An image reading apparatus includes a transparent member including a document placing surface on which a document is placed, a document pressing portion that presses the document placed on the transparent member against the transparent member, a pivot supporting portion that pivotably supports the document pressing portion so as to be pivotable about a pivot shaft with respect to a casing of the image reading apparatus, an image reading unit, an abutment portion against which an edge portion of the document placed on the document placing surface is abutted in order to position the document at a reference position, and an inclined surface. The abutment portion is provided at one portion of a front end on a side far from the pivot supporting portion. The inclined surface is provided at another portion of the front end and inclined upward toward the side far from the pivot supporting portion.

An operation unit is provided on a front side of the image forming apparatus. A document feeding portion feeds a document supported by a document supporting portion in a document feeding direction from a front side of the image forming apparatus toward the rear side of the image forming apparatus. A document discharge portion discharges the document in a document discharge direction from the rear side toward the front side. The operation unit is disposed on one side with respect to an apparatus center of the image forming apparatus in a left-right direction orthogonal to a direction from the front side to the rear side. A conveyance center of the document feeding portion in the left-right direction is disposed on the other side with respect to the apparatus center in the left-right direction.

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a cover unit having a first guide, a base unit to support the cover unit in an openable and closable manner, and having a second guide, the first guide and the second guide forming a conveyance path in a state where the cover unit is closed with respect to the base unit, and a sheet feeding unit detachable from the cover unit. In addition, a cover member is supported by the cover unit to be pivotable between a closed position and covers at least a portion of the feeding unit and an open position where the portion of the feeding unit is exposed. The cover member moves from the closed position to the open position by being pressed by the holder while the feeding unit is detached from the cover unit.

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a sheet supporting tray to support a sheet, a sheet conveyance unit to convey the sheet supported on the sheet supporting tray, a first detection sensor to detect the supported sheet at a first detection position, and a second detection sensor to detect the supported sheet at a second detection position farther from a center of the sheet supporting tray in a sheet width direction than the first detection position. A document conveyance apparatus includes a feed roller, a first and a second conveyance rollers, a conveyance shaft, an arm portion rotatably moving the feed roller to a standby position to a feeding position, a transmission portion transmitting rotation of the conveyance roller shaft to the arm portion, and a torque limiter. The feed roller and the first conveyance roller rotate in a conveyance direction when the conveyance roller shaft rotates in a first direction, and the feed roller moves from a feeding position to a standby position when the conveyance roller shaft rotates in a second direction. When a document fed by the second conveyance roller moves through a nip portion, a transmission portion does not transmit rotation of the first conveyance roller rotated in the second direction by the separation roller to an arm portion by operation of the torque limiter.

An image reading device includes a reading unit having a reader to read an image on a sheet, a turning unit to turn with respect to the reading unit, a hinge to turn the turning unit, and a cable guide. The turning unit includes a communication device main unit, a connecting unit, and a connecting cable. The communication device main unit is detachably mounted within the turning unit and receives data from outside the image reading device by wireless communication. The connecting unit is provided in the turning unit and connected to a communication cable that is connected to the communication device main unit. The connecting cable connects between the connecting unit and a control unit provided to the reading unit. The cable guide is provided between the reading unit and the turning unit and guides the connecting cable to the control unit provided to the reading unit.

The drive transmission mechanism includes a shaft, a first rotary member supported on the shaft, a second rotary member supported on the shaft and connected to the conveyance roller, and a coupling member engaged with the first rotary member and rotated integrally with the first rotary member. The coupling member is movable along the shaft between a coupling position, at which the coupling member engages with the second rotary member such that it rotates integrally with the first rotary member, and a release position, at which the coupling member is separated from the second rotary member such that a relative rotation of the second rotary member with respect to the first rotary member is permitted.
