segment and a polar polymer segment are connected not via a bonding group containing a heteroatom. A method of the invention produces the hybrid polymer with industrial advantages. The hybrid polymer includes a polyolefin segment (A) and a polar polymer segment (B), the polar polymer segment being obtained by radical polymerization of a radically polymerizable monomer.

Hybrid polymer and method for production thereof

A novel olefin-based polymer has excellent thermal resistance, as well as excellent balance among various properties. The olefin-based polymer is an olefin-based polymer comprising 50 to 100% by weight of a constituent unit derived from 4-methyl-1-pentene, and 0 to 50% by weight of a constituent unit derived from at least one olefin selected from olefins having 2 to 20 carbon atoms except 4-methyl-1-pentene, and having the following properties: i) the diad isotacticity is 70% or greater, ii) the ratio (Mw/Mn) of the weight average molecular weight (Mw) to the number average molecular weight (Mn) as measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is in the range of 1.0 to 3.5, and iii) the intrinsic viscosity [&#x3b7;] is 0.5 (dl/g) or greater.

Olefin-based polymers and uses thereof

A group of polymers comprising a plurality of polyolefin chains and polar polymer chains and having a multi-branched structure such as a block structure, a graft structure and a star-shaped structure is produced efficiently by polymerizing or reacting a combination of various polar monomers and their polymers i.e. polar polymer chains by using a functional group-containing polyolefin as a macroinitiator, a macromonomer or a reactive polymer. The resulting multi-branched polymer has a specific shape such as a block structure, a graft structure or a star-shaped structure, and has properties of both the polyolefin and polar polymer, thus exhibiting useful performance in various uses in films and compatibilizing agents as a novel polyolefin-based polymer.

Multi-branched polymer, process for producing the same, and applications thereof

A polar group-containing olefin copolymer having excellent adhesion properties to metals or polar resins and excellent compatibility therewith, a process for preparing the copolymer, a thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer, and uses thereof. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer comprises a constituent unit derived from an &#x25a1;-olefin of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and a constituent unit derived from a straight-chain, branched or cyclic polar group-containing monomer having at the end a polar group such as a hydroxyl group or an epoxy group and/or a constituent unit derived from a macromonomer having at the end a polymer segment obtained by anionic polymerization, ring-opening polymerization or polycondensation. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer can be prepared by polymerizing the &#x3b1;-olefin with the polar group-containing monomer and/or the macromonomer in the presence of a metallocene catalyst. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer and the thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer are used for films, sheets, modifiers, building/civil engineering materials, automobile exterior trim, electric/electronic parts, coating bases, compatibilizing agents, etc.

Polar group-containing olefin copolymer, process for preparing the same, thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer, and uses thereof

The present invention provides ethylene polymers capable of preparing various molded articles such as films, sheets or the like, and having excellent moldability, particularly excellent high-speed moldability. The ethylene polymers of the present invention have a density and molecular weight distribution in specific ranges. The first ethylene polymer is characterized by having (C) a ratio (MFR/MFR) of a melt flow rate (MFR) at 190&#xb0; C. under a load of 10 Kg to a melt flow rate (MFR) at 190&#xb0; C. under a load of 2.16 Kg of from 16.2 to 50. The second ethylene polymer is characterized by having (C) a ratio (MFR/MFR) from 12 to 50. The third ethylene polymer is characterized by having (D) a relation of &#x3c9;2/&#x3c9;1&#x2267;18 where &#x3c9;1 and &#x3c9;2 denote angular velocity (rad/sec) when complex elastic modulus G* (dyne/cm) at 200&#xb0; C. is 5.0&#xd7;10dyne/cmand 2.0&#xd7;10dyne/cm, respectively, which are determined by measurement of the angular velocity dependence of the complex elastic modulus of the copolymer.

Ethylene polymer, preparation process thereof and molded articles of the same

The present invention provides an olefin polymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution and a specific molecular weight, an olefin polymer having a functional group introduced at the terminal, a tapered polymer containing a segment wherein monomer composition continuously changes in the polymer chain, an olefin polymer having different segments which are bonded to each other, and a process for preparing these polymers. The olefin polymers of the invention are polymers of olefins of 2 to 20 carbon atoms and have a number-average molecular weight of not less than 500 and Mw/Mn of not more than 1.5. In the process for preparing an olefin polymer, an olefin of 2 to 20 carbon atoms is polymerized in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising a transition metal compound represented by, for example, the following formula (I):LMX&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)wherein M is a transition metal atom of Group 3 to Group 11 of the periodic table, m is 1 to 5, n is a number satisfying a valence of M, L is a ligand coordinated to the central metal M and is a ligand containing a heteroatom having no direct bond to the central metal, and X is a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or the like.

