A clutch outer member () for a multi-plate clutch is provided that includes an end wall (), a large number of fins () extending axially from the outer peripheral part of the end wall () and arranged at equal intervals in the peripheral direction so as to define spline grooves (B) therebetween, and an annular connecting part () formed on the outer periphery at the extremity of this group of fins () and connecting the fins () integrally to each other, the fin () having an axially-extending weight-cutting bottomed groove () formed, wherein the annular connecting part () is provided, on a part of its outer end face corresponding to each of the spline grooves (B), with a reference notch () indicating the position of the spline groove (B), and spline teeth (A) of a friction plate () are fitted into the spline grooves (B) corresponding to the reference notches (). This enables differentiation between the weight-cutting bottomed groove and the spline groove of the clutch outer member to be carried out quickly and appropriately and an operation of fitting the spline teeth of the friction plate into the spline grooves to be carried out quickly.

Clutch outer member for multi-plate clutch

A power transmitting apparatus, which can simultaneously achieve radial size reduction and improve strength of the driving clutch plate, has a clutch housing () and a plurality of driving clutch plates () each having projections () projecting radially outward from the periphery of the driving clutch plate (). The projections () engages the clutch housing () to rotate with it. A clutch member () has a plurality of driven clutch plates () alternately arranged between the driving clutch plates (). A pressure plate () is provided to carry out the pressure-contact or release of the driving clutch plates () relative to the driven clutch plates (). Each of the driving clutch plates () has a peripheral surface (&#x3b2;), a projected wall surface (&#x3b1;), of the projections (), and a connecting surface (&#x3b3;). Each connecting surface (&#x3b3;) connects the projected wall surfaces (&#x3b1;) and the peripheral surface (&#x3b2;). Each of the connecting surfaces (&#x3b3;) is an arcuate surface smoothly merged into the projected wall surface (&#x3b1;) and forms an undercut, recessed radially inward, from the peripheral surface (&#x3b2;) of the driving clutch plate ().

Power transmitting apparatus

A dry multiple-disk clutch for transmitting power from the crankshaft of a motorcycle to a transmission input shaft and cutting off power transmission includes an outer clutch member interlocked with the crankshaft so as to be driven for rotation, a plurality of driving friction disks interlocked with the outer clutch member, a plurality of driven friction disks alternated with the driving friction disks and interlocked with the transmission input shaft, and a pressure member disposed opposite to the outer clutch member with the driving and the driven friction disks arranged alternately between the outer clutch member and the pressure member, and capable of moving in opposite axial direction to compress the driving and the driven friction disks together and to disengage the driven friction disks from the driving friction disks. Additionally, strap plates are disposed between a peripheral part of the outer clutch member and a peripheral part of the driving friction disks so as to be substantially tangent to the circumferences of the driving friction disks, and connect the respective peripheral parts of the outer clutch member and the driving friction disks to transmit the rotation of the outer clutch member to the driving friction disks.

Dry multiple-disk clutch

In a clutch in which an end wall of a clutch housing made of an iron and a retainer plate secured to the end wall are connected with a transmitting gear made of an iron and disposed between the end wall and the retainer plate for rotation relative to each other in the predetermined range of angle, damper springs and belleville springs for urging the transmitting gear toward the retainer plate are interposed between the end wall as well as the retainer plate and the transmitting gear, and a thrust washer is mounted to an outer surface of the end wall of the clutch housing for preventing the contact of the end wall and the belleville springs; detent bores are provided in the end wall of the clutch housing, and detent claws are formed on a thin thrust washer to be engaged into the detent bores. Thus, the relative rotation of the clutch housing and the thrust washer relative to each other is prevented, while providing a good assemblability of the clutch.
