An automobile interior member which is represented by an instrument panel and to which an air bag device is to be assembled, is constituted by a main body portion and an air bag cover portion, the main body portion and the air bag cover portion being formed in a manner so that the main body portion is primarily molded (injection-molded) out of first thermoplastic resin material, and the air bag cover portion is secondarily molded (injection-molded) so as to be lapped with the main body portion on the back surface side. The second thermoplastic resin is oriented in a direction along a tear line (edges of rotational lid portions) of the lid portions (door portions) in the air bag cover portion so that the air bag cover portion is secondarily molded.

A resilient surface sheet element 14 is vacuum molded from a resilient laminate sheet member 13 including a skin sheet 10 and a foam sheet 12. The resilient surface sheet element 14 is placed in a predetermined recess 16 of a female mold 15 for molding an instrument panel. After a first thermoplastic resin 18 is fed into a space between a male mold 17 and the resilient surface sheet element 14 placed in the female mold 15, the female mold 15 and the male mold 17 are closed tightly. The first thermoplastic resin 18 then flows through a first cavity section formed on a rear face of the resilient surface sheet element 14 to be integrated with the resilient surface sheet element 14. Before the first plastic resin 18 completely hardens in the first cavity section, a second thermoplastic resin 21 is injected from an injection gate 20 into a second cavity section adjacent to the first cavity section to securely fuse and join with the first thermoplastic resin 18.

Method of manufacturing resin member

A manufacturing method for an article having a foamed layer, comprising the steps of: retaining and fixing an adherent portion having a resin-made reinforcing layer and a foamed layer, the reinforcing layer having an integrally formed design surface; and vibration welding, with a low-frequency wave, the reinforcing layer and a base portion together so as to be integrally bonded while the base portion, formed of resin which can be welded to the reinforcing layer, is in contact with the reinforcing layer. Thus, it is possible to reduce the processes which require a great deal of man-hours, such as the applying and drying of an adhesive material, sewing and mechanically affixing. Consequently, an attractive article can be produced while reducing manufacturing man-hours and providing for automated manufacture.