A propylene/1-butene random copolymer containing 60 to 90 mol % of propylene units and 10 to 40 mol % of 1-butene units and has a triad isotacticity of not less than 85% and not more than 97.5%, a molecular weight distribution of from 1 to 3, an intrinsic viscosity of from 0.1 to 12 dl/g, a melting point of from 40 to 75&#xb0; C. and a crystallization rate at 45&#xb0; C. of 10 minutes or less, and satisfying the following relation, 146 exp (&#x2212;0.022M)&#x2267;Tm&#x2267;125 exp (&#x2212;0.032M), and an olefin catalyst for preparation thereof.

Propylene copolymer, polypropylene composition, and uses thereof, transition metal compounds and catalyst for olefin polymerization

The present invention is a polar group-containing olefin copolymer having excellent adhesion properties to metals or polar resins and excellent compatibility therewith. A process for preparing the copolymer, a thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer, and uses thereof are also described. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer comprises a constituent unit derived from an &#x3b1;-olefin of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and a constituent unit derived from a straight-chain, branched or cyclic polar group-containing monomer having at the end a polar group such as a hydroxyl group or an epoxy group and/or a constituent unit derived from a macromonomer having at the end a polymer segment obtained by anionic polymerization, ring-opening polymerization or polycondensation. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer and the thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer are used for films, sheets, modifiers, building/civil engineering materials, automobile exterior trim, electric/electronic parts, coating bases, compatibilizing agents, etc.

Olefin block copolymers (A-1) are disclosed represented by the formula (I) PO-g-B. . . (I) wherein POis a segment comprised of repeating units derived from an olefin having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, gis an ester, ether, amide, imide, urethane, urea, silylether or carbonyl linkage, and Bis a segment containing an unsaturated hydrocarbon or a hetero atom. A novel graft polymer useful in various uses that has a polyolefin backbone having polyolefin segments excellent in moldability can be obtained by homopolymerizing a novel polyolefin macromonomer or polymerizing the novel polyolefin macromonomer in the coexistence of other olefins depending on need, wherein the macromonomer has at the terminal of its polyolefin chain a vinyl group whose &#x3b1;-position may be substituted, and the macromonomer can be efficiently obtained by a method, for example, successively carrying out i) a step of producing a polyolefin having a hydroxyl group at the terminal of the polyolefin chain and ii) a step of converting the terminal hydroxyl group of the polyolefin in chain into an acryloyl group, a methacryloyl group or a styryl group.

Branched olefin copolymer, process for producing the same, and use thereof

The present invention relates to a polymer having a melt tension (MT (g)) substantially the same as or lower than that of a conventional polymer which is substantially the same as the polymer in the recurring unit of the main skeleton, the molecular weight, the molecular weight distribution and the crystallinity, and having a flow activation energy (Ea (KJ/mol)) larger than a value obtained by adding 5 KJ/mol to the Ea value of the conventional polymer. A preferred example of the polymer is a branched polyolefin comprising 50 to 100% by mol of recurring units derived from ethylene and 0 to 50% by mol of recurring units derived from an &#x3b1;-olefin of 3 to 20 carbon atoms and having the following properties: the flow activation energy (Ea (KJ/mol)) and the &#x3b1;-olefin content (C (% by weight)) satisfy a specific relation, and the melt tension (MT (g)) and the melt flow rate (MFR (g/10 min)) satisfy a specific relation. This branched polyolefin is excellent in moldability and mechanical strength.

Polymer and process for producing the same

A novel olefin polymerization catalyst is provided which comprises (A) a transition metal compound or lanthanoid compound containing two or more atoms selected from the group consisting of boron, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur, and selenium; and (B) a Lewis acid. A process for producing an olefin polymer is also provided. The catalyst has a high olefin polymerization activity without a combined use of an expensive organoaluminum oxy-compound or organoboron compound, and can maintain the high activity for a long polymerization time.
