A rubber composition capable of improving all of processability, abrasion resistance, rolling resistance property and wet skid performance and a pneumatic tire using the same are provided. A rubber composition comprising 25 to 100 parts by weight of a surface-treated silica based on 100 parts by weight of a rubber component comprising a natural rubber and/or a diene synthetic rubber, the surface-treated silica being obtainable by mixing a silica and a sulfur-containing organic silicon compound represented by the general formula (1): or the general formula (2): in an amount of 1 to 20 parts by weight of the sulfur-containing organic silicon compound on the basis of 100 parts by weight of the silica under a temperature of 130&#xb0; to 180&#xb0; C.

Process for producing silica and sulfur containing rubber composition

A process for producing a rubber composition which includes mixing a silica and a sulfur-containing organic silicon compound represented by general formula (1): or the general formula (2): under a temperature of 130&#xb0; to 180&#xb0; C. to produce a surface-treated silica; and combining the surface-treated silica with a rubber component.

The present invention provides a rubber composition, in which reaction efficiency of the silane coupling agent in kneading is improved, generation of bubbles is suppressed, abrasion resistance is improved and rolling resistance is reduced. Specifically, the rubber composition comprises silica and 3 to 15 parts by weight of a silane coupling agent and 1.5 to 15 parts by weight of a potassium salt based on 100 parts by weight of the silica.

The rubber composition of the present invention comprises, based on 100 parts by weight of a diene rubber (A), 5 to 150 parts by weight of particular inorganic filler (B), 5 to 150 parts by weight of carbon black (C) having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 70 to 300 m/g, and 1 to 20 % by weight of a silane coupling agent (D). A rubber composition for tire treads which significantly improves the wet skid performance of the tire, which comprises (A) 100 parts by weight of a diene rubber containing at least 35% by weight of styrene-butadiene rubber, (B) 5 to 50 parts by weight of clay, (C) at least 5 parts by weight of silica having a nitrogen absorption specific surface area of 100 to 300 m/g and (D) at least 1 parts by weight of carbon black having a nitrogen absorption specific surface area of 70 to 300 m/g, wherein, the total amount of (B) clay and (C) silica is at least 30 parts by weight and a total amount of (B) clay, (C) silica and (D) carbon black is at most 100 parts by weight.

Specifically, the present invention provides a rubber composition for a tire tread comprising 5 to 150 parts by weight of silica having nitrogen-adsorbing specific surface area of 100 to 300 m/g and/or 5 to 150 parts by weight of carbon black having nitrogen-adsorbing specific surface area of at least 70 m/g and dibutyl phthalate oil absorption of at least 70 ml/100 g, based on 100 parts of a rubber component containing 5 to 100% by weight of a deproteinized natural rubber having a weight average molecular weight of 1,400,000 and nitrogen content of at most 0.1% by weight, and a pneumatic tire comprising the rubber composition for a tire tread.
