An optical prism that includes an interlock structure that precisely couples to a complementary structure of a refractive lens. For precision, the interlock structure may be formed at the same time and using the same technique as the optical surface of the prism. The interlock structure provides high accuracy when assembling a folded lens system by precisely aligning the object side optical surface of the lens with the image side optical surface of the prism so that the optical axis is centered in the lens. The prism may have refractive power. A portion of the object side surface may be coated with an opaque material to provide an aperture stop at that surface.

A lens assembly includes a stack of thermoplastic lenses that are aligned along a common optical axis and that are interleaved with metallic disks having an open central portion. Peripheral portions of each of the thermoplastic lenses adhere to the interleaved metallic disks to form a fused stack of lenses. A method of making the fused stack of lenses is disclosed and includes subjecting a set of interleaved lenses and metallic disks to an alternating current electromagnetic field that induces eddy currents in the metallic disks, causing heating that melts the adjacent lenses. The melted thermoplastic lens material adheres to adjacent metallic disks. The metallic disks reduce stray light from entering the lens stack, while permitting light to enter central portions of the lenses.

Various embodiments include an aperture stop for a camera with folded optics. In some examples, a folded optics arrangement of the camera may include one or more lens elements and one or more light path folding elements (e.g., a prism or a mirror). The aperture stop may be an elongated aperture stop. According to various examples, one or more prisms of the folded optics arrangement may have an elongated dimension in the same direction as an elongated dimension of the elongated aperture stop. In some embodiments, the aperture stop may be located between a prism and a lens group of the folded optics arrangement. In some embodiments, the aperture stop may be located proximate an optical element that optically powers a prism of the folded optics arrangement.

An optical power prism that may be used in folded lens systems that consists of a glass prism and a glass lens attached to a surface of the prism using a thin layer of optical glue or by optical contact. The glass lens does not have a flange and thus the prism can be smaller than prisms used in conventional power prisms with the same lens effective area, thus reducing the Z-height of the power prism when compared to conventional power prisms. An optical glass may be used for the lens that has a higher refractive index than can be provided by optical plastic which allows the lens to be thinner than plastic lenses. The lenses may be formed by molding a glass wafer to form lens shapes on a first surface of the wafer; the molded wafer is then ground from a second surface to singulate the lenses.

Power prism for folded lenses

Various embodiments disclosed herein include camera equipment having a refractive index layer that causes internal reflection close to an image sensor of the camera. In some examples, internal reflection may occur at a boundary formed with the refractive index layer and located between an image sensor and an upper surface of a lens of the camera. The boundary may be formed between the refractive index layer and another material located between the refractive index layer and the image sensor, wherein the refractive index layer has a lower index of refraction than other material between the refractive index layer and the image sensor. The boundary formed with the refractive index layer may cause light to be reflected back toward the image sensor to improve image quality of images captured by the image sensor.
